Glass Roof Mustang at CarDomain Headquarters
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
I was trying to figure out why Ford was giving us a 2009 Mustang GT. I mean, I wasn’t complaining—I love these cars. But there wasn’t really anything new for 2009 that I could think of. But then it showed up and I was like, oh yeah, glass roof! The perfect cure for Seattle seasonal affective disorder! Anyway, stay tuned for more on this red pony.

I hate to make a post like this without having all the facts, but Saleen who first introduced the glass top unveiled a retracting glass top some time last year. I don’t know if it’s actually available but it gives the open air of a convertible while keeping the rigidity and body lines of a typical Mustang. See it here: http://www.muscularmustangs.com/images6/skyvumustang.jpg

If I were to buy a new Stang, I think this is something I’d want. It seems more ques are being taken from the “italian stallion” than I first thought.http://www.musclecarblog.com/g/albums/GiugiaroMustangConcept/51.jpg

Sorry Rob I don’t know what I was thinking. You are right, but again I have to mention this is SHATTER PROOF glass with laminate in between the layers so its just like your windshield people, no shards just cracks.

Not to mention how fast the inside is going to heat up during the summer time, not very anti-reflective…I hope that A/C goes to 11!

Brett, the option is $1,995 according to the window sticker they gave me.

The glass is the same material as the windshield, it does have a semi-transparent cover that slides into place and is a $5000 option. Overpriced if you ask me. either get a convertible or a coupe don’t waste the money on this.

Yeah, it has a sliding cloth-type cover that is semi-opaque. I think I would have preferred a hard opaque cover, though.

I think it looks good, does it have anything in case you don’t want the sunroof effect all the time? automatic sliding cover??

Have fun with it I think it would be great, In my opinion it would be better than a convertible.

Does it have a cover, is it shatter proof?

I personally don’t like the idea. If I want to look up at the bright blue sky while I’m driving, I’ll get the convertable!
