What Car Did You Ride Home From The Hospital In?
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
At one time, every one of us was a tiny, red-faced, screaming baloney loaf. And assuming that most of us were born in hospitals, there was some point at which we each took our first ride–in the car that brought us home. And what a scam that we can’t remember it! Rob made his way out of the maternity ward in a ’63 Coupe DeVilleĀ just like this one, which is probably why he went all mushball last week over the “fuzzy bunny” in the backseat. Ryan came home in a Vanagon, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was born in it too. Weston claims to have cruised to his new digs in a low, all-black ’40′s Studebaker with tommy guns on it–yeah right. I took my first ride in either my dad’s ’66 Fairlane or his ’62 T-Bird convertible–I can’t get ahold of either mom or dad right now to confirm which.
How about you? What car did you ride home in, and is it still in the family?

1968 “Oean-Mist” colored (teal greenish/blue) Oldsmobile Toronado, March of 1970.
VIN# 394878M604846. So this was unit number 4,846 off the production line in Lansing, MI, back in Oct. of 1967.
Bucket seat No console set-up, was ordered with the W-34, but did not come through.

1991 Afla Romeo 164. It broke down on the way back, so my dad went and got his 1987 911 Turbo. He was clocked at 120mph when coming home. lol

I think it was an AMC Javelin or an AMX. It was a metallic purplish pink. I have pictures of it when I was a baby but the car was gone before I had memory of it, I don’t know what happened to it.

Just checked with my mom and she said it was a Maverick she brought me home in.
My daughter wasn’t as lucky. We brought her home in a Honda Accord.

1991 Mercury Cougar XR7. Transmission started going out of it, so my mother traded it for a purple 1994 Camaro.
Either that, or a ’91 Cutlass Cruiser. I REALLY hope it was the Cougar.

I heard back from my Dad today and he told me that I came home from the hospital in a 1972 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. The car was light blue with wood grain. My father was in the Army and decided to sell the car when he was moved from Ft. Lewis WA to WestPoint NY when I was 6 months old.

My parents brought me home in dad’s 1946 Plymouth Special Deluxe Coupe, it (THE CAR) was his pride and joy. I remember my mom talking about how she could have killed him for showing up at the hospital in that “old jalopy” when they had a new 1959 Caddy sitting in the driveway……lol….the coupe always got the garage!

old white crown vic (don’t know the year, but the body style before the latest one). They sold it to buy a dodge minivan when i was like 5. Worst vehicle my parents have ever owned, and the reason why my dad will never again buy a chrysler haha.

Right before I was born my dad traded in his ’70 Barracuda for a used Plymouth Fury. They never told me about it but I probably was brought home in that Fury. I did not find out about that Barracuda until I was in college (and boy am I mad that he traded it in).
