V8 Vantage vs. R8: Which Would You Choose?

Let’s say you have $120,000 burning a hole in your pocket, and you want a classy sports car. Two options that come to mind are the V8 Vantage and the R8. The Aston Martin has the motor up front while the Audi is mid-engined, but both cars have V8s that put out 420 hp, and they both weigh in right around 3,600 pounds. So, which would you choose?

The Audi copy the LEDs from vantage the r8 is mid engine ,the vantage is front-mid engine , the vantage exhaust is louder and the car is hand built , the vantage is more understated it doesn’t beg for attention , the vantage smells better ( leather) on and on and on…. Hahaha
can you tell I own one???

R8 anyday, its AWD, is completely tame at 7000rpm and its just plain sexy. And International… youd choose a caddy over these to? stupid move… i got two words for you… actually ill make it letters… GM… enough said.

R8! the R8 its better because the martin can easily be mistaken for another vehicle but the R8’s design is unique and cant be mistaken or miss!

R8 all the way, wouldn’t even look at the Aston if the two were right next to each other. The r8 does out drive it and gets more looks for sure. If I had to have the style of the Aston I’d get a new jag and customize it with the money I saved

The Audi has more exclusivity than the V8 Vantage since there’s a two year waiting list to get one. The R8 would also have impeccable handling since it is mid-engined and AWD. So I’m going with the Audi this time, I agree with xprezzzo the DBS would be a completely different game.

They both have an undeniable presence, sex appeal, loads of power and great handling, but the Aston just speaks to me in a way that the Audi doesn’t.

People wouldn’t motice the Vantage as much as the R8 simply because the R8 is low and wide with the engine showing in the back which people like to look at. I see vantages here all the time which means that too many people own them. I live in a place where no exotic cars exist and seeing a R8 here would definetly be cool.

Call me a heretic, but i think the Vantage looks a little uninspired. Plus, the whole mid/rear engine deal in the R8 is pretty cool.

I think of most german cars as awesome engineering and precision while I believe british cars have a heart (often a failing heart indeed). I’d take the Vantage for the luxury and exclusivity over the coldness of the R8

To what Yonder said below, James Bond did in fact drive a V8 Vantage in the movie The Living Daylights. It started out as a Volante, but it was later converted to a hardtop. Aston Martin all the way.

I cannot decide. The R8 is probably the winner because it is better for track toy purposes, but the Vantage is just || that much more of a head-turner.

well turbo fanatic is an idiot, the R8 is AWD, so the engine placement is more something to do with handling balance compared to weighing the rear axle down…
back on topic though…
i do love that audi, even more with the V10 version (how long until they release the V12 TDI??) it’s got some sweet lines and has a very “techy” flavour to it… and after taking it for a test drive around melbourne in nov last year it’s a really fun drive, tonnes of torque and such a nice sound!!
i haven’t had the chance to take an aston for a test drive yet, but it’s a classic shape and who doesn’t want to have a “bond car” i’ve always liked astons
being such a hard choice i’d have to take both… yes a good compromise

any real SPORTS CAR!! has an engine in the back to hold down the wheels in the back,dumb shit…
when u got too much weight in the front,(engine) of course u dont got the traction to hold it down on the road,shiiittt..
id pick the R8 anyday of the week!! no competition…

Engines belong in the front, powering the rear wheels. The R8 is fugly and those ridiculous leds in the headlights just make it more so. Give me the Vantage any time.

James Bond didn’t drive the Vantage. He drove the DBS which is the modified DB9. The DB9 comes standard with a V12 while the Vantage has some V8 derived from a Jaguar.

sure you can have the awd mid engine audi, but where is the fun in that. I go for the V8 VANTAGE due to the fun you have in RWD cars and the fact that there is more trunk space in it. Plus hand can you turn down a car that comes from the same lineage as the bond cars.

I would love to have both of these cars. They have drop dead good looks and they are both good preformers. This is a tough one. I have to go with the Vantage. Im a sucker for anything that James Bond drives.

Hmmm that’s a real hard choice, there both equal in a straight line but the R8 definitely has the advantage on a track with its Mid mounted Engine. But I love the style and sexy looks of the Vantage, it’s no DB9 but its still just as sexy so i’d go with the vantage
