Ford Fusion Hybrid vs. Toyota Camry Hybrid: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Last week the guys at Jalopnik posted some truly impressive mileage numbers with the new Ford Fusion hybrid. They admitted the next day that they were doing some serious hypermilingwith the thing. Still, the Fusion hybrid is looking like it might be fairly serious competition for the Camry hybrid. Both are priced right around $27k. So, which would you choose?

I find it funny that the Camry pretty won won outright on everything, but still wanted to make the fusion win. I think both these cars are winners, I like how long they went with it (I think it was because they were trying to make a case for the fusion) I really don’t think they had to be becayse the Fusion does hold its own against the camry and did beat the camry in some areas. IN MY OPIONION though the camry is still the better pick here. With that said I still think both cars are winner, and the import fans and dom fans should just chill, we all know you will only buy for you home team. Damn I talk alot sometimes. buck, no one cares! camrys are ugly and generic. they are made for women who dont like cars or driving. they are made for women who want basic transportation.

Toyota expects to lose money on an operating basis of 150 billion yen ($1.66 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 2009. Toyota has never reported an operating loss since it began giving such figures in 1941. The only such loss it has had is an internal calculation for the year ending March 1938, a year after the company was founded.
Operating income reflects a company’s core business performance. Last fiscal year, Toyota had a whopping operating profit of 2.27 trillion yen.
Toyota also lowered the number of vehicles it expects to sell globally this calendar year to 8.96 million, down 4 percent from a year ago. Earlier this year, Toyota had expected to sell 9.5 million vehicles around the world in 2008.

Ford’s blow, I had a 1998 Explorer with less then 100k miles on it and it was in the shop at least once a month. My girlfriend has a 1994 Celica with over 160K and has never seen a shop once, I do the oil changes myself and that is all it needs. Besides “American” cars are not even American anymore, more and more of them are made in Mexico and Canada, or more more of their parts are made in Mexico or Canada. So if I am going to spend money on something that is foreign anyway I am going to but the car that was built better from Japan!

johnny we see how smart you are its camry not camery
Johnny
Dec 21, 2008 at 2:42 am
I’d have to say the Camery on this one. Toyota just makes better “everyday use” cars. They cut fuel and maintenance costs compared to a fusion. However the fusion is better for their AWD ability. So in the end it really comes down to what is more important to the owner. With my experience I am sticking with Toyota on this one.

toyota tundras are all recalled for engine problems. toyota will never touch ford in full size trucks. toyota needs to stick with what they know best and thats little tiny fag cars.

wow, whats with all the tension in this BLOG?
we are all grown up so lets no resort to this childish talk and acts.
first let me clearify that Ford .. Chevy .. Chrysler .. Dodge .. all there cars are nearly 50% under MSRP as of the moment and past few months. i think that explains it all dont it? if you made a quality product you wouldn’t lower the PRICE TAG a pretty PENNY say the less.
the only reason they do such a dramatic decrease in value is because there cars arn’t on PAR with Honda/Toyota/BMW.
have you ever heard a commerical about a honda toyota or BMW dealership giving 5000$ cash back or incentives? …the answer is no
they know they made quality vehicles in return they dont need to make these BOGUS deal, people are gona buy quality regardless.
unless your those few who are on a budget.. (cough* cough*) buys cheap domestics that goes no wonder and breaks down on a regular basis its sad but you poor FORD owners need to get your priority straight. you just bought a piece of crap and droved it home without smellin the STENCH.. what is wrong with your nose and brain?
back to topic.. you want a car that would be the Toyota Camry
you enjoy riding the bus.. you’d probably want a Ford Fusion
……only you can make the smart / dumb choice….. humor me*
Lauren S.
Dec 20, 2008 at 1:29 pm
owned a ford mustang through out my college years… and i gota say it isn’t very rewarding owning this darn automobile, unreliable .. horrible MPG .. interior looks like it was made at a dollar store.
would not even consider buying a FORD ever again, all there vehicles are poor in quality. (maybe thats why there so dirt cheap)
quality over quantity*

Aight peeps you all need to chill out, and find something else to preoccupy your time with. This is simple the original poster asks your opinion on the 2 cars, and everyone replies, not forcing thier point of view onto others. Cmon we can all act like reasonable adults and not degrade and disrespect other peoples opinions.

you damn right drey! i hered ford is going for a government bailout! buying other foreign car companys technology trying to make there vehicles better! like “mozda” and others. ford has used foeign engins in a number of there cars! if ford is so great then why are thay buying out these foreign auto makers? its because thay cant keep there heads above the water, and thay are sinking fast, its only a matter of time before ford hits rock bottom!!

idk if some of you guys knew this, but if you play your cards right with a hybrid, you can get MORE horsepower. unfortunatly, nobody wants to us a hybrid in that manner. but being an American i wanna support domestic, and i also think the AWD is a nice feature. and i pretty much looks way cooler than the toyota… as far as hybrids go anyway

Fusion. I’m not really into Fords, and Hybrids are just a hold-over but 43MPG without the shittiness of a Geo or a Prius sounds like a deal.
Ford is finally on par with any other automaker, as is GM, so fuck you to the 7 year old with the rustbucket Mazda…

Ya one of the previous posts are right, the pic is of a camry SE with a nice lip kit and so on. I would look at the ford fusion hybrid in person, cause i know the camry isnt that amazing lol its made for gas milage not looks or performance. Only thing that would make me choose one over the other is the warranty, and really quality. I still havent heard how much hybrids cost to maintain if anything does ever break, and it will, how much would it cost? The more electronics there are in the car, the more stuff goes wrong, and the more expensive it becomes to fix. So my choice would either or, i think both cars look nice, but it would come down to what i like when i would see it in person.

Well the Camry Hybrid doesnt Look like that 1st off, thats the Camry SE, hybrids don’t come with the body kit, it’d be awsome if they did, But in all seriousness i would have to compare which one has the best specs on paper but thats usually nothing in the real world drivng. But the new Fusion looks very nice indeed, the camry hybrid doesnt look all that great really, it takes more than LED tail Lights to win me over in looks. but a camry doesn’t look half bad at all, the fusion has my vote on looks though

well first of all id like to say my passat diesel would be my first choice at 45 mpg and better power than both of these but if i had to choose id go ford fusion for a couple reasons. first, the looks…thats half the game. second its design and craftmanship seem alot better with better mpg and power but Ford has lied to us so many times and made cheap cars in mexico to get as much profit as possible sooooo many times…..on second thought…..the camry. just to spite em!
