Retreads

Bridgestone had a cool display about retreading truck tires. I’m a tire freak, so it was pretty interesting to me. It’s a real remanufacturing process—more indepth than I thought.

I think you can get them for passenger cars gtwildfire. My ex’s parents bought a half set of retreads one time for their conversion van while on a road trip. She was driving and they fell apart. HB – Why would you say that? You got a set on your car or something? If it’s a tire that’s been shredded up, melted and reused to make NEW tires, that’s fine, that’ just recycling the material – if it’s possible, like what they do with tennis shoes. But if it’s just removing the top layer of tread and some how wraping a new tread around it, that just doesn’t sit right with me…

seen the process on TV before. Guess its the best option for trucking companies and independents, but I’m not thrilled about dodging truck tire skins at highway speeds and I hope they aren’t looking to expand the practice to passenger cars.

This is the first time I have ever seen these parts of those tires. The rest is all over the highway.

Spoken like someone that doesn’t know the facts about them.
