Showroom Showdown or Caption Contest?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
I snapped this pic of our 300C SRT-8 test car at a rest stop on I-5 on the way back from Portland this weekend. I’ll share my thoughts on the big bad Mopar tomorrow, but for now I thought I’d just toss this out there. So is this left lane vs. right lane? Union built vs. non-union built? 18 mpg vs 48 mpg? V8 vs I4? Hemi vs. hybrid. Red state vs. blue state? Form vs. function? Retro vs. modern? Past vs. future..?

300!
You can say what you will, Chrysler has some really hot cars and some really great things in the pipeline. The new 2010 300 is spot on and from the sounds of it the new Charger will be just as big and mean as ever. AND it’s looking like the 200 concept is the direction of the the next Seabring. Detractors can hate all they want but Chrysler has some really great cars out right now and some good things in the pipeline… Looking at the Chrysler booth in Chicago I can tell you no other car (Camaro included) had the fan following and fingerprints from people molesting it as the Dodge Challenger. The thing Chrysler has done with cars like the 300 and Challenger is evoke emotion. All companies create misses (azteck *cough cough*) but I can’t wait to play with the NEW 300 next year!

I second that Brian.
For me theres no comparison. It’s a nice car thats a blast to drive or just ride in with a friend (that was a fun night) vs. the last car i would want to drive because i wouldn’t want to take the chance of being seen as a liberal tree-hugging hippie.
But i mean think about it, for a car person it isn’t really much of a choice, a fun car vs. a purely functional car…300 hands down.

Retro vs. Modern – the 300C is often described to have a retro style, while the Prius is modern.
Red State vs. Blue State – One car is red, one is blue. Also, Red States (republican) are generally more traditional and blue more liberal/progressive/whatever. 300c is traditional, Prius (hybrid) is “progressive.”
Past vs. Future – Big horsepower gas engines are often looked at as a thing of the past nowadays, while hybrids are considered the future.

Even though Chrysler isn’t doing well, and I’m not really a Chrysler fan, I feel embarrassed for the SRT-8 to have to sit next to a Prius.

This is what happens when you leave the Chrysler out in the Sun too long.

I don’t get it. Retro vs. Modern? There’s nothing retro about this 300. Non-union built is one reason why foreign car companies are flourishing. V8 and inline 4 are incomparable. What’s with the red state/blue state? There’s no past or future depicted here, it’s all the present day. They’re both passenger cars, so they’re both functional, one is built lighter for going long distances using as little fuel as possible = cheaper at the pump (approx. $20), while the other is a heavey gas guzzler = bigger gas tank = expensive at the pump (approx. $35-$40). I also noticed there was no mention of the name ‘Prius’ in the paragraph.
