March Military Campaign: Antarctica, 1962 and 1963

Mike Eldred to the rescue again! He provided us with the LARC-60 photos, and then the other day he surprised us with this selection of photos from his father’s time in Antarctica.
Here’s a group of photos taken by my father, David Eldred, at McMurdo Base, Antarctica, in 1962 and 1963 during two successive “Operation Deep Freeze” missions. At the time, he was stationed on a Coast Guard icebreaker, the USCGC Eastwind.

I think those get like 2-4 gallons per mile. Still would be fun to drive once.

one of those trucks would be bad ass to just drive once, i wouldn’t want to get out, they’d have to make me get out, probably at gun point lol
