By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration just published a new study on backover deaths and other “non-traffic” deaths and injuries related to automobiles. In addition to the 221 people killed by backing-up vehicles in 2007 , the study also cites the fact that 168 people were killed from 2003 to 2004 when they were trapped or pinned under vehicles, usually while working on cars that fell from the supports. So be careful guys and make sure you’re up to speed on your jack safety! Via MSNBC

Book Review: Racing Safely, Living Dangerously

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Here’s one of those little books that no one knows about but everyone should read. Racing Safely, Living Dangerously was published back in 2001. It’s the autobiography of Bill Simpson (with help from Bones Bourcier) and it takes readers basically all the way up to the time when Dale Earnhardt had his fatal crash at the Daytona 500. The book was running off the printing presses when that happened so it’s a weird thing to read this book, knowing that Bill Simpson would be drug through hell but didn’t know it was coming when the book was penned.

To put it bluntly, Bill Simpson was (and most likely still is) a maverick wild man who started a safety empire in his garage with a sewing machine. He built and lost fortunes, raced at the Indy 500, called the biggest names in motorsports of all genres his friends, and has lived the lives of five people in the time a normal man lives a half. "Slightly Damaged" Challenger SRT8 With 29 Miles on eBay

Hmmm, wonder how this happened. Think it was a test drive gone terribly wrong, or did someone back into it? The whole thing seems a bit fishy. If it only costs $2,300 to $2,800 to repair as the dealer claims, why don’t they do it themselves? If it has a salvage title, why isn’t it being auctioned off from the insurance pool? From the pics it looks like rocker panel is bent along with the damage to the door and both quarters. Think it’s worth $25,900 with a salvage title and no warranty? Via eBay

Last week I bored you with a math lesson and preached about proper suspension geometry. I also showed pictures of my sexy control arms. You can’t have one without the other, unfortunately. This week, I’m going to talk about all the little things that make this whole system work. Continue reading…

Sexy Knights FC3S

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

The First time I came in contact with the drift team called Sexy Knights was after I saw a DVD from Gripvideo a few years back. In the clip they had a meeting with several other drift teams at Showup, Asahi. It’s like a grocery for car products. After the meeting they went out drifting in a undisclosed area in the Chiba prefecture. This clip has been around for ages and made them immortal as far as I’m concerned. The night time drifting on the public streets was something new for me, but I fell in love right after that.

The team is led by D1GP competitor Sotoshi Suzuki. The cars they have build in the past feature some wild sparkling paintjobs and ultra low bodykits. They used the same approach with this Rx7 FC build to compete in the D1 Street Legal series. Although the car could be lowered a bit more. Let’s have closer look at what makes this car stand out.
