2010 Taurus is Hot

My favorite detail of the new Taurus is the logo font—it’s totally retro and a throwback to the days when the Taurus was the hottest thing on the road. The new Taurus seriously impressed Rob and me, and it’s going to be very competitive. It’s based on the MKS platform and shares the basic profile, but the shared components pretty much stop at the floor pan. The interior has great detailing, with piped panels in the door cards and this wave motif that carries through all the way to the bottoms of the cupholders. The exterior has plenty of visual interest that flows into the cabin over the dashboard. Hedonistic! The Sync system will include the non-subscription text-based GPS, navi, and crash locating system that Ford has developed for people who don’t want to pay every month. The suspension will be sportier than the MKS (thank heaven!). Ford is going back to its roots with this version—the right place to go, IMO. Thanks to Matt and Mike for the killer video. Tons of pics after the jump!

I’d like to see what the guys at Ford SVT will do with it.

Personally, I love Ford. I own an F150 and it’s an awesome truck. I believe they make great cars and trucks, and I hope this will be a common sight on the roads soon, except it looks kind of like a Chrystler 300c. Since SRT is modifying full-sized sports cars, Mercedes has the S63AMG and S65AMG, BMW has the M5, maybe Ford will do something sporty with this one? Maybe AWD? 5.4L motor?

I don’t care if the Taurus was the best selling US car in the 80′s. It still looked like a pile of poop on 4 wheels..much like everything else that was non-Camaro or Chev Pickup from that decade.

By the way, I actually like the new design. That would be a first for me saying that about the Taurus. I hope they follow through with the SHO too. I look forward to seeing one.

My friends and I just called the old ones the “Taurtus”. If you ask me, aside from the digital gauge cluster in the 1st gen, and the SHO, the Taurus was a very boring car. I give it credit for reliabity and sales though.

Finally FORD comes to its senses, but they still fucked up the back end.

Anyway, the new design looks good…

btw: My mechanic informed me that the tie rods were bad, he replaced them more often on those rides that most other cars.

I once owned an ’86 taurus and a ’90 sable… both at the same time.
-
Their tie rods were weak, even dangerous. I realized this when one broke on my Sable (nicknamed “diSable”) just after getting off of I-95. If that tie rod broke 60 seconds earlier I might not have been typing this.

I trust Ford Motor Company builds better Tauruses and Sables now. It’s been (I can’t believe its been freaking) 20 years +/- since those cars were current.

Wagon version maybe?

I was highly impressed by this car too. While shooting photos and doing Video clips for the little movie above, I started to like many aspects of Fords new ride. And for the record, I mostly cover only European brands and models!

Wow. No way that’s a Taurus. No way it’s a FORD!

Scoob, you must have missed the 80s. The original Taurus was a force to be reckoned with, and for a long time was the best-selling car in the US. Ford threw pretty much everything they had at it back then.

Oldscoob, First off the Taurus is a very great car ( I have one it works perfectly fine), second you made absolutely no sense, and third learn how to spell before you try and cut something down.

the taurus was the hottest thing on the road? I do remeber a coworker who braggged of 200k. It stnk and made peaople dizzy, and the sube 15 years oilder and twice as many miles still passed it with 3 times the 4wd fuel mileage..not to bust a bubble like an egr valve…the taurus sucks like the rest of the failing industry fantasy.

I like it a lot it has a little euro Ford design and the front grill looks a little like a GEN 4 Taurus, the tail lights also lokk a little like the Interceptor Concept, I can’t wait for the performance one (SHO) that comes in February!
