Tramontana R

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

My buddy Ben over at Jalopnik thinks this thing is ugly. I think it’s hilarious and kind of cool, too. Motivation comes from a NA 550 hp or twin-turbocharged 760 hp Mercedes V12. They’re gonna build a dozen per year and it’s priced around $500k. So what do you think? Hot or not?

Lockheed Martin has gone too far here. Lockheed…. the F-22 is a fighter jet not a car. Cool looks though. Every Air Force Fighter Pilot is gonna want one.

IT’s AWESOME…but not $500,000 awesome. It is definitely an F-1 car for the street. You can’t fit any fine ass girls in it though.

looks crazy but would be a fun toy for sure

I would never buy one but I would kill to be able to take it for a couple of laps around Watkins Glen!!

expo_on_24z
Feb 26, 2009 at 7:31 pm

A jet on wheels. For another $500,000 I could buy a fighter plane. It does look awesome and if I were rich I would buy one. I wonder if you can eject if you are about to crash.

Yes..No… It´s too.. it is not…this happens when a BIG step is taken.. we “humans” do NOT understand jumping from 1 to 25.. we must go 1 by one. and then so… We MUST realize. that this is the 21ST CENTURY.. do you realize how many things the 1900´s DID?… well.. some guys TOOK ahead. Wright brothers.. Edison.. My God even Dr. FREUD.. My Personal OPINION I LIKE IT.. provably because I´m willing to have the “good” future.. ASAP.

thats a awsome concept .. but not reali practical obvi.. but i would take one if i was to had a few bucks layin around lol/// looks fun as hell to drive too ..

Charlie
Feb 26, 2009 at 2:57 pm

I think it’s funny that this is published as ‘cool’ after a recent cardomain blog went on about how stupid a street legal 2 seater F1 car was. Given this one has a hell of a lot more power than the previously mentioned one and it has a way more professional look about it, it’s still a $500,000 dollar toy. You could buy a Nissan GT-R for yourself and buy one for your four best friends and still have enough left to buy gas for the rest of your life. I think anyone that buys this has more cents than sense.

WOW that looks awesome!!!!

Like a jet fighter!

carsick30
Feb 26, 2009 at 5:19 am

Looks like a Dust Buster on wheels. Plus why did they bother with the back seat? Looks like a set up of one of those water flumes in a water amuzement park. Has about as much practical application as back seats of McLaren F1. For the same money I’d take the Benz SLR.

Feb 26, 2009 at 5:12 am

I think its bad ass… lets see ‘em hand the keys over to the stig!

Rob
Feb 26, 2009 at 4:29 am

For some reason, I can see a Zonda somewhere in it…That and maybe a chrystler Prowler for the front wheels only. For $500k and a single-seater, you better hope you have some other car to bring a bottle of milk home. And what’s with the opening cockpit door? Do they have parking garages where this thing is made from?

wreckless_driving_your_mom

Oh and I fucking love that LCD gauge cluster

wreckless_driving_your_mom
Feb 26, 2009 at 3:38 am

I’m impressed, spains producing a car worth the second look. I’d like to see the stats so I can see what the power to weight distribution is. I mean it does remind me of an insect, a harrier fighter jet on wheels, or a Mclaren/Mercedes MP4 indy car’s and a Ferrari Enzo’s lovechild. Eitherway its peculiar and cool at the same time although I’m not a big fan of the seating setup and I notice there is almost negative amount of room for your luggage. I am looking forward to seeing this in action on a track and hopefully tested on Top Gear. I’d love to see it tested against the Caparo T1 for their common indy car look/design. I’d have to say that this vehicle is definitely hot but not on a Koenigsegg or pagani level but hot known the less.

I think I’ll take mine with an open cockpit!!

Feb 25, 2009 at 6:02 pm

I love it, but I have to question whether I’d plunk down 500k if I could. The Atom is much cheaper, but still has the bare bones experience. On the other hand, you want to make absolutely sure there’s not a cloud in the sky if you drive an Atom. No such limitations on this car.

Eurobahn
Feb 25, 2009 at 5:54 pm

This is art, the person that designed this toy has skills

Rick V.
Feb 25, 2009 at 5:48 pm

If you do not absolutely love the hardcore, over-the-top, no frills, zero compromises for performance nature of this car, you have no testicles… end of story. “Thats the Ariel Atom on serious ‘roids provided by Enzo.” -Don. That’s brilliant man–that’s exactly what this is.

I think it is cool. It is really unique, and that makes it perfect. I hate when I go places and I see everybody driving the same thing. So I think it is good to change it up a bit, and I think this car is really creative!

Steve Neil
Feb 25, 2009 at 2:33 pm

Designwise, as a designer, that car is out of this world crazy. A designer in a studio would be told to scale back on the shapes and focus more on simplicity in the real world, but obviously this was made for a “new world” where one of a kind cars make a person. It’s a stunning car IMO, and they’ve made it come out great. However, the front is ungainly with it’s bubbly shape.

I’d drive one no doubt. Imagine taking a girl on a date in it… she’d have an orgasm just driving down the highway at night…

Gary
Feb 25, 2009 at 2:28 pm

I think this car looks great, all it needs are some wings and missles and you are ready fo war or waterproof it and swim with some hammerhead sharks. But in all honesty this car looks cool considering the engeneers were probably on shrooms or acid, give them some credit.

Oh man….that thing is freekin ugly, and only for a half mil!

Zach
Feb 25, 2009 at 2:14 pm

I think it’s pretty cool. If you’re into flying jet fighters on public roads. Looks like a pretty gnarly blind spot in the second to last picture.

nes
Feb 25, 2009 at 1:57 pm

I would get one! And I don’t care about the back passenger. I would put an ejection seat in case they bitch too much.

Brett
Feb 25, 2009 at 1:55 pm

Designing mistake X100,000

TJ
Feb 25, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Interesting, but I its a little too much for me. Don’t get me wrong, I just think its a little too unique, I’d take a Koenisegg CCX instead.

Mike
Feb 25, 2009 at 1:37 pm

I think it looks sick! I would love one, but hell no I wouldn’t pay 500,000 grand for it! Bring a person that has never seen an Ariel Atom or this thing and they won’t know the difference, besides the 700 bhp motor of course! But it ain’t worth the sticker price if you ask me. Unless I see this thing running side-by-side a champ car, I ain’t impressed.

Jeremy
Feb 25, 2009 at 1:24 pm

it looks sick and wrong. i kinda like it

Don
Feb 25, 2009 at 1:22 pm

Thats the Ariel Atom on serious ‘roids provided by Enzo~

Or the future of the Champ series~

Or a Romulan personal land craft….

If anything however…..it AIN’t ugly…..

I hope the boys on Top Gear profile this number just to see it in action….

And who cares about the whole passenger thing….this thing is built for the personal enjoyment of the driver only. Anyone else wont be able to see a thing, and probably crap thier pants with fear of mechanical failure or driver error…

On that note….sure…I’ll take two!

Allen
Feb 25, 2009 at 1:18 pm

now that is what i have been waiting for someone to make.

Josh
Feb 25, 2009 at 1:14 pm

That’s pretty awsome! Probably the closest to a street legal F1 indie car as anyone’s going to get. On the fighter jet comment, I’ll bet it’s got an ejector seat in there some where!

Well, it’s definitely not pretty, but I kinda like it. Looks like Batman’s F1 car.

Sorry, but I’ll be siding with Ben on this one, this is nasty ugly.

Brad Jolly
Feb 25, 2009 at 11:48 am

if it werent for those god awful side mirrors, i think it would look alright. it goes in the same category with the yamaha t-rex and the atom for me…its like the ugly duckling of the bunch though.

SouthernGuy8503
Feb 25, 2009 at 11:18 am

personally i think its ugly, its basically looks like a street legal verson of an F1 car, and imagine how cramped the back passenger is going to be in that back seat

Bob Balderston
Feb 25, 2009 at 10:31 am

in a certain point, it is kinda cool; closest thing one can get to a jet plane on wheels; the drawbacks is 1) the british home builts are getting way out of hand, any one with a bit of fiber glass knowledge, access to motorcycle bits and parts, and one big honking mercedes motor, makes these suicide machines on wheels, for way way way too much money;
2)does mercedes warranty any of these beasts, motorwise?if so, they could just sell motors to the swill drinking, bogg dwellers and be done with it

i_luv_dusty
Feb 25, 2009 at 9:54 am

It looks like it should transform into a giant mecha.
