Massive Movie-Car Countdown on Screen Junkies
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor-at-Large
Fast & Furious is opening this week–woohoo, you heard it here first!–and to help whip moviegoers into a car-crazy frenzy, Screen Junkies has put together this encyclopedic post covering (in detail) what they consider to be the top 40 movie cars of all time. Expect the usual suspects: Christine, Bullitt’s Mustang, and Doc Brown’s DeLorean all made the top ten. But there’s also a few rides that you probably haven’t thought about in awhile. Cameron’s dad’s ‘61 Ferrari 250 GT, which met such a violent and terrible end (beaten up by an angst-ridden rich kid, then run through a plate glass window into a ravine? Ugh). Louise’s ‘66 T-Bird convertible: hells yeah, “the best car for an Arkansas waitress and housewife to conspicuously flee the authorities after shooting a rapist.” And does anyone remember this crazy-painted bulletnose Stude from The Muppet Movie? Check out the full article here, and let us know if any of your faves didn’t make the list.

2009 Cobra Jet Mustang on eBay
By Brian Lohnes
BANGshift.com
Well that didn’t take long. 2009 Cobra Jet Mustang number 26 is up for sale on eBay for a starting bid of $100,000. The car is being sold by an Ohio exotic car dealer and we’re keenly interested to see where this auction ends up. Hopefully it goes to someone who will actually race it instead of putting it in a hermetically sealed bubble somewhere.
These cars are runners, as John Calvert proved when he won Stock Eliminator at the 2009 NHRA Winternationals. To our knowledge this is the first one of the cars to hit the public auction block, unless you count the prototype sold at Barrett-Jackson.
Hardcore Ford fanatics have to be monitoring this auction with bated breath. We have few doubts that the car will be sold. The only question is how much?
Sweet Valve Cover Treatment

Juan has a ton of photos of his Sentra SE-R parked in front of grafitti all over Miami–and that alone makes his ride page worth checking out. But the real gem of the page, I thought, was this shot his finished valve cover, done up with a Rising Sun in zombie colors. Nice work!

Would You Buy a Saab Convertible From a Pick-n-Pull?

What The? Nissan GT-R 18,000 mile service = $2,000??
By Jen Dunnaway

Two THOUSAND dollars? Splutter! I could buy a whole car for that. The culprit, as Edmunds Inside Line discovered when they took their GT-R test car in for its routine service, turns out to be obscenely overpriced GT-R-specific ATF and differential fluid. How about $114 a quart for that tranny juice? And the beast takes 8 quarts. Talk about snake oil–and I thought that splurging for a few bucks worth of Water Wetter or octane boost was a frivolous indulgence. So much for our bargain supercar! How about this: first CarDomain member willing to void the warranty by running regular house-brand transmission fluid in their new GT-R, we’ll send you a case of the stuff for free.

Do You Have a Collection? And Does it Have a Theme?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
We were talking about this today in the office. How many cars do you need to own for it to be considered a collection? And does a collection need to have a theme? After a fair amount of deliberation, we decided that three vehicles could be considered a collection, provided they are thematically unified. In other words, my Volvo, Subaru and Mopar cannot be considered a collection. However, Jen’s 80s orphans (pictured below, minus the Eagle) can be considered a collection. And we decided that if you have six or more cars, the need for a single unifying theme becomes less stringent. So what do you think? Are we onto something here or are we on glue?

They Still Make MG Parts?
Grassroots Motorsports
Those of us raised on Hondas, Subarus and Mustangs may not remember a time when buying a sporty car meant looking toward England. Go back to the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, and MG, Triumph and Austin-Healey sent a huge number of fun, inexpensive sports cars our way.
While you could say the run pretty much ended around 1980, there’s still a ton of these cars on the road. This weekend I’ll be at the British Motor Trade Conference meeting with shop owners, parts manufacturers and others who still cater to this market. And if the brands I mentioned sound totally foreign to you, one day you need to sample an MGA. As a Miata owner, I concede that it might be the best roadster ever.

iForged Turbo LED Conversion Part II
By Ryan Porter

Last week I shared Vincent’s Porsche Turbo getting the 997.2 LED taillight conversion and the number one response was to fix the gap in the bumper. Look at this car–do you really think he wasn’t all in on this thing? Check out the bodywork that will help finish off the sick taillight conversion.
Steam Power!
Bick66
Well, due to its impracticalities I’m sure you won’t be seeing one of these on the showroom floor any time soon–nor will it be the next cure-all solution to the energy crisis. However, I was very interested to see what this group of British builders is doing in their attempt to break the steam-car speed record. The current “official” steam-powered speed record was set in 1906 by Fred Marriott who achieved a top speed of 127.659 MPH, and for a brief few years this was the overall world speed record until it was broken by a gas-powered Benz in 1910. This 25 ft steam-powered car generates a healthy 360 horsepower but literally guzzles a ton of water every 20 minutes. Although last week’s Thorney Island test was unsuccessful due to an electrical malfunction, the British team plans to bring their steam-car stateside this August where they will attempt to smash the century-old record with expected speeds of over 170 MPH.

5.0L Volvo 240 on Craigslist
By Jen Dunnaway

In our ongoing quest to find Ryan a Fremont car, Rob ran across this Mustang-powered Volvo wagon on Craigslist. It’s got some cool suspension goodies from IPD, the company in Oregon that does performance aftermarket for Volvos. It’s also running Flowmasters, so I doubt you’d be able to pass it off as a stock 240 with an exhaust leak. That and the badging kind of give it away, but it’s still running the grandpa automatic. Sleeper indeed! Pics and ad after the jump.
To Wrap or to Coat, That Is The Question
By David Clarke

I’m putting headers on my ‘84 Caprice pretty soon. I bought them from a friend last summer who never installed them, but did decide to give them a rattle-can paint job. Not liking the finish from the spraycan, I sanded them meticulously until they were clean. Left with bare headers, I asked myself: what now–to wrap or to paint? Separated at Birth: G4KC & SR20DET
By Steve Neill

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been labeled as the Nissan Silvia of the 21st Century. A High tech, RWD, low cost, high performance sports coupe with enough power to be labeled a real great car. That’s why I was surprised to find this picture of a G4KC (Genesis Coupe) Engine with a striking similarity to a Redtop Nissan Silvia SR20DET. Seperated at birth? You tell me.
The only visual difference I can see is that the Genesis has the manifold on the other side, where as the Silvia SR motor has a removable top cover for easy access to the spark plugs, etc. It’s astonishing how much they’re alike, and I have to say, it’s quite impressive.

Beautiful 1940 Ford DeLuxe Coupe, Caught by the Hudson River
By Jim Brennan
aka UDMan
My job has me traveling all over New England and Upstate New York all the time. I normally put on at least a thousand miles a week in my company car–a dishwater-dull Nissan Altima 2.5 S–but I rarely complain. With spring approaching here in the Northeast, and with temperatures finally warming up, there are some notable sights that I come across–and here is one of them, a 1940 Ford DeLuxe Business Coupe.
