Which Looks Better? The 2005 or 2010 Mustang?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
The 2010 Mustang didn’t do so well in our pony car poll on Tuesday. So I’m wondering, are people just sick of looking at Mustangs? Or did Ford screw up with their 2010 refresh? Or both? Vote in our poll and then let us know your thoughts in the comments!

I like the 05-09’s better because they are older looking. The 10′ lost some of the retro look. The rear end is jacked up and the overall height of the car bugs me. It’s hard to describe, but one picture I saw with them side by side showed that the new body is much thicker from rocker to roof. By the way, Dodge struck out with the Challenger design in my opinion. It is way too heavy and they didn’t even offer a stick. This in itself tells me that it is not a true muscle car. The 05′ Mustangs are faster than the 09′ Challenger. That’s embarrassing. It’s just a bunch of hype. The same will happen when the Camaro is released and the Mustang will have to put it in it’s place at the back of the line again.

Also the whole thing with the rear end of the 2010, have any of you seen one in person? Really when you see it in person it’s not bad at all.

I agree with Tcassa and WilliamPanik.

The 2010’s grill area looks like a cross between the new Challenger and Camaro. It’s getting narrow and sharp edged.

the ‘99 beetle wasn’t retro, it was a restyle, the ‘98 beetles were pretty much the same as since they started making them

I like the 2010 Front end and the 2005 tail lights. And about the whole going retro thing, well we could take it from the top. VW I think was the first with the ‘99 Beetle followed by Mopar with the Prowler and PT Cruiser, then Ford ran away with it with the ‘02 T-bird, Ford GT, and the Mustang of course. Chevy meanwhile developed the HHR the SSR, and I almost forgot that we also got a new Mini Cooper shipped in from across the pond. I hope the retro trend goes on for quite awhile. I like seeing everyone try to out do each other.

2010 FTW!!! I just love the new grill/headlights! Those fog lights on the ‘05 are too much for me.

william – your right about ford goin retro again, but if you remember GM released the GTO way before 05, i believe it was in 01 or 02, so im thinking if GM hadn’t of tried bring back an old msucle car then ford probably wouldn’t have had the idea to go with the old muscle car look with the mustang, but don’t get me wrong i like the look of the mustangs, and the 10 model looks better than the 05, even though its basically the same but it has a little smoother look

I really like what Tcassa had to say. The hype for the ‘05 Mustang was unparalleled by any other car since the ‘64. And while the 2010 isn’t too big a deal to the non-Mustang crowd as the Camaro and Challenger, let them be reminded of something.. If Ford hadn’t gone through their retro stage and done the 2005 Mustang redesign, these Mopar and bowtie fans wouldn’t have their new toys in the first place..

The ‘10 has a muck more aggressive look, while I do like the ‘05 the ‘05 looks too tame, so I will have to go with the ‘10. In my opinion though the Mustang especially the ‘10 isn’t given the respect it should be given.

It looks nice, not a whole lot different though. Lines are a little cleaner and the hood is a nice addition. Looks good to me, I’d still rather buy a Camaro or a Challenger lol

I’m happy to see the 2010 Mustang there were a few niggles I was hung up on for a bit but I soon got over that. I’m just happy to see the sequential taillights making a return.

05 was a nice update of the mustang, 10 is just a nice update of the 05…at least it is getting better instead of worse – like half of ford’s other cars

I must be in the minority, ’cause I voted for the ‘05. It’d be a different story if the rear end of the ‘10 wasn’t so outta place with the rest of the car.

In my opinion, Ford didn’t ’screw-up’ the 10 Mustang at all. I love the new look and presence of the updated ‘Stang, infact I like it more then the 05 model. But with the 05 model came hype and hysteria that hasn’t been seen since its original launch in 64. The 05 model was a break-through in design, it rekindled the passion and love-affair for the Mustang again. Mustang lost their way for many years, but this car has brought it back, and the 10 model is continuing that passion.
