Cash For Clunkers Is Coming Again In California

By Brian Lohnes

BANGshift.com

Talk about the thing that wouldn’t die. The recurring nightmare known unofficially as the “Cash for Clunkers” program to get old cars off the road is going to be reintroduced by CARB again soon.

Yes, this time it is California specific, but again, once these programs get a toehold it’s time look out, because we’re headed down the slippery slope. This is an “enhanced” plan that is even more evil than the last one as cars are no longer required to fail a smog or emissions check to be eligible. That means that anyone who wants some quick cash for their old car could turn it in no questions asked. At least before, the car had to be running like crap for you to be able to ditch it.

California is in probably the worst financial shape of any state in the country. It’s a recognized freaking disaster, yet they are still clamoring to spend the money of the tax paying citizens to buy other people’s old cars.

What a country.  Start writing SEMA and hit the link here to read more about this junk.

This bill would put every charity car donation program in the nation out of business since the amount of the voucher would be much greater than the tax deduction. The solution is to simply allow the charity to issue the voucher in lieu of the tax deduction. The charity would then junk the car in accordance with the bill. This way, everyone wins, the car dealer, car maker, car buyer and the charity.

Heres an idea, how about instead of this stupid cash for clunkers bill send the money to build recycling plants for all the junkyard cars to get rid of a lot of eyesores and create jobs in the process. DUH!

They haven’t even given most of us Californians our tax rebate checks yet. I doubt they will be able to pull this off soon.

I suppose before long, they will be forcing us to junk our old hot rods too. I have a 66 Mustang vert and a 1992 Dodge Spirit R/T. There is no way I’d trade in either for a Prius or Civic. I have more value in my Stangs steering wheel then some people have in thier entire car!!! I swapped out the wheel for a woodgrain Shelby version.

My car is 12 years old and has always passed smog testing. They will never get me to get rid of the car for some quick cash!

As far as legislature goes it seems like nothing but crap comes out of California. They suck.

It really seems like a waste of resources to scrap a car that is still working OK. I know many cars that are 10 years old that run fine and that would pass smoog tests.

I wonder how much energy and pollution it actually takes to recycle a car?
