Hyundai Genesis Coupe vs. Ford Mustang: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Ok, so Hyundai officially announced pricing on the Genesis Coupe today, and it looks like the V6 car is priced pretty close to the new Mustang GT. Both cars are 300+ hp, RWD and weigh a tad over 3,500 pounds. With the Genesis Coupe you get a 306 hp 3.8liter V6, a 6 speed and IRS. With the Mustang you get a 315 hp 4.6 liter V8, a 5 speed and a live rear axle. Which would you choose?

Let’s see, one is a great performance car with looks, reliability, warranty, 30mpg, endless aftermarket options, built for the future, and handling capabilities.

The other is from a company with horrible quality and reliability, great in a straight line, for people living in the past, 20mpg, and wow you’re cool, Knight Rider.

HYUNDAI ASSURANCE…. “IF YOU LOOSE YOUR JOB THROUGH THESE TOUGH ECONOMICAL TIMES, RETURN IT AND IT WONT GO AGAINST YOUR CREDIT.” CAN FORD DO THAT, OR DO THEY NEED TO ASK FOR SOME MORE BAILOUT MONEY? The old needs a hand-out, while the new gives a hand. One Hyundai Genesis for me please!

Hey “Dave,” grow the hell up! And while you’re at it, learn how to spell and use punctuation! What makes you such an expert on these cars? Do you own either one of them? Then you don’t have any right or reason to go running your mouth about what a piece of crap the Hyundai is! It hasn’t even been released for magazine testing yet, so who the fuck are you to say what a pile of shit it is or isn’t? As a matter of fact, you are the pile of shit! Who’s to say that the Hyundai couldn’t handle 400/ 500 hp? Show me one Mustang in existance that can handle 750 hp without heavy modification!!! Go ahead, prove me wrong! Hellmouth makes a valid point, the Musting is undoubtedly an icon and a great car in spite of itself, and yes, it did virtually run the streets in the 60’s and 70’s when it was in it’s glory days. However, times have changed, and the Mustang no longer is king of the hill. Just look at the specs for the new Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro! The Mustang is gonna need more than a pretty face if it is to continue playing in the muscle car field.
And what’s with the “I don’t respect imports…” bullshit? Listen here you ignorant bastard! I’ve seen tailgaters and stupid drivers in Mustangs and 90’s Camaros just as much as I’ve seen people in imports driving like idiots! I haven’t the faintest clue what kind of fantasy world you’re living in, but not everyone who owns an imported car drives like the asshole you portray them as! That was a truly ignorant, stupid and stereotypical comment, and it makes you look like an even bigger jackass than you already look like from you terrible grammar! I’d be willing to bet money that you would be the first one to jump down somebody else’s throat if they said something to the effect of, “I don’t respect American Cars because all the people who drive them are stupid hicks! And they all think that just because their car is ‘built in America’ (pronounced a-mur-i-ca) that it’s the greatest car on the face of the earth!” Some American cars are crap, just like some imports; while others are great, like some other imports, so don’t go stereotyping! (And if you have to look up the meaning of the word stereotype, then just quit while you’re ahead, jackass!) And while you’re taking this all in, I’d like to see these “facts” that you claim to have about imports being crap, and American V-8s being such a great sound! Don’t go making claims you can’t back up, asshole! Give credit where credit is due! Hyundai has come a really long way in a relatively short period of time, and while the Genesis may not be as iconic or even as good as the Mustang, it still remains to be seen, and Hyundai should still be commended on their effort! Now shut up, stop being a jackass, and go take some grammar lessons!

MUSTANG! hands down!

Dave
Feb 13, 2009 at 11:59 am

Are you crazy Hellmouth? the mustang is a icon and it dose not need to learn anything from any auto maker and hyundai for sure has nothing going for them at all there is nothing good about hyundai at all nothing. if you mod a mustang you can get alot of horsepower and it will take that power to the ground and it be well over 750 HP that hyundai wouldn’t stand over 400 hp for sure ppl will try but im gona have to say that motor wont take that munch to blow that hyundai motor up and its a waste of money mustang runs the streets for ever. if you look at a classic mustang and now 1980s mustangs and so on the mustang will always look good and run good even when it’s old. the hyundai is going to show it’s age and going to look like crap and sound and drive like crap and to say a import sounds good when rev’d thats a bullshit lie. the sound of a V8 american car is like no other im done telling the facts people are lame to like imports i don’t respect imports at all because they have no respect for american made cars and they drive like stuiped pricks tailgaters and cutin ppl off when there driving normal no more to this madness imports suck plan and simple.

Genesis all the way.

Hellmuth
Feb 13, 2009 at 9:31 am

All these people continue to speak about how they drove a Hyundai Accent and it was crap so there is no way they would drive the Genesis. What!? Do you realize what you are saying!? That would be like me saying I would never drive the Mustang because this one time I drove a ‘93 Taurus and it wasn’t worth putting gas in.
The Genesis is a HIGHLY upgraded vehicle when compared to what Hyundai has originally put out.
It has been put to the test against such automotive companies as Lexus, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi. Not only that but in testing is has met or surpassed these vehicles.
Yes the Mustang is an iconic name. However that is about all it has going for it. The NAMES history. The Mustang is not what it use to be. It no longer runs the the streets. Ford needs to take a few lessons from Hyundai and upgrade their flagship vehicle.

I drive american but i would have to say the genesis hyundai has finaly got there act together took long enough but in these hard times and the reliability issues that have plagued american cars for the past decade seeled the deal although i would love to have a new mustang gt the genesis seems the choice for now and i drive a saturn make fun if you will but im a middle of the road type person and the facts are in imports (from asia land) are more reliable but i wont argue the rust issue someone pointed out.

alfonso
Feb 13, 2009 at 7:06 am

i would have to go wit da MUSTANG! imports suck! and even though the genesis pushes about the same hp as the mustang, and its only a 6 cylinder, it dont matter cuz when both are side by side parked, the mustang would win the rev contest cuz ders nothing like the sound of a v8!!!!!!!

Psycareyo
Feb 13, 2009 at 6:46 am

The Mustang by a landslide. Nothing sounds like a V8. As a modder, I know that the Mustang has limitless possibilities and the same goes for its 4.6L V8. It’s probably even cheaper to mod.

when did i say i hated american cars? i like all cars im just sayin wat u said made no sense. and your kinda goin against what your saying in your comment. u say people shouldnt say bad things about domestics. i agree theres no need for that. but its ok to talk shit about imports? ok then now your basically deciding that domestics are better no matter what the circumstance. u say “there should be no bad talk about either one of them cars ” yet your talking shit about imports??? wtf? you want people to respect domestics but its ok to not respect imports even though there shouldnt be any bad talk about any of them…alrighty then

Dave
Feb 12, 2009 at 10:54 pm

let me tell you somthing im just pointing that out to a couple people who talk about that rust is a problem i make facts. this is true any car can last along time if you take care of it. but imports break down too. my girl friends lexus broke down a couple times i have friends with hondas and toyota they break down too and under 120,000 miles my grandpas toyota camry with 90,000 miles had alot of trouble so i can back up anything i say even tho my spelling is off somtimes i make facts.i know ppl got there opions but you should respect american cars they paved the road for them ricers and tuners. so i don’t think it’s right that ppl talk bad about chevy ford or dodge. because really toyota honda this hyundai deal is just to me worthless. there should be no bad talk about either one of them cars but the american car is a icon and should have more respect then the bad talkers.

Jesus in a Soda Can
Feb 12, 2009 at 10:47 pm

Dave,”and for chevy ford and dodge it’s like in the 1960s and 1970s there rusted old american cars the new like 1980s and some 1990s imports rust the most” that sentence makes as much sense as a $2 bill. and wat does rust have to do with the reliability of a car. every car can rust if u dont take care of it regardless of who makes it. fuck make some sense if your gonna talk trash would ya…

Dave
Feb 12, 2009 at 10:31 pm

ALL the people who say that the genesis is good there wrong. i rented out a hyundai accent and it was junk. toyota rusted faster then any other brand out there rust more then chevy ford and dodge. the 1980s toyotas rust so bad i seen so many of them with huge rust holes and some with no roofs. and for chevy ford and dodge it’s like in the 1960s and 1970s there rusted old american cars the new like 1980s and some 1990s imports rust the most. and i know plenty of ppl with mustangs with over 250,000 miles so i can back up what i say about american cars do last along time how dare anyone talk bad about american cars imports are all junk.

I’ve been eagerly anticapting the Genisis coupes’ arrival. Nothing wrong with the Stang, but with these hard, economical times, Hyundai offering that “Customer Assurance return policy” that wont effect your credit if you loose your job….CAN FORD DO THAT FOR ME with a Mustang AFTER ACCEPTING BAIL OUT MONEY……..I’ll be at the dealership when the first Genesis coupe comes in!

Feb 12, 2009 at 8:40 pm

bdporkchop i think thats only u that your domestics were better than the imports cuz ive had a Jeep and a Pontiac, both with no more than 50k miles, regularly maintenanced and the Jeeps’ tranny needed rebuilding and i had a problem with the Pontiac where i had 4 different engine problems within 3 weeks. each time the car didnt even start. i even had a time when i took it in for repair and when i went to go pick it up, it broke on me again at the shop parking lot with a different problem. since then ive only had a Toyota and a Honda, and guess wat both have over 50k miles and has NEVER had to be repaired for anything and has never given me any troubles. O and another thing is that the problem with American car companies is that they bullshit through their building of cars. So that they can make more money they cut corners and leave a lot of flaws with their cars, unlike imports(well i dont know about Hyundais, never owned one, never will)My Pontiac had gaps between body panels and a lot of things on the outside were just not right. As for the Jeep, for some reason Chrysler fucked up when building that thing where my brake discs would warp over time and im not talking 10 years; i had to get my fuckin brake rotors replaced twice within the first 3 years of owning it. And just like the engine, my imports have no flaws watsoever. everything on the car is put on neatly and reliably.

genesis. the mustang is .8L and 2 cylinders more than the genisis but only has 9 more horses. a couple tweaks to the hyundai and youve pretty much got the same power rating, and you dont need a full tank to turn the car over. and personally i hate american cars. there garbage.

This is a tough one. I guess they appeal to different people by appearance. The Mustang looks more powerful, the Genesis looks more elegant, almost like it can handle turns better. Eh I guess I’d have to say Mustang since thre are parts up the yin yang for it.

Feb 12, 2009 at 1:40 pm

First off thx to those who read this. But I think it’s somewhat pathetic on Ford to make a V8 nowdays with only 315hp. LS3 in new Z28 Camaro 415hp. The 3.6 from GM is around 300hp, I say do a comparo with the Hyundai Coupe and it! Mustangs are always being modify by some other company like Saleen or Roush. I guess they have the Shelby as well. But there still cool. Let me also give another reason to do a comparo with the V6 Camaro and Genesis. Genesis 4.6 $38K, slower than the G8 GT for around $32K. G8 GXP same price as the Genesis, Hyundais seem over priced, although in the rugged economy you can return your car. I guess it comes down to either tried and true or something new. But I’d probably take the Genesis and return it if it sux!

I’d have to give this one to hyundai.First and foremost Hyundai has come along way from its Hyundai Excell and Accent days. I mean to think that they developed a nice coupe with form that would rival a Infinity G37 and to power that coupe with a V6 powerplant that nearly tops the V8 in the Mustang! I don’t know about you but American Muscle does’nt have the appeal it used to. Secondly the Mustang does’nt really hold its resale value as well as it used to, actually not really any domestic really holds it resale value. Lastly the Mustang was just recently compared with another import you may have heard of it the Nissan 370z, now the comparison was’nt about win or lose but anyone who knows what I am speaking of knows who the victor is. My point is, is that the Mustang has been compared to several other cars and in every comparison segment it has lost in some way or fashion. Looks like bad times for the pony car. Oh I do really dislike Hyundai’s though.

This is REALLY tough, because the Mustang is cooler and has more soul (and a little more grunt), but the Genesis is more sophisticated, has a more efficient engine, and probably has better handling and build quality.
This is pretty much a battle of emotion versus reason.

I guess I’m gonna have to vote for the Mustang, because sports cars are about emotion, not reason. The Mustang simply looks better, sounds better, and has a cooler interior.

Did you forget how to use the Shift key mid-paragraph when typing Sean? Check your spelling and your grammer a little more closely too because you sound ignorant in your speech, as well as your idiology. Like other’s have said, including myself, American cars aren’t made in America any more. They’re farmed from those foreign countries that you so despise, then assembled here in America. If you’ve got a career you’d know this by now. The world’s a free market.

I don’t understand why this is a competition.. If nothing else the Mustang is supposed to get a nice engine overhaul in 2011. Mustang 135% sure. So not that there is any competition, but I do feel bad for the Genesis that it has to bear that weight XD

The mustang camaro and challenger are american icons they are legonds. they paved the road for other cars to be cool. have respect for the mustang camaro and challenger them new ricer cars have no clue what a real car stands for be a american and buy american made. to that one person that said young new drivers you can’t afford either one go drive your crappy 1990s honda civic. im not old 20s and i go for the mustang freash nothing the tunner cars are junk the ricers are junk all about american pride. mustangs look alot better then any import.

There’s a reason why Hyundai offers a 10 yr., 100,000 mi. warranty…Beware of the companies offering that kind of warranty. On another note, Mustang’s got the power and the torque = Genesis is toast…That and what’s with the cheesy upside down curve in the rear quarter window of the Genesis. It STILL looks like a Tiburon.

read the link in the text above the pictures… the Genesis doesn’t come with a V8… it’s a 2.0L Turbocharged of 210hp for the base model and the V6 of 306hp for the upper model…

So my choice is the Genesis for sure…

and for those whos saying that the genesis is just piece of shit because it comes from Korea… well its time for you to evolve and open your mind. Hyundai have made infinatly more progress in the quality of their products (style, quality, performance) in the last years then ford have made in the 10 years. I would also take the V6 over the V8 because gas price are just asking to get higher and higher in the next years and for the same performance i don’t want to pay for more gas… and finally the tunning possibility… well it have been on the market for 3-4 months already in Korea so it surely doesnt have the same aftermarket for the mustang that have been there for 4 years… but since it offers a 2.0L turbo engine im sure that many aftermarket company will have fun to upgrade those componnents and make it the new S13 or AE86 because its almost the same 4 cylinder that is in the Mitsu Evo X and in the Caliber SRT4…

I just want to say this to all of you who don’t understand the whole import/domestic deal. The manufacturing of automobiles counts for less than 20% of the profits of a sale. So the assembly plants that are in america don’t real count for anything. Most of your money is still going back over seas. Another big part to this, is that all of the steel that is used to make an import is shipped over to the assembly, it’s not american steel. And the reason that I care so much about this is that my father works at a steel mill.

i dont understand why people hate on imports. Hyundai has a plant in the usa. so does a handful of others. i am not trying to get all political and shit but maybe they shouldnt off paid the employees a rediculus wage to just put on steering wheels. Its the auto makers fault(gm chevy ford) for making the mistake. I drive a domestic. thats not the problem. its ignorant people. and not to mention bush had a big role in our finacial crunch.

No competition, mustang. North American all the way, not a huge difference in horsepower but i’d still rather have the V8, due it also, i’d imagine, would have more torque than the Hyundai. That and with the mustang you get kind of that agressive muscle car look ;)

Mustang

Austin
Feb 12, 2009 at 8:11 am

Mustang. I’m not a huge fan of the newer styled Mustang, particularly the taillights, but it has more character than the Genesis. Also, with the Mustang, you get that V8 soundtrack even though Hyundai’s V6 is almost as powerful, I’d take a V8 of a V6 any day even if just for the sound.

carsick30
Feb 12, 2009 at 8:02 am

oh, and p.s.- the whole “buy american because you live here” thing makes no sense. we’re all paying taxes even when economy sucks. if anything we’re giving this place even more money when buying foreign because we’re paying for the retarded tariffs placed on imports. we all support this place plenty regardless of what car we have.

mike

Genesis, easy – especially the turbo 4. Hotness.

carsick30
Feb 12, 2009 at 7:45 am

hmm.. this is a tough one… they are both made by companies who have not produced any quality for over 30 years.. each one will need major repair in 12 months… both are choke-filled with cheesy plastic parts.. both are maybe good for smooth straightaway drag with no major turns. it would be great if they came under the “buy one, get one free program” where the ford is the free one and doubles as a flashy paper weight. i’d go with huyindai only because they’ll still be in business 5 years from now, their warranty for their crap is better and now you can return the junk in first 12 months if you lose your job.

Gordon
Feb 12, 2009 at 7:38 am

I vote the new Mustang because I am an American and American cars help the American economy. Plus once a Kenne Bell supercharger pushing 18 psi sits on top of that v8 the Genesis would never catch it… not even the police could catch it.

withaj
Feb 12, 2009 at 7:32 am

This is an extremely bias poll.

There are far too many rednecks with mullets and MTV tattoos to justify placing these two against each other.

I choose the Genesis, the better car by far. The Mustang is out performed in every department by it. Only, the illiterate bunch of Mustang owners would never understand. Let me know if the Mustang is ever updated for this century.

The Genesis is the most exciting production car every built in Korea, no question. I salute them for beginning to turn over a new leaf and build some real refinement and power. However, at the end of the day, its still a Hyundai and the Ford is still a Mustang. I’d take the mustang.
Also, about the “Ford turning a profit” remark, sorry to break it to you but all production cars are made to turn a profit, not just to be cool. Thats true with Hyundai, Ford, Lexus, Ferrari etc. They are businesses. Profit is what they are about.

The Hyundai Genesis (souped up Tiburon)is the blandest looking piece of shit. Absolutely ugly and no style. Chicks would laugh if you pulled up in that Hyundai thinking you were the shit. Mustang all the way!!!! Classic styling and a reliable American V8. And I mean if you had to get an import the 370Z would absolutely embarrass that Genesis Coupe in looks and refinement

Hyundai Genesis

Mark
Feb 11, 2009 at 10:21 pm

I’ll take the Mustang, shit I’ll take the basic V6 model over the top of the line Hyundai Genesis for the simple fact that its American. I’d rather push an American built car than drive a Korean car any day of the week, because I still believe in this country goddamnit and I believe in the only American car company not begging for government aid. I don’t care what the performance difference is, I’ll drive a shitbucket of an american car before I drive anything foreign, because I was born in America and she’s been good to me, even if I’ve fallen on hard times as of late. I’d spill my blood for this country and its shit cars, without even thinking twice, because I have pride in being American, something thats been completely lost as of late. If you don’t like that than fuck you.

Quad_Cam_V8_VTEC
Feb 11, 2009 at 9:58 pm

For the people that don’t know what the FUCK they’re talking about, the Genesis comes with “TWO” engines; A 3.8L V6 with 290HP, and 264 ft lbs of TQ, and a 4.6L V8 with 375HP, and 333 ft lbs of TQ. I think that’s a pretty damn good upgrade from Hyundai. Don’t believe me, here’s the Wikipedia on the Hyundai Genesis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Genesis

Rich
Feb 11, 2009 at 9:12 pm

its honestly a tough choice. the Mustang is just straight up a nice car. regardless of what people sy. and its bound to get an upgraded Power train and Hopefully suspension as well. but the new Genesis is just so damn sleek and clean. Im sure it’ll have it’s supporters ounce its rolls off the show room floor. Not to mention it makes more power from a smaller engine. but still a Mustang GT has those extra Cylinders and plenty of torque across the board so it is a tough choice indeed

JRSK
Feb 11, 2009 at 8:56 pm

I’ll take the Mustang over a Hyundai any day. As far as the aftermarket goes, it’s already there for the Mustang – you want a bolt-on supercharger, you got two or three choices. You want a better sounding, higher performance exhaust system – done. You want lower springs and higher performance shocks – done and done. And you won’t have to wait six months for them either. They’re already on the shelves.

I’m waiting for the 2010 Mustang GT anyway.

kenny
Feb 11, 2009 at 8:54 pm

How come the Mustang has a V8 and it only makes 9 more hp than the Gen’s v6? Cylinder bragging rights maybe? Anyways, I personally don’t like the design of either of them but if I’d say the stang looks less worse…

Derrick
Feb 11, 2009 at 8:34 pm

I’ll take a V8 over a V6 any day of the week, so the Rustang it is!

Kevin
Feb 11, 2009 at 8:24 pm

While the Genesis is nice looking, the performance is a huge step up for Hyundai, and the interior is lovely, it still seems to be a souped looking Tiburon to me (though those were ok looking cars). But the Mustang is a Mustang, it accomplished all this more and has been for a LONG time. Though I may have a slight bias for them. But maybe we all have to text drive both of them and see which is better… lol

gtwildfire

xXHotelCrazyXx
Feb 11, 2009 at 7:47 pm

Genesis no questions asked. Mustangs are way to common. I personally cant stand them, the Genesis takes the cake in looks and performance. Way to step it up Hyundai (Even though you copied the hell out of Nissan)

FordRulesAll
Feb 11, 2009 at 7:38 pm

Sorry for the big FORD thing at the bottom it was supposed to say FORD, but any way like Gotadime said it’s kind of a disgrace to the Mustang to compare it to a Hyundai. Really that would be like comparing the America to Korea. Lets have a little pride in our country a Hyundai has no room to be compared to an American Muscle car Mustang, Challenger, or Camaro. These car are some of the very building blocks of the reason we love and customize cars. And if anybody would pay attention the Mustang will be getting an Ecoboost, and possibilities of a 5.0 This is rediculous show a little more pride in your country.

About the Hyundai’s airbags not deploying, there’s one guy on here that barrel-rolled his brand new Impala four times and they didn’t go off. It can happen in any car, doesn’t matter what make. It could even happen in the Mustang.

the Mustang. it’s domestic, doesn’t look like a knock-off European car, and it’s just plain ballsy. Actually looks like it’s got muscle.

Adam

Genesis, surprised myself on this one, but the aftermarket industry is going to blow up over this thing!

TJ
Feb 11, 2009 at 6:05 pm

Mustang. The Hyundai looks kinda of awkward from the front, and while both of their engines make similar peak horsepower, the 4.6 in the v6 is going to make more power lower down which should make it faster, plus the v8 rumble. Besides, there was a blog on here where a genesis coupe in Korea got its entire front end destroyed and the airbags never deployed which makes me wonder about Hyundai’s supposed quality and reliability.

Alex
Feb 11, 2009 at 5:51 pm

I’m going with Patrick on this one. But if I were to test drive both, the Hyundai would attract me more at first glance than the new Mustang. The ‘05′09 Mustang styling is much better than what the facelift. IRS sounds much more stable around turns, and the fact that a considerably smaller V6 has nearly the same power rating as a well known V8, then Hyundai might be sitting on something good. To be honest, the new Mustang looks like someone tried to drive it into a too narrow alley, not to mention that Hyundai is finally at the point where they aren’t selling cars solely on the low price. They’re finally proving that their cars are actually very nice and formidable, not to mention still priced reasonably.

and i’d take the genesis because that drift show they had for it was crazy(check youtube), and FORD isnt always the best. yes they are 100 years old, but thats 100 years to cheapen out and look who needed the bailout…not hyundai. my buddies dad owns a hyundai dealership and hes rich as fuck.

Definitely the Stang. The mild redesign still has to grow on me, but I’ve always been a diehard enthusiast, so this isn’t a hard decision for me. I bet Ford will be able to push to 2015 before a major do over. That’s just incredible that they could keep it looking almost the same for 10 years and still have sales up in the stratosphere.

Dunkel Mann
Feb 11, 2009 at 5:42 pm

Whichever one is cheaper… although i like the look of the ’stang more, even though i heard with that solid rear axle from a truck the back end wants to kick out around turns. just what i’ve heard… I couldn’t even test drive the damn V6 once they heard i was 20 lol.

Feb 11, 2009 at 5:17 pm

The mustang looks nicer in my opinion, but think of how many mustangs are on the road. You’d just be another mustang in a million. With a little help I think the Genesis could look pretty cool. I’m just guessing that the V6 would get better fuel economy but still produce a bit of power.

Kevin
Feb 11, 2009 at 5:17 pm

I never thought I would see the day when there would be a comparison between the company that introduced the Hyundia Pony and the company that introduced the Mustang. Mustangs are a different kind of car for people who prefer American made stamped on it so it is not a fare comparison, it’s like comparing a Corvette to a Civic. Both are great cars in their own right but they have their own following just like Ford has it followers vs GM and Chrysler ( MOPAR ).

What communist would choose a Hyundai over a Mustang

Mike
Feb 11, 2009 at 3:26 pm

MUSTANG

My experiences with owning a Santa Fe is horrible. Fords run better, and last longer. Got to admit Hyundai is improving, but I still rather own a Mustang.

Also, I would not be surprised if the V8 Mustang would get better fuel economy than a V6 Hyundai!

chris
Feb 11, 2009 at 3:23 pm

The genesis is from korea a communist country even if it’s north korean it’s still communist. the american auto makers make munch better cars then hyundia im staying away from there communist cars. like some other ppl said in this topic the mustang is a classic not this genesis this is a waste of money. mustang camaro challenger all the way.

Mike
Feb 11, 2009 at 3:19 pm

As a Mustang owner, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I would pick the Genesis Coupe! It looks good, it’s got the right stuff w/ probably better fuel economy, that 3.8L V6 is putting out about 100 more ponies than Ford’s 4.0L V6, so it just goes to show how much work they put in to squeeze all those ponies! Watch out, here comes Hyundai!!!

No disrespect for the Good Book, but Genesis is the not the first name that comes to mind for a sports car model.

Him: I’ll be picking you up in my new Genesis.
Her: You mean we’re going to church on a Friday night?

And the obvious question between the 2010 Ford Mustang and a Hyundai Genesis is which one is likely to become a classic and which one a trivia question? Or which one already has a fan club that’s larger than the one for Star Trek?

Add to this that the 2010 ’stang is the best looking model since the 1969 version. Also, should you want a convertible for summer cruising, with the Hyundai, you’re out of luck.

Just going by what manufacturer’s claim, Geneis with 306 HP and wimpy 266 lb./ft. torque? Against Mustang with 315 HP and 325 lb./ft. torque? The stock performance for the Genesis doesn’t look too promising especially if the L.B.S’s are about the same. The Genesis, even though a 6-spd., probably has a closer gear ratio than the Mustang’s 5-spd. So, the Genesis is probably going to blow through all 6 gears before the Mustang hit’s 5th. Besides, no iconography either…
