The Cars at the Callaway Open House

By Jim Brennan

aka UDMan

Over the past several days, I have written a few posts about the Callaway Cars open house that was held at their Old Lyme, CT headquarters in October. While I tried to focus on all of the unique vehicles at this gathering, there was not enough time (or daylight) to interview everyone, as well as photograph all of the breathtaking machinery gathered.

This post illustrates some of the other unique machines that were displayed, including cars that are owned by the company, vehicles about to be delivered to new owners, and others owned by folks that I never was able to track down. Think of this as a historic tour of the event. If you want to know more about the company, go to Callawaycars.com. And I have a bunch more Callaway cars after the jump!

The first car is a Callaway C6 Supernatural with a normally aspirated LT-1 2 valve 450 HP Callaway-developed engine. These cars were built between 1992, and 1996. The wheels were co-developed by Callaway and BF Goodrich.

This next car is also a Callaway C6, only this one is sporting the Special LeMans GT Nose, and a 490 HP Callaway engineered LT-1. This gives the car a unique appearance.

The next vehicle is the Callaway C7 Competition. It is a lightweight, ultra high performance, ground effects sports car, sporting 650 horsepower, and it debuted at the 1997 Rolex 24 hours at Daytona. This machine was co-driven by ex F1 Italian Driver Enrico Bertaggia, US SCCA turned NASCAR driver Boris Said III, Canadian Ron Fellows, and Johnny Unser. It is a piece of racing history, but one that had more DNF’s than victories.

The next featured vehicles are the current production Callaway C16 models. The Coupe starts at just over $170,000, but includes a 650 HP Supercharged V-8, A Callaway/Eibach suspension package, The Callaway LeMans Braking package, Dymag magnesium/carbon fiber wheel package, and a custom appointed German leather interior, complete with wool carpets. Of course there are options, including carbon ceramic braking package, competition shell sport seats, a 700 HP engine upgrade (for only a shade under $70,000), and a custom fit 5 piece luggage set.  The convertible starts at just under $180,000.

The orange coupe is the Callaway Corvette, and it could be considered a performance bargain. For only $18,900 over the cost of a standard Corvette coupe or convertible, you receive a 580 HP, 6.2L supercharged V-8, which includes an intercooler, high rate fuel injectors, high flow intake, a redesigned, polished stainless steel exhaust system, unique hood, sill plates, identification badges, and a full warranty. The current cost of a base Corvette coupe is around $50,000, and when you add this package, you have the performance that is close to the ZR-1, for under $70,000.

The final car is the stunning Callaway Speedster. This car debuted at the Pebble Beach Concours earlier this year.  The first Image is from the Callaway website, but I included some images of the interior, and yes, those are helmets integrated into the tonneau cover. The Speedster retails for over $300,000, and includes the 700 HP engine, carbon ceramic brakes, and sport seats.

I remember I wanted a Callaway C6 Sledgehammer Speedster as a kid. Man, that C7 has one CRAZY Carbon Fibre interior.
