Is the ZJ Grand Cherokee a Ripoff of Giugiaro's Panda?
By Rob Einaudi

Just look at this early ’80s Fiat Panda designed by Giugiaro and then look at Dan’s new ’94 Laredo and tell me that Jeep wasn’t influenced by the little Italian.

BullrunOldsRich, how could they have designed it in the 70′s to replace the xj is the xj didn’t debut till ’84? The ZJ was to replace the Grand Waggy. =]

The panda look like a cross between the jeep and a 94 escort gt.

The ZJ was designed by AMC in the 70′s as a replacement to the XJ. AMC fell in the hard times and the XJ was selling well so it was put on the shelves until Chrysler took ownership. Then once again it was to replace the venerable XJ, but since the XJ was selling so well they decided to bring both to the market.
The ZJ has nothing to do with that little Italian piece of junk, it is a direct modernization of the XJ, which was influenced by VW golf (one of the world’s best selling cars at the time) and Renault’s cars.
