What Car Do You Regret Selling?
Bick66
Last night I sat down to make a list of all the vehicles I’ve owned, and I found the number had grown to 17. And of course, since I don’t have unlimited space, I’ve sold a few along the way. The reasons for letting each one go are varied, and it’s not like I regret the loss of every vehicle I ever posted on Craigslist or put in the Auto Trader. But there’s a few, like my ’75 Firebird, that I still dream about on a daily basis. Unless you’re like Jen, who still owns every car she ever bought, you’ve probably had a car or two get away from you as well. What car do you regret selling, and why’d you give it up in the first place?

Follow the jump to see some more of the cars that got away from me.

I regret selling my 2003 VW GTI 20th AE #3823, this car is very hard to find and you don’t see them on the road. I did buy another one, but I had to search and search and ship it from New York to Texas. I won’t make that mistake again, I’ll never sell my 2nd GTI, unless it gets totaled!! (I’ll still probably buy it from the insurance if it’s fixable)

My ’75 will never be sold.
I don’t want to sell my camry, but the insurance for both makes me pay out the ass, so I may just stick with Ramen noodles for dinner everyday….

Artie, my 99 Dakota R/T. Sold it 1/1/07 and almost cried. I sold it thinking about how much work it needed and how I’d be better served with the cash than bug-filled truck.
Happy ending: I just bought a 2000 Dakota R/T. Not built like Artie was, but it brings back some good memories. Welcome, Artie 2.
…
Sold Artie with ~60,000 miles for $4,500.
Bought Artie 2 with 44,000 miles for $5,600.

well the truck i have now is on’y the 2nd truck i’ve had, my first one i had i bought when i was 17 the year before my senior year, it was a midnight blue 86 chevy C10 custom deluxe regular cab long bed 2wd with a 5.0L 305 and a manual transmission, it wasn’t a regular transmission, it had an extra low gear in it, lower than 1st, me and other people call it the granny gear, the body was mostly in good shape, no rust except a little surface rust hear and there and it had a couple bad body fixes that someone tried to fix a couple dents on the bed but they did a really bad job on it, felt more like waves in the ocean than the side of a truck bed, it ran really good even though it had well over 200,000 miles on it when i got it, didn’t give me any major problems, just typical things a 16 yea rold truck would have, biggest thing i had to replace was the clutch assembly, the engine was a little weak feeling, also it was the most basic truck, didn’t even come with factory A/C, i drive with the windows down when its hot or warm anyways so that wasn’t a big deal, just sucked when it started to rain real hard lol, the interior was in terrible shape, but i still loved the truck, it was my first truck of my own and i learned how to drive a stickshift on it, i sold it after getting the truck i have now, i had started to make plans for it but i just wanted a chevy 4×4 Z71 after high school so thats what i bought and then sold the 86 chevy, i regret it because i did have a few plans for it and it would be nice having a 2nd truck around especially since my old truck was long bed and the truck i got now is regular bed

Oh I have some favorites I wish I had kept:
1. 79 Mustang 351W (Buyer stripped it and junked its perfect body!)
2. 88 Cougar LS 5.0 (Buyer wrecked it)
3. 97 Taurus SHO (buyer wrecked it)
I’m not making that mistake again, people that buy my cars murder them shortly after buying them. That pains me to see a car I loved die.

my ’67 Chevy c10 big window SFS bed truck… It was in excellent shape body wise, and mechanically for the most part. It was my high school ride… but like any 30+ year old vehicle, my dad got tired of working on it, so he offered me a deal: If I sold it and used the money for a down payment on a brand new Tacoma, (and kept making the payments) he’d foot the bill on insurance, just so that he wouldnt spend his weekends out in the shop. I kick myself in the ass everyday for that one.

The only car I ever sold was a ’95 Avenger that I smacked a telephone pole with. It was slow and heavy, but great in the snow, and before wreaking it I had big plans for it. After wreaking it, they got bigger, a V8 and RWD was planned, but I didn’t have the funds for it and my mom didn’t want to have a bunch of junk cars sitting around, including my dad’s ’87 Ram and ’91 Lebaron, and my Charger that I was working on. So she made me get rid of the Avenger, and eventually my dad had to get rid of his old truck, that I was going to fix and make my beater, and the Lebaron that I wanted to make a dirt tracker so I’d have something to race against my buddy’s subaru. Oh well, I can keep my toys when I get my own place.

I regret selling the 72 Swinger and 68 Dart I had. The swinger was fully loaded, and the 68 was as bare as they come, but I got them for next to nothing. I just wish I had kept them and fixed them up. Also the 3 70 Barracudas, but atleast I have 1 of those left.
