RWD Toyota/Subaru Project Postponed Until March 2012: Code Named 086A
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
For a while there it looked like this project was dead in the water. Turns out it just got delayed a bit, owing to the challenges presented by trying to apply direct injection to the flat-4 boxer engine. Fans of the AE86 will like the new code name. Heck, maybe this news will make Nissan reconsider their decision to cancel the Silvia replacement. More at 7Tune.com

wow. Not a fan of the styling but a rwd toybaru sounds like it could be a fun succesor to the AE86. and because the car is rwd the engine will be mounted straight, not gay.

I like it! But why RWD?!! Subaru has expertise on 4WD technology they should take advantage of that.

God that front end is hideous. Change the front and I think it’d be cool.

Maybe the Nissan cancellation made the Subyota/Toybaru project stay alive. They would hold the corner stone for tuner performance RWD chassis under $20k. I already told my wife I am getting one.

I’d love to see Nissan bring back their Silvia but the Levin/Trueno was always a more economical non sport car compared to the Silvia, which was essentially a performance car.
