"Slightly Damaged" Challenger SRT8 With 29 Miles on eBay

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Hmmm, wonder how this happened. Think it was a test drive gone terribly wrong, or did someone back into it? The whole thing seems a bit fishy. If it only costs $2,300 to $2,800 to repair as the dealer claims, why don’t they do it themselves? If it has a salvage title, why isn’t it being auctioned off from the insurance pool? From the pics it looks like rocker panel is bent along with the damage to the door and both quarters. Think it’s worth $25,900 with a salvage title and no warranty? Via eBay

If I had to guess, since it’s being sold by a dealer, is that the damage probably happened as they were pulling it off the truck. Don’t back it up just right, and you’ll fall off the ramp.

Probably a salvage title because the dealer can’t sell it as NEW anymore after the repairs, so it’s lost a huge chunk of value just from that.

If I were in the market for a Challenger, and local, I’d definitely look into it. Since, from experience, it’s a pain in the ___ for Dodge to actually do warranty work, not having a warranty probably doesn’t mean much. :-)

What’s interesting is that whatever hit it was almost exactly the same size as the door. It’s almost like those Hot Wheels crash-ups back in the day, ha-ha! Then it was pushed it into something else. On another note, did anyone happen to go to the ebay link? Down towards the bottom it says “If you have any questions, please contact Mike Trickey.” Don’t think I’d like to deal with someone that has the word “TRICKY” in their name…Yeah something’s not right. $42,000+ is a hefty price, I know I sure as hell couldn’t afford that…

Maybe it falls under some state rules I am not aware of. But, a car generally isn’t considered a total loss until it costs 75% of the value of the car to fix.
Maybe it went under water?
Maybe it was a dealer owned and he refused to take it into inventory after the damage…
Something isn’t right.

I know someone that’s got one with a Salvage title already repaired though for $21,500, Silver 09′ SRT8 with 1,500 miles.

This vehicle comes with a SALVAGE title because it was purchased by the insurance company involved.

Might want to take down the VIN just in case you’re in the market a silver SRT8 pops up at your local dealer or auction cheap.

I’d just change the door and call it good, then see if you can blame the rest on a deer later

I wouldn’t touch this one. They need to fix it if they are going to get anyone in their right mind to buy it, especially with that price tag.

seems fishy, if it was was only 2k to fix they would do it. if it was just the door it would be easy enough but your talking the door, passenger fender and it looks like theres damage on the drivers fender, the front fender drivers side looks like its creased too and who knows about under the door.
