Cadillac Converj: the Hottest Car at NAIAS

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Ok, so this is definitely the hottest car at NAIAS. I saw it roll past on the carpet yesterday, but I was able to get up close and personal with it today, and even had a chance to talk to the head designer Brian Smith as well as Jeff Perkin, one of the interior designers. The attention to detail is amazing and the execution is flawles. The car looks great from every angle. Oh yeah, and it’s electric. Official press release and a ton of pics after the jump.

Photos are fun…Nikon?

By Weston Henderson

Weston Henderson

A couple of guys over here at CarDomain picked up some new Nikon DSLR’s over the holidays and we’ve been snapping photos like crazy.  Its amazing how much of a difference there is between SLR  and point and shoot pictures.  While nature scenes and the like look a whole lot different,  the difference is night and day when it comes to automotive photography.  You can control so much more of the environment and create some sick effects.

Electric Vehicle Fail

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

If you have an electric car, it should probably have a working ground system. This Kia Borrego outfitted with a fuel cell powertrain had some major fail when the terminal on the main ground strap broke in half. Ooooops! One more pic after the jump.

Superb detail on this electric vehicle concept from Mercedes. The pictures say it all—I love the contrast stitching on the door panels and the textures in the interior. More pics after the jump!

The Subaru Brat and the Isuzu Amigo suffered similar and ignominious fates: they failed in the market. You decide about the future of the Kia Soulster, an open-top version of the Kia Soul. More pics after the jump.

Ok, so maybe they don’t have any new models to unveil here. But the Lotus booth was dead. What gives? I could look at these all day. More pics after the jump.

By Katherine Helmetag

The designers over at Brilliance got the green paint memo. Here’s their hatchback, which we spotted on the upper floor. If you were wondering what would fill up the space left vacant by Nissan, Porsche, and the rest of the no-shows, here it is. More pics after the jump.

Instrument Panel in SAAB 9-X Air

By Katherine Helmetag

This is cool, even by concept car standards. Check out this video of the in-cluster navi concept for the SAAB 9-X Air. It’s pretty wicked.

Car Toys

Now that Christmas is over things are getting back to normal. It was great to catch up with some old friends over the break. One of my friends commented how his kids seemed to get an incredible number of presents compared to what we would have gotten when we were their age. I had to agree with him. Although we were well off, my sister and I only received one ‘major’ present at Christmas. To be perfectly honest I think it actually made it more memorable. The best present that I ever got for Christmas as a kid was back in the 70s when my folks gave me a new Smash Up Derby set. I can remember it as if it was yesterday. Having two cars that you could smash and then repair was like being in heaven. So what’s the best car type Christmas present that you have received?

Wagon or Hatch?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Katherine and I got in a huge fight about whether this is a wagon or hatch. I’m kind of thinking that since Cadillac calls it a CTS Sport Wagon that it’s a wagon. But Katherine said something about apertures and the ratio of the B/C to C/D pillar openings. I have no idea what she’s talking about. It’s a wagon, dammit. We both agreed that it’s pretty cool, though. More pics after the jump.
