Return of the RWD Celica?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
The latest in the saga of the RWD Toyota/Subaru coupe is that it will hit showrooms in 2010 as a Celica. Pretty cool, and it makes a lot of sense, but given all the abrupt shifts in this story line, I’ll believe it when I see it. Via Jalopnik

I’m loving this pic of a new Challenger getting pulled over by an authentic NHP 440-powered ’78 Fury cruiser outside of Vegas. It takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar! Thanks to Jeff Herman for the pic!

The HKS Collection, Japan
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
Do you ever find yourself wondering what happens to a company’s race cars and tuner cars after their services are no longer needed? Sometimes they will wind up in the hands of private buyers (often overseas), in other cases they will be destroyed or dismantled, and every once in a while they’ll be preserved or displayed as part of the company’s heritage. In its 35+ years of existence, HKS has built dozens of these historic competition and street vehicles, and a number of them are kept on display in a special room at the sprawling HKS factory in Fujinomiya City, Japan.

Want to be a stunt driver? Then sign up for a class with the International Film Precision Drivers and Instructors. Learn everything from “slide parking in the box” to driving on two wheels to jumps. These skills might be more practical in everyday driving than anything you’d learn at Bondurant. Full article in the New York Times.

Monday Time Killer: Pontiac Heaven
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Steve Barcak is a self-described Pontiac extremist and his website certainly lives up that claim. This is truly a slice of internet heaven for fans of GM’s “excitement” brand, even though it seems to be on the ropes these days.
Barcak does not just talk the talk, as the guy runs a nostalgia Fuel dragster with a blown Poncho motor in it, owns a couple sets of the near mythical Mickey Thompson Pontiac Hemi heads, and seems to own more cars than a certain magazine guy we know.
Hit this site and you’ll be looking at a myriad of photos, checking out projects, and seeing the inner workings of a dude thoroughly obsessed with Pontiacs. There’s nothing wrong with that in our book. It’s a perfect way to kill a Monday morning.

Tight parking spaces? No problem. Check out what people are coming up with in other parts of the world to avoid buying Smart cars. I bet it’d work great for moving non-running vehicles around the garage too!
Where Will Gas Prices Be On The 4th Of July?
By David Clarke
highspeedhijinks
If you listened to all the jokers who speculated on oil futures last August, you would’ve thought that we would be in the $5.50/gal range for gas by now. Thank goodness they got it wrong. It was partly because of them that gas soared to record highs last summer, adding credence to the old folk wisdom that if you say it enough times, it’ll come true. Well, I’m hoping to bank on that kind of thinking. Right now the national average (according to gasbuddy.com, my source for all things fuel-related) is at $1.93 per gallon. Give us your prediction on what gas will be on July 4th, 2009, and we’ll see who guesses closest to the actual national average. Closest guess gets CarDomain swag! Follow the jump for the rules of the game. Continue reading "Where Will Gas Prices Be On The 4th Of July?" »

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: The Ford Galaxie 500 7 Litre
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and do I really have to come up with a new witticism every time I run this introduction? Moving on. It was the Autumn of 1965, and at that time Pontiac’s hot-selling GTO heavily influenced the performance car market. Intermediate-sized cars with big-block power were the hot ticket. Ford was about to introduce the 390 powered Fairlane GT and GTA, which was thoroughly re-designed, to satisfy that slice of the market. However, Ford was also about to introduce a new full-sized bruiser for the 1966 model year. Let’s take a look at the Ford’s full-size muscle, the Galaxie 500 7 Litre.
