NorthWest Auto Salon Shows Off Their New Snow Foam Gun

By Ryan Porter

I don’t know about you guys but I’m obsessive when it comes to keeping my cars clean. So when it comes to detailing and auto care I’m always trying new product and equipment.  Needless to say, when I saw that Blake from NorthWest Auto Salon had a new toy I decided to get out of the office and check it out.

I first saw Blake showing it off in the AudiWorld Forums on a Touareg detail. The way I understand it is that the snow foam can be applied as the pre-soak after a thorough rinsing.  The key here is that the snow foam is designed to separate the dirt from the paint and to allow gravity to pull the resulting foam of the car. Looking around I don’t see a whole lot of companies using this tool, but I am reading some pretty great reviews about it and Blake tells me that he is working with some product designers on the best mixture for the cleaning agent. So check this thing out. More pics after the jump!

Ok,So i just when through the provided truck wash at the city dumps that was the muddiest water I’ve ever seen with some serious volume. Now that the mud’s off the tires real good, the whole truck looks like dirt city again.I sure could use that wash stuff to wash the truck.Nice product development work for your biz there!

We should spray that stuff directly on fish, animals, tree huggers, etc., and watch the results.

So you’re using snow to clean off grime created by…snow? Seems counter intuitive if you ask me. ;)

All products that we use are biodegradable and environmentally friendly as well as our drain goes into the sewer and coincidentally also has a oil/water separator in it. All is well in the universe. Although we are working on getting a water reclamation system just for mobiles as well as to collect and show customers the dirt that was pulled off their vehicles during wash processes as well as undercarriage cleanings :-D

is this environmentally friendly? is this stuff gonna kill fish and what not when it washes into sewers and etc…

Just a comment from Blake here at NWAS, This is a method used as a presoak only prior to our handwashing to remove built up grime and to lubricate the dirt and use gravity to pull the first layer off of really dirty cars here in the winter time. Youd be surprised how clean the car is after foaming and rinsing, but thats still just our first step to ensure mitt contimantion doesnt happen during the wash process furthering scratches into the paints surface. Hope that helps!

hey nice. coincidentally, the best soap scum remover has the foam and gravity too..the same chemistries do better as foam.we don’t have that around here, but the kerosene powered car shaking flame throwing steam cleaner does just fine in the driveway for now. In fact my area is deprived. the local engine cleaner is antifreeze green and does nothing whatsoever. No wonder the classics are dead and buried.

I think if the gun were fashioned after the Ghost Busters’ ones and it were slime instead of foam…

A car wash near me has a similar feature, and I love it! I like to bring my own bucket, soap, and wax, but the foam gun makes a great pre-clean option. I have never liked the evil foam brush, and I’m glad a company has realized that most car people don’t like to scratch the paint every wash!

GTwildfire: Check out the link to the Touareg write up and look specifically at the suds pulling the dirt off the car. I would say that its a solid method for removal of dirt in the pre-soak. Beats the extra work of rinsing the mitt after every 2-feet of first wash.

a downside… unlike a rinse, apparently a lot of the product dosen’t make it onto the car. Seems linda gimicky to me, having doubts that it will outperform what’s on the market currently.

Is there any big difference to regular washes? or is it just a different way to wash it so you don’t scratch the paint?
