Would Desperation Drive You To This?

By Chris Bicknell

With the current economic climate and unpredictable gas prices, fuel efficiency is on everyone’s mind. Although big SUVs and gas-burning muscle cars are still plentiful on our roads, smaller cars are becoming more common every day. I found this Tango from the Commuter Cars Corporation in the Home Depot parking lot yesterday and couldn’t help but think about how the way some of us view transportation is changing. This narrow electric road pod won’t haul much home from the hardware store but it does 0-60 in 4 seconds and you can park four of them in an average parking spot. It also runs a 12-second quarter mile and comes standard with a steel roll cage–and this one was a even little tricked out with a Momo wheel and one-behind-the-other Sparco seats.

Personally, I’m still attached to the idea of having a vehicle you can haul a trailer with, and I’ll never retire my love for 60s American muscle. However, if you pay attention to how many empty seats there are in the cars around you on the highway, you might wonder how much fuel we’re burning just to push unnecessary weight down the road. How about you? Could you ever see owning something like the Tango if the gas situation gets bad enough?

That thing is actually scary to look at, kinda like a porcelain doll, or like those infected guys on Will Smith’s “I Am Legend”…Just really thin, scary thing, I’m gonna go bundle myself up under a blanket now.

Hell no. I’d rather walk the 40km to and from town every day than drive something with less than 100hp. Seriously.

NOTHING, NOTHING could ever make me resort to getting into one of those things. Torture of any kind… NOTHING.

what a POS stupid idea. Might as well put whoever buys one out of his misery.

Fast as it is, I would be a little embarrassed to be owned by something that looks like that. Would I drive it, why not? I still have a hot rod so I don’t care what people think of my day to day transportation. I don’t think I would take any more crap for it then for driving a neon anyway.

Never. I don’t care how fast it is, i would feel totally emasculated driving around that little thing. It would be like having a hello kitty sticker plastered across my tailgate.

No, for fear I would be labeled “gay” by all my friends.

I would be afraid of sneezing while looking to the left for fear that I might tip the silly thing over. That is a bit too small for me.

0-60 in 4 sec. Sure why not, driving it would be interesting. Buying or owning one on the other hand…

Wow! Just some facts. According to the manufacturer website this T-600 cost $108000. Yes, I did not add extra 0. It is $108K!
And on top of that it is sold as a kit and you will need a day to assemble it.

Question in the title should be not “Would Desperation Drive You To This?”, but “Would you drive this or Tesla?”
