Muscle Car Factory Mustang

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

One of the things that really grabbed my attention at the Victorian Hot Rod Show on Friday was this Mustang Fastback. The thing that I really liked was that it was not any old Mustang. In fact it’s not old at all, it’s brand new! The Muscle Car Factory is offering turnkey ’67 Fastbacks using new bodies from Dynacorn, and they are the first to do it in this part of the world. Unlike some previous attempts by others where ‘old’ Mustangs were used to produce turn key cars this seems like a good plan. Personally I like it because you are not presented with the dilemma of ‘hacking’ up a classic piece of motoring history to build the car of your dreams. You can have your choice of color and trim and it comes standard with a 302 crate motor. Upgrades are available at an additional cost.

The 5.0 Mustang is Coming Back

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

There have been a lot of rumors swirling around, but Mike Levine over at PickupTrucks.com is reporting that a new 5.0 V8 will be the standard engine in the F-150 by late 2010, and that it will be shared with the Mustang. And Autoblog is guessing that Ford will show off this new  Stang variant at the New York Auto Show in April. Stay tuned…

This photo of Simon’s beautiful Holden was taken out at the track before he got rear-ended in December. But don’t worry, it’s getting fixed!

Peelerboy's Challenger on CarDomain!

By Rob Einaudi

My buddy Dale (AKA Peelerboy for his Schwinn obsession) just built a sweet ride page for his beautiful 4 speed 1971 Dodge Challenger. He restored this car back in 1992, but as you can see from this recent photo at  Milan Dragway, it’s no trailer queen! The old Mopar runs the quarter in 12.92 on Polyglas tires! If that’s not cool enough, Dale is living the dream of being a automotive designer in Detroit. Anyway, check out his ride and leave a comment in his guestbook!

Audi R8 Beats the Auston Martin V8 Vantage on CarDomain

This week’s Showroom Showdown started out close, but then the R8 really pulled ahead, winning by a 2-to-1 margin. I really like this photo of Ghost’s R8, which was part of Team Angry on last year’s Bullrun.

Is It Dirtball To Run Snow Tires Year-Round?

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Okay, so say you’re down and out, you’ve got four cars, and more than one of them needs a new set of tires. You know that “all season” tires don’t really cut it in hardcore snow and ice—you need a set of real honest-to-goodness snows on your winter car. Say this winter car gets driven only occasionally in the summer (you’ve got other toys), and you can’t afford a whole new set of summer tires for it in addition to the snows. So what’s the harm in running snow tires on it year-round? Of course, snows are made of much softer compounds, and they wear down fast if you’re clocking a lot of miles on warm summer roads. But if you’re talking about a winter workhorse that doesn’t travel more than a few hundred miles in the summer, it’s not like the tread life is going to take that much of a beating. Besides, there’s something kind of satisfying about the handling characteristics of sticky snow tires on hot asphalt, their grippiness in the wet, the meaty stance they give to your ride, and if applicable, their “diggability” in soft-surface four-wheeling conditions. Sure, it’s a little trashy to still have snows on your car in July, but only if they’re there due to sloth and negligence. Right?

The Moving Roadblock

By Rob Einaudi

I could definitely relate to this thread over on VWVortex. This is pretty much a constant for me in Seattle, with an army of beige Camrys and Priuses driving slow and clogging the roads. How often do you fall victim to the moving roadblock?
