What Did You Do This Weekend?

By Weston Henderson

Weston Henderson

My week was jam-packed with car stuff. Lets see, where do I begin? Saturday morning Ryan and I washed our cars and met up at Griot’s Garage Company in Fife, Washington for a tour of their facility. Just so happened that we rolled in during the “Italian Cars” group tour and spotted this ultra-hot Alfa Romeo. More…

Took a tour of the facility then got a chance to shuttle over to the personal home garage of the owner, Mr. Griots. Look out for a separate post about this visit later in the week, but for now here’s a little sneak preview.

Sunday I installed a new K&N intake on my GTI and went to a VW-and-Euro GTG at The University of Washington. Stay tuned for another posting about the intake install.

I think I’m just coming out of my car induced coma and it’s 11:40 on Monday morning…

How about you–what did you do this weekend?

I love Griot’s! Their stuff is the bomb and the shop is super nice and friendly. It is also a great place to have a demo of how to really clean your car.

Worked Saturday and talked to a guy about a car. Went and looked at it yesterday. Ended up buying it today. So now I have a new project, a 1991 Honda Prelude Si with a broken cam. It’s a clean car in good shape so it’s worth putting some money into it. Maybe then I can save some miles on the Eldorado.

Not really weekend, but last week, I tried to take the lady out to lunch last Tuesday, and I got a horrible vibration from the front end when I tried to accelerate onto the highway. The next day, I brought it into the shop, and found one of the CV boots had come off and lost all its grease. Since the car has 160k on it, I figured replacing both axles wouldn’t be too bad of an idea. I ordered both axles, got them near the end of the day, slapped them in as fast as I could, and drove off, no more vibration. Halfway home, My car started slipping into neutral. I pulled over and saw a huge puddle of trans fluid under the car. I called AAA, and had it towed back to the shop. In my haste, I didn’t push the driver’s side axle into the trans all the way and it simply slid out. I took my time this time, making sure both axles were fully engaged, topped off the trans fluid and off I went. No more vibrations anymore, and luckily I didn’t smoke my transmission.

I installed my carbon fiber trunk lid uninstalled carbon fiber trunk lid installed carbon fiber hood, put my rims back on washed it and took it to the new middle school for some photos. Would have put the new headlights in if only they hadn’t just gotten here a week and a half after I ordered them.

I spent most of the weekend between working with my girlfriend on one of her car’s and cleaning the garage so I can get back to work on my convertible project. I was also wondering if spring is ever going to get here!
