Dead Guy Takes Final Lap During His Final Ride
By Jen Dunnaway

Race fan Michael Owen, who once relocated so he could qualify for season tickets at Brands Hatch raceway in the UK, took a final lap around his beloved home track last week–in a hearse. Yep, the dead guy had arranged to have his cavalcade lap the track during his funeral procession. That’s nice and everything, but I guess it goes without saying that some things are better enjoyed alive. Read all about it here.

Where Did Car Songs Go?
By David Clarke
highspeedhijinks
Back in the mid 50′s through the late 60′s, when rock and roll was in its infancy, singers like Jan and Dean, The Beach Boys, and Ronny and the Daytonas sang about how cool it was to own a fast car. Hell, the Beach Boys even sang about just the engine in their song called “409″. Go to any car show and your sure to hear other songs like: Little GTO, Little Nash Rambler, and my favorite, Hot Rod Lincoln by Charlie Ryan and the Timberline Riders. You’d be hard-pressed to hear anything that car-crazy come out of your radio now. Instead you only hear about cars in a single lyric or chorus line of a rap song like in “Get Like Me” by David Banner, in which he asks,” Have you ever seen a Chevy with the butterfly doors?” The only song about just a car I’ve heard recently was by the rapper known as Tum Tum. His song “Caprice Music” is not an artistic masterpiece, but at least it’s a start in the right direction. Oh and the car pictured below is the actual Model-A-bodied “Hot Rod Lincoln” 4 Star Records had built to promote the song. Now that’s cool!

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: The Ford LTD LX
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and to learn something new while doing so. Performance was seriously lacking during the first half of the 1980′s. With emphasis placed on ever more stringent environmental regulations on top of growing concerns about fuel economy, there seemed to be no place to turn if you wanted an affordable, fast, and fun car. That was all starting to change after 1982, when Ford dropped their 5.0L HO V8 under the hood of the then 4-year-old Mustang. Finally, a new car with that old V8 soundtrack, and it seemed like utopia during the dark days of the “Malaise” era. But something else was on the horizon at Ford. It took a requirement from the Bob Bondurant Racing School of High Performance Driving, and a couple of engineering mules, to produce an invisible performance car. Let’s take a look at a 4-door Mustang, the Ford LTD LX.

Flying Car First Flight: Terrafugia Takes Off
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
The human monkey will never cease to seek novel and exciting ways to propel its fragile organism through space, and the flying car has always been a sort of holy grail for those looking to combine the miracle of flight with commuter convenience. In practical reality, though, a lot of flying-car concepts through the years have just been plain goofy. Check out the Terrafugia, basically a folding-wing aircraft with a vaguely car-like body. The photo gallery accompanying the flying ride’s big launch is rife with images demonstrating how easily the Terrafugia fits into everyday life, how heartwarmingly suburban-normal it is. You know–filling up the Terrafugia at the corner gas station. Washing the Terrafugia with a bucket of suds in your driveway on a Sunday morning. Picking up the kids from soccer practice. See, consumers? There’s nothing to fear. Cute, but I’d take a levitating retractable-wheel DeLorean any day. Oh, but wait, the Terrafugia is “real.” Check out the first-flight video here, and read more at Jalopnik.

Everyone knows that the economy has fallen on hard times, but things must be really bad when even Wayne Industries is downsizing the Bat Fleet. One of the screwiest vehicles we brought you from last year’s SEMA show, the BatSmart designed by custom legend George Barris, is on the block over at eBay. Take a look!

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8: One Fast Box
By Mike Musto
RideLust.com
Through the years, I’ve driven all manner of Jeep. From the old 80′s Cherokee Chiefs and Wagoneers to the 90′s Sports and Wranglers to the new generation of Liberties and Patriots–I’ve put down a lot of miles in these things, and why not? They’re great vehicles. Hell, my brother has a 1999 Wrangler 5-speed with 152k on the clock and the thing has never missed a beat.
As you know, in the past few weeks I’ve sampled a few of Chrysler’s new hot rods like the Challenger R/T and SRT-8. So when they asked me if I would like to give the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 a try, there was no argument on my end. It rolled up to my driveway just as you see here–a big silver box with chrome wheels and a body kit. Hmmm, not really my cup of tea, but what the hell, it’s my job, so I grabbed the little key fob thingy and hit the road.
