FWD Challenger?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
I’m sure many of you have seen the pic of the Mustang with chains mounted on the front wheels, which has been featured in pretty much every Doing It Wrong thread over at VWVortex. Well, how about this guy? Apparently the dude who took the photo tried to tell the owner that the Challenger is RWD, but he didn’t listen.

That’s a 6 banger anyway so the front tires pretty much have as much power as the rear. GUTTLESS!

My gf will put sand behind her rear tires when her chevy aveo gets stuck. My mom wonders why her pontiac grand-am only spins the front tires. I just stand back and smile.

What an idiot!!! Even if your not an enthusiast or mechanic and don’t know what RWD looks like, It’s not that hard to tell it’s RWD. The buyer need look no further than the window sticker he got from the dealership. Even then, that’s unnecessary. My 6yr old nephew can even tell it’s RWD!!!

@Jay,
There is no such thing as AWD Challenger. Only 300, magnums, and chargers get the AWD.
Also, did anyone think he might of had 4 sets of chains to put on? I used drive the pass over winter and carried a set of 4 chains just in case weather got too bad.

I think that is the beater, it look like the SE. Regardless of what engine is in it, it’s still Rear Wheel Drive! I know that Chargers can have AWD, so it sorta makes sense there might be some Challengers made that way, but way not advertise if they did? And to those that put chains on their on front wheels for better steering, what happens when the drive wheels (in the rear for this case) decide not to grip anymore?

I know right! I’m in Texas don’t really get snow, but get real bad ice from time to time. I had an ’05 Mustang GT, glad I traded it for my XB before the winter of ’07. I’m out in the country some 50 mi. away from work in Dallas and one day there was an accident on every bridge ’cause of the ice! Not to mention NO ONE down here really knows how to drive in bad weather PERIOD!!! Leave the baby at home!

In that weather, I’d leave the Challenger behind and take a beater.

some people put chains on their front tires to help the car steer better. the chains dig in and keep the front wheels from pushing during cornering

From What I Have Read, there where a handfull of challengers that were released as all wheel drive platforms, now you are wondering why he is putting chains on frontwheels, dodge engineers recommends this due to the design and ratio the wheel distrubutes torque, for some reason that system puts 85%power to front wheels and 15% to rear at all times no matter what condition weather is or throttle!
