4×4 Camaro

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

CarDomain member TheMaro82 commented that his 4×4 Camaro looks better than the weird Vette at the John Force Holiday Car Show, and man, he wasn’t kidding! He says it’s painted grabber green, but to me it looks closer to the 3M reflective paint used on the Malibu in Repo Man.

With all due respect: Try 14 years before that first muscle car mentioned ! Car historians state the 1950 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 as “the first muscle car”. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3109753

That thing belongs in the woods and not on the street! It would a lot of fun to take muddin but I wouldn’t be caught dead drivin’ it out on the road. I prefer to drive my ’99 Eclipse GS-T out on the streets.

take off the mudd diggers and put on sum 30″ rims or sum 28″s chrome and itll look 100% better but i like cuz we ride high like that where im from.

Dis donk be lookin coo but they need to ditch the 15″ wheels and jeep tires and add the Asanti 28″ spinners. Dat would make dis a show stoppu.

aaron
Dec 16, 2008 at 2:26 pm

I like the tires only. The car looks like “wack-amoli”.

Actually the GTO was the first official MUSCLE CAR. It came out in 1964…the first mustang was sold as 1964.5 So really GM made the muscle car…not ford

Its exactly what the Camero deserves. At least now I have somthing to hail trash off in!
I love it, but if it where a mustang I would have been pissed. But it is commen knowlage the mustang came first, and the camero is just another copy of a populer car class ford created, just like the El Cameno, and the new camero. I say we should jack all of them up.

thats awesome i saw an old monte carlo lifter and stuff like this, only it had 6 wheels…. i think it was just a dead axle in the middle of the other two, but still thats bad ass for real. id be scared of it if it pulled next to me in traffic.

You see, every hard work project is to be respect, no doubt, however, being an owner of an F-body myself, I kinda not agree to put a Camaro on a Blazer frame. The Camaro has a great history and it’s a legendary car, and never ignore the big world of enthusiasts it has, and am sure, they will not be happy to see this. Again, everybody has their opinion, and i do respect the hard work, ummm…you should have put a Mustang up there instead

yea I have to cut the fenders back almost 2 inches to make it even, and i still have another 4 inch lift im going to put on it here when spring comes, but ive had this car barried in mud and its crawled its way out every time

Dec 16, 2008 at 3:53 am

i think this is sweet! everything from the ridiculous hood to the paint color. it just screams badass. nice to hear you actually go muddin in it. i don’t see why everyone has to hate though… it clearly is a head turner plus as your friend said performs great… aren’t those two things the whole point of customizing a car? sure its an acquired taste lol i probably wouldn’t do that to a camaro either, but you obviously love it so who cares! one thing that bothers me is the front axle not lining up with the fender… if your planning on having it for a long time, it wouldn’t be too ridiculous of a mod to widen the fender to match the rim.. but w.e i guess. sick ride.

i like it, not the color i would have picked but i like it, its a guy in my town that did the basic same thing, put a camaro (same body style) body ona blazer frame, but the one here has a 4 inch lift on the frame i think and also has 40 in tires, it could go and do more than any truck around here, i’ve gone mudidn with it a couple times it was awesome, i saw the camaro her go through a hole that was all mud no water and the he left ruts prolly 3 foot deep and he didn’t get stuck, some of yall can talk all the shit yall want but that camaro can go through more shit than any truck you can find on here unless its military

I really dont care about the negative messages about my car, some people just need to grow up and realize that customizing cars is a passion, and that you should car about the customization going into the cars and the work thats gone into it, not on how it looks, i mean just because people dont like it doesnt make me mad, im happy with what i built and it really helped me and my dad bond together more.

Mark,

One of my favorite old sayings is, If you can’t dazzle’em with brilliance then baffle’em with bullshit. LOL.
-
Thanks for the kudos. I checked out your P/U too and it looks a lot better than some I owned. Between you and me, if only you knew of some of the crap I built when I was a youngster. But like you said, it was my crap. In the same breath, I must tell you that even though I may not have admitted it, if someone was to put it down it would have really hurt my feelings because no matter how bad it looked to someone else, it was all I had and yet I gave it everything I had. Furthermore, having been in this business for so many years, I can honestly tell you that a LOT of the finest and smartest mechanics we have today are those who got their experience from building such contraptions and some of the best in to come will be those who are doing the same today.

And here we go. The PC police all “wah wah he’s an individual, how would you feel blah blah” you sound like a 3rd grade teacher. I don’t like the guy’s car and I voiced my opinion. I didn’t write a scathing 9 paragraph review picking it apart and making fun of the guy in the process. He really doesn’t give a fuck if I like his car, because he does like it and thats what matters.

As for my car, its a black 93 Dodge Dakota 3.9 5spd 2wd. It’s on cardomain, the pictures of it on here are in stock form though so why waste time linking it? If you feel compelled to laugh at my truck then go for it bud, because I really don’t give a fuck, its reliable as hell and I own it outright.

Mark,

Yes it’s America all right and yes you’re entitled to your opinion. But then again, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. The difference is most people who have opinions are decent enough to keep them to themselves if it means being disrespectful to others in a venue such as this one. I see you haven’t posted a car. Why don’t you post yours or are you afraid you might have your feelings hurt because of comments posted by some other flake?

What would you like to say to a guy who had a childhood dream, then worked with his father to make it a reality? The truth is I would like to hear what you have to say.

$traight aka TheMaro82
Dec 14, 2008 at 9:33 pm

Hey guys thanks for the comments, good and bad ones lol any thing helps, i wanted to build this when i was 13, i made a model car just like this, and finally after 5 yrs of hard work it payed off and it couldnt of came out better. Its a 1979 camaro on a 1979 blazer frame, it has 3:73 possi front and back and a 383 pushing about 475 hp that me and my dad hand built. All the work was done by me and my dad as our father and son project. Hope you guys like it.

Mark
Dec 14, 2008 at 8:29 pm

We have some guys on here saying my and other negative opinions on this guy’s ride is wrong? Funny, I thought this was America and we were allowed to form our own opinions…

Keith
Dec 14, 2008 at 5:51 pm

No, it’s not blasphemy, it’s cool. What I don’t see a point is when people lower trucks and put big wheels with low profile tires on them. When I asked what the point was, the kid said because it was cool, and you still had the 4WD for when it snowed. I just laughed.

Umai Kakudo
Dec 14, 2008 at 7:28 am

He!! Yeah!

I do believe this car would kick your @$$ if you tried to mount it without a Mullet. Let’s go Mudd’n!

Fergy
Dec 14, 2008 at 6:41 am

I certainly wouldn’t drive it, but for what it is… it doesn’t look half bad. Looks like he put a bunch of work into it and didn’t just throw stuff together. As long as it’s not half-assed… then I approve.

GTwildfire
Dec 14, 2008 at 4:24 am

I think it turned out good. It’s not something I would do but the work and finished result looks like it was done right. I bet it has decent weight distribution for a 4×4. Looks like it has good clearance. Probably would be fun to take it offroad or my favorite… snow.

Gary Faules
Dec 14, 2008 at 12:41 am

Sweet Jesus! You guys and your talk of blasphemy and not getting it. I bet your grand fathers would turn over in their graves if they about half of what you did to your rides. What in the hell do you guys think hot-rodding is all about. Everyone has his or her own vision of what they expect as they try to make their wheels an expression of themselves. Looks to me like this guy put a lot of work into his ride and just because YOU don’t like it doesn’t mean the entire world should. Next time before you make a comment try and imagine how you would feel if people began putting your ride down and all this after they took the time to post it on CarDomain. To each his own and if there is something you don’t like move on to something that does but thee’s no need to put down someone’s ride. In the mean time just try to remember, we’re all car guys and gals and while we may not all be equal in what we like or can afford we still owe it to each other to have some respect for what it is we all have in common… our wheels.

How do you make 4×4 cars?
Do you just take the body onto a trucks suspension/chassis?
Or do you just lift it high and adjust it?

Mark
Dec 13, 2008 at 8:32 pm

No offense to the guy’s hard work or anything but this, or any other car converted to 4 wheel drive is just pure blasphemy.
