The Games We Grew Up On
By Steve Neill
Steve Neill
After what seemed like a long night of sleep, this morning I found myself sitting in front of the computer, trying to figure out what to play next on my iTunes. I came across Kool and the Gang’s “Summer Madness,” a tune that brings me back to a time when everything was much more carefree, much more fun, and a lot more lazy: my early teenage years of video gaming.

Doodlebugging
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Whenever I start to worry that my junk car habit is getting out of control, all I have to do is ask my ex in NY what he’s working on. Some of the cars he drags home–they can make a pile of dinosaur bones look roadworthy. This weekend he sent me some pics of his latest acquisition: a Ford Model A doodlebug that was thrown in free with a bunch of Model A parts he bought off Craigslist. He’s super stoked about it–he tells me a doodlebug refers to a Model A or similar car that’s been cut at the cowl and shortened. Apparently a lot of folks modded their cars this way during the Depression to serve as home-built tractors. Well, it’ll be pretty sweet if this one ever gets to the point where it can plow a field. I have faith! More pics below the jump.

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot – The 1963-65 Buick Riviera
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and to learn about different cars while doing so. Buick has been known as the car that many people bought if they wanted the luxury of a Cadillac without the ostentation. It was the consummate “Doctor’s Car,” if you will. Something happened to Buick during the late 50′s and early 60′s though–it took on a car that Cadillac rejected as being too radical for the brand, and created a new category. Let’s take a look at the beautiful 1963-65 Buick Riviera.

Fremont Day One
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
CarDomain successfully moved to freaky Fremont over the weekend, and so far we haven’t had any confrontations with the locals (though we almost had to get someone towed out of one of our parking spots). Weston has already set up the CarDomain lounge with an X-box and is in there playing Grand Theft Auto in his Snuggie. Jen and I spotted this sweet trash can toting Escort while we were out getting Vietnamese sandwiches across the street. Jen is pretty sure that it was painted with house paint. Anyway, so far so good. We’ll keep you posted.

What Did You Do This Weekend?
By Ryan Porter

While Rob and the rest of the CarDomain staff were moving offices this weekend, I shot down to Los Angeles for the smart Center Beverly Hills one year anniversary. The event was a blast and there were about 90 or so cars. We drove some of the best roads in SoCal and ended the event at the Petersen Museum with a short banquet and raffle–more pics below the jump!

L.E.D. Headlights for Passenger Cars
Bob Balderston
For those among us not yet ready to give up the older cars and trucks, Truck-Lite, an aftermarket lighting company which primarily markets to the heavy duty and commercial truck segment, has announced 7″ D.O.T.-certified L.E.D. headlights for the standard 7″ headlight applications. This would allow you to put L.E.D. headlights in a lot of older cars without the H.I.D. light prices, and the light is far closer to real white than most halogens on the market today. They are expected to outlast regular halogen headlights, which have an average lifetime of 1,200 hours, by as much as 50 times. Retail pricing has not been announced yet, but is expected to be pretty reasonable. Check out the Truck-Lite website for more.

Motor Trend Comparo: Camaro SS vs. Challenger R/T vs. Mustang GT
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Motor Trend just published the first 2010 pony car comparison I’ve seen. So how’d they stack up?
1. Chevrolet Camaro SS
2. Ford Mustang GT
3. Dodge Challenger R/T
From the article:
Considering all the ways GM could easily have got this car wrong, it’s nothing short of a triumph how unquestionably the company got it right. The Camaro might trail the Mustang in handling sharpness, and there’s no doubt it finishes last for cabin and trunk volume, but, well, you don’t pick your pony for the size of its saddlebags. Graced with massive power, excellent efficiency, unfailing refinement, and show-stopping looks, the Camaro SS nails every essential for its segment.
