Mopars on the Beach 1989 to 1992

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Last week FuryPaul sent me a PM to let me know he’d uploaded a bunch of old car show photos to his Flickr account. I really liked these shots from Mayo Beach taken between 1989 and 1992.

Now, after the jump I have a bunch of pics of Mopar convertibles that I selected from FuryPaul’s Mayo Beach collection, and I’ve placed them in new gallery format that we are toying with. You’ll be able to click to see bigger versions of each photo. So I’m looking for some feedback here. What do you think of this new gallery format vs. the gallery format in our Events section? Cause we’re thinking of making some changes this year. This may simply be an interim solution before we roll out something really cool, but still, we’d like to hear your input. Thanks!

Nostalgic Toyota Goodness

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

And now for some more Toyota-themed material from my photo archive. This time let’s take a look at Toyotas from the late 1950s through the mid ’70s – a period which saw Toyota lift itself out of Japan’s tough post war period and begin down the path to global domination. From the car geek’s perspective, there are some fine Toyota machines from this period, ranging from slammed Crown wagons to period-correct Celica race cars. Living in Japan, I’ve been fortunate enough to see a lot of these cars first hand and have built up a pretty nice collection of vintage Toyota photos. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Vintage Swamp Buggy Racing Action

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

We’re unabashed fan boys of Steve Evans and we’ve made that point well known. The man rocked, and outside of the NHRA coverage, his best work was done covering the unique vehicles and, umm, unique competitors who raced Swamp Buggies every year down in Naples, Florida.

This is video from the 1980s with Evans and Brock Yates on the call and it includes all the legends from the sport that helped bring it to some bizarre level of national prominence.

This video is nearly 10 minutes and every second of it is entertaining. Put on your rain gear and get ready to dodge flying muck!

Bullrun Season II First Impressions

By Mike Musto

RideLust.com

It’s been two years since the first season of Bullrun aired on Spike TV. It was met with mixed emotions by car enthusiasts. Some thought it was kind of goofy for a car show. Others, however, loved it. I have a soft spot for it because, well… I was on it. From an experience standpoint, it was probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. From seeing parts of the country that I never dreamed of, to doing things to my car that I NEVER thought I would do, to simply experiencing how a big budget TV show is made. All of it was a great experience.

I just finished watching the first episode of the new season on Speed TV and it looks as though some things changed for the better and some for the worse. First off, there’s WWE superstar and Bullrun host Bill Goldberg. In Season 1 of the show I think everyone felt that Bill was WAY under-utilized. He just didn’t have enough participation in the show and with the cast. This season it seems as though he’s more involved in the action, which is a really good thing. Bill is a no BS guy who just tells it like it is. If you screw up, he’ll tell you. If he doesn’t like you, he’ll tell you. And if he REALLY doesn’t like you, well, then you’d better move far away.

Favorite Automobile Spokesperson: Chrysler's Corinthian Leather Front Man, Ricardo Montalbán

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Welcome to the second installment of Your Favorite Automobile Spokesperson, here on CarDomain. After featuring the irreverent Joe Isuzu, I thought I would reach back to a person that simply oozes class. His career spanned over fifty years, and he was the front man for one of the most memorable automobile ad campaigns ever. Introducing the late, great, Ricardo Montalbán.

This is part two of my Japanese supercar series. Last time we checked out the Honda NSX, which captured the hearts and souls of many enthusiasts. Today we’re going to look at not the GT-R in general, but the rarest of the first new generations of GT-Rs: the R32 GT-R N1.

Goodbye Saturn

By Bob Balderston

Bob Balderston

Well, our friends at GM finally sent out the word, via e-mail, that the lifeline to the ship Saturn is about to be pulled, and that no further models are to be had, at least from the GM product lines. We all knew this was coming. Short of the Sky, Saturn was pretty much a dead player in the marketplace. The only saving grace was the dealer network and their way of selling cars. In years to come, when MBAs are studying failure models in classes taught by bitter professors who own these quirky cars, the reasons why GM came to this crossroads, and why they let them go so long, may finally be understood. God speed Saturn, we barely knew ya.

Quick Spin in the Lancer GTS

By Ryan Porter

IN-N-OUT Editor

Yesterday Rob handed over the keys to the Mitsubishi Lancer GTS and said, “You’ve got 15 minutes go drive it.”  With the small allotment of time, I was pretty much pinned to the South Lake Union area, so I figured I would hit my normal chicane up to 99, blast across the bridge and dip back through Fremont.

Check out my quick review after the jump, and here is a pic of me getting slideways… jk the car is front wheel drive!
