What Do You Want Me To Tell Ford?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I’m going out to Detroit this weekend to attend the NAIAS press days Sunday through Tuesday. I’m also gonna be hanging out with some Ford folks. I know we have a lot of Ford faithful here, so I thought I’d ask you guys what I should say to them. Here’s what I was thinking:

1. Thanks for keeping the Mustang alive all these years. It’s an awesome car. And we all know that if wasn’t for the Mustang, we wouldn’t have the Challenger or Camaro.
2. Congrats on the awesome mileage figures for the Fusion Hyrbid.
3. The Ranger needs some love. Like, yesterday. Seriously, don’t let the Ranger die!
4. Why the hell haven’t you built the new Bronco yet?

Anything else I should tell them? Anything you want me to ask?

Wow, I think it is ridiculous how you guys all attack each others’ opinions. If they say something stupid, other people will read it and realize the obvious if they did. And Davis083, I am sure I know more about cars than you do. I realize you didn’t post anything, so how about you jump back into your redneck truck and get out of here. All you guys need to stop acting stupid on here. It is an opinion line. If you don’t like someone else’s opinion that is fine. But stop attacking other people. It is rude and immature, and makes the rest of us think that there are a bunch of immature kindergardners on here. I am sick of all the immature men on here. You all make me sick.

hey jesus-lover, next time read the main article of the blog, then youll see why im so worked up. people are retarded to the point it overwhelms them. im pissed off cause cardomain is so dumb they think the mustang was the starting ground of the muscle car movement. and i do NOT want ford to be around anymore, why you ask? their also stupid. they will spend over 5million dollars on research an building a prototype of a airstream VAN that nobody ever wanted. not to mention hundreds of other worthless crap. ford is a disgrace, and should not be helped. why not go talk to GM or Dodge? someone worthy of talking to and helping out of the slump.

Jan 9, 2009 at 7:55 am

reading all these comments makes me lol. everyones getting all worked up over a car to the point where they get into arguments about vettes and mustangs. This is a blog about the bronco not vettes, mustangs, or the focus in europe. everyone needs to quit the hatin and trashtalking about a subject that has nothing to do with the blog. and no they should not build the bronco unless they make it get good mileage or else noone would buy it. these days its not all about V8s and who has the biggest engine people. if you want power dont buy a SUV and buy a sportscar.

Jan 9, 2009 at 6:06 am

I’d ask why they produce the Better Ford Focus RS in Europe with a turbo and not in the USA. And even the Focus ST, great looking car, great performance and great gas mileage, best of all the Focuses produced. I would kill for either the Turbo’d RS hatch or even the Rocking Orange ST they make over there.

Jan 8, 2009 at 8:54 pm

Looks like you got some quick responces. Well i would suggest that you ask them why the company is losing so much money. I think that Bronco is a fantastic idea..but what happened to the Interceptor..? If you think its a good idea, suggest that they concider possibly reorganizing the managment system if needed. Make the company more productive. And there is now reason why the heads of the company (i.e CEO’s ect.) cant put some of there pay back into the company to nudge things along. There is no reason for one single person to make more then 5 or 6 million dollars. so the 15+ million that those guys make could very well be the money that saves the company. throw that idea out there. because those guys up top dont work for Ford. Ford works for them. Its their company, i dont see any lidgitimate reason for them not to invest in the company that in all essence belongs to them. i could be wrong about how much money they are making, and i could be wrong all together about this situation..but i am a loyal american car enthusiast and return customer. lets pride ourselves in making things for ourselves! they would also save loads of money if they didnt out source so much. making their cars out of the country isn’t nessisarily a good idea… you do what you gotta do, but you need to save money in the process. i’m excited your going to talk to some big wigs this probably as close as i will ever get to talking to them myself. good luck!

I dont think you read my post all the way, i agree with you! the guy i quoted was saying the vette was what started the muscle car era. it wasnt it the same category! vette was a sports car! the pony car is a car that could do it all! so i am well imformed. but thank you and credit for you!

Tell them to bring the Ford Focus design from Europe to North America, because I hear that the one’s in Europe have 1.5L Turbo and we don’t and would enjoy seeing the real Ford Focus instead of the cheap ass one`s we got here if what I hear is true about the Focus in Euorpe.

Patrick
Jan 8, 2009 at 6:22 pm

I think ford could really take off with the bronco if they do it right. They could give it some solid engine options like the 4.0L and 4.6L mabey even a diesel, and price it close to 10.000 i think it would really sell.

retroman
Jan 8, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Hey Micheal, some cars are called pony cars for a reason called the Mustang. Yes I do agree that the Vette was the first American sports car, but the Mustang is America’s first fun car, a vehicle intended for penniless hotrodders and can not only grab groceries every day but lay down rubber as well and look good doing it. It’s the best selling muscle car of all time, having been in production nonstop for 45 years, and has had Carrol Shelby’s blessing, twice!!! Even the Corvette took a holiday in 1983. All the other muscle cars that came out in the ’60s to near present have all vanished and some are now just coming back. So man, before you criticize others for not doing thier homework, it would do you good to do yours. And one more thing, yes, it is true the GTO went on sale 2 weeks before the Mustang, but GM only did that because of the Mustang. The poor Goat sold well, but got a little swallowed up by Mustang mania anyway.

You are also an idiot!!!! Ford dropped the pushrod engine in 1995!!! now i will agree japs and germans are ahead of us in technology! and Ford doesnt use the 5.7!! its a 5.4 Triton! chevy uses the pushrod and 5.7(pusrod). Please people dont post if your an idiot

Yeah, tell Ford to stop copying other companies ESPECIALLY imports! That bronco looks just like an FJ cruiser and the Flex looks like the Scion! Also I LOVE Mustangs more than anything. Tell them that if they don’t up the hp on the 2010 Stangs, they won’t be able to compete with the Camaro or Challenger. The GT stock should be at least 450 hp by now. I think everyone agrees. And since we have V6 imports putting out 300 hp the V6 should be making at least 300 as well. Also, the rear end on the 2010 Mustang is downright hideous!!! WTF is with the taillights curving up? Their styling is going out the window and Ford’s styling is all that they have. Chevrolet makes the bigger engines, we all know that. Tell Ford to stop copying other companies and do what they do best. Build beautiful and tasteful cars and trucks.

Fact is, they should have came out with the Bronco a long time ago! They came up with this concept before Toyota even thought of reviving the FJ. Now that the FJ is out, and pretty popular, Ford bringing back this historic Ford vehicle would only help the company move in the right direction. They can’t expect the Mustang alone to revive the company, you need a little bit of everything. And about the Ranger, they really need to make a crew-cab already! There’s crew-cab Ranger’s in Costa Rica and latin American, but none in the country it’s made?!? Come on Ford, and redo that interior, unchanged since what, 1996? And one more thing, that new 2009 Ford Focus RS better makes its way to the states. How do you attract new buyers, bring an Evo/Sti/MS3 rival to the table from an American automaker. Oh ya, that’ll turn some heads!!!

Don
Jan 8, 2009 at 7:26 am

Tell them please not to stop with the Bronco! (It looks Awsome…)
Tell them there’s a great deal of us that would like to see the Galaxie’s, Falcon’s, and Fairlane’s back on the street! This retro-reux thing is awsome!

But while you’re there….Ask them how much of the Bailout money the’re using to pull the Bronco off?

But seriously….I had a 65 Galaxie…I would love to see a modern retro take on that model….

By the way….Haters to Fords in general…Shut up….the “My-Car-Is-Better-Than-Yours” thing is stupid and dated! Get a life or get a bicycle…

Carsond
Jan 8, 2009 at 6:33 am

I cant get over the fact that they put a V-8 in a TAURUS before they put one in the Ranger. All I want is a small V-8. Is that too much? Somthing more torquey and sounds good. But considering that the base 3.0 V-6 avaliable in Rangers has only 20 less horsepower than the 4.3 V-6 avaliable in only extended cab S-10s, and the 4.0 in larger Rangers can eat any S-10 for breakfast. And why does everyone hate this bronco? its no more bold and ugly than the new silverados.

Mike
Jan 8, 2009 at 12:26 am

Awhile back when Ford introduced us to the Interceptor Concept, they showed a small logo on it’s license plate that read “MUSCLE” with the U red, and the S blue (standing for American Muscle). I think pushing that as a marketing campaign would work very well, and why wouldn’t they consider that? They’re achieving great things in the name of gas mileage while staying true to American power, so they couldn’t get ridiculed for it. Plus, Chevy did a similar thing with the “this is our country…” songs on their commercials….just a thought.

B) Also, tell them they need to pull more power out of their 5.4L 3V Tritons. GM’s smaller displacement motor 5.3L pushes more power.

C) And tell them they need to bring the Focus RS here, I’m sure it will be tough competition for the Evo X and STI Imprezza.

Jan 7, 2009 at 3:47 pm

Definitely ask about the Bronco and to give the the Ranger some love. But also give the Panther chassis (Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Town Car) some love too.

Or, what ever happened to the Interceptor? If they don’t want the Panther chassis, then go with the Interceptor but make it a tough as nails body on frame like the Crown Vic so Ford can still dominate the police car market.

Make a Continental, like the concept back in 2002, that would rival the Mercedes S-class in luxury. Also a Mercury Cougar based on the Mustang and a Marauder would be nice too

Mopar Mike
Jan 7, 2009 at 3:43 pm

If I were you, I’d ask them why they aren’t doing the equivalent of the Holden Commodore/Pontiac G8 thing with our Aussie Ford Falcon. Falcon is generally recognised over here (correct me if I’m wrong) as a better car than the Commodore. Given the amount of gushing I read in the US press about the G8, you are seriously missing out on a spectactular vehicle in the Falcon.

I drove one the other day, and, all I can say is “whoa!”

4.0 litre straight six; 362hp; 533Nm; 0-100kmh in 5.6 seconds; and launch control! All this from a car that the dealer wanted to sell me for US$33,571 drive away!! I’m a Holden (GM) guy but damn, this is one awesome car…

Ask em if they can send more of their Euro. models to the US. We could use a change of face.

Tell them to build that Bronco. If the roof (and maybe doors) could come off they could steal some sales from the Wrangler.

Please ask them about the Ranger. I mean look at the numbers on CarDomain….Ford Ranger (8,733)….this is how man people have posted their rangers just on here. i cant go from my house to work without seeing at least ten of them. it must say something that has had the SAME platform and look (for the most part) for 15 years do so well as it has to the point you see them everywhere. basically, they just need to kepp it the SAME, however, add options such as power seats, SYNC, progamable door locks, etc…all the bell and whistles you can find on an f-150. Why not, other mid size trucks do…i guarentee they would sell even more with just a few more features…..hell bring the quad cab they offer in Brazil up here, and their numbers will go through the roof! also, y not have the option of the three liter diesel they have in brazil also!!!The Ranger is awesome!!!!

The Euro Focus couldn’t get here soon enough, and the Euro Fiesta is also on it’s way, but why not bring over the Euro Ka? How about a version of the Mondeo? And is there any reason why they can’t get rid of the Panther Platform, and bring in a version of the Interceptor that was circulating the car shows a few years ago?

not that they listen to anybody…My elder grandma was 40 years in ford (rumored almost half a million dollars spent on regular cars), I witnessed from 76 ltd with a 460, to a tiny fwd wagon in 2004 before she passed- and that was only in my grandson proportionate years to witness. The car rode like a “buckboard” as a mainer would say,in her retirement years with emphysema, and she passed with 15000 dollars more to pay on it. She taught me alot just by existing. Your compoany sucks and *punch* . then they hauled me off into the truth jail…they can’t imprison it.Opyimistically. That bronco pic is awesome.Would love to see a ’68 bronco 2 type buggy today.

The bronco needs to be brought back. Period. here’s one other question for you to ask:

In the current times, with such a financial crisis, why keep spending money on making boring cars here, ones that wont sell great, when you could import some of the awesome, exciting cars that you already sell in Europe and Australia?

god yes, build the bronco…the manufactors have the rights to these old name plates and iconic as they are, some things demand to be re-born. they could lose the explorer and build this instead.it almost harkens to the ford flex in designs and wouldn’t be a bad trade off

I would like to know of any plans concerning the Bronco concept! Also, I would be trying to secure some test time with the Euro Focus as soon as it hits our shores.
