Hot Grand-Am Racing Pics Now Live!
By Jen Dunnaway

Can you spot the new Challenger in this pack? Neither can we, but we know we’ve got some sweet close-ups of the track-tuned Mopar over in our Events section. It was a whole weekend of door-to-door racing at Miami-Homestead Speedway–the second- and third-closest finishes ever recorded went into the record books during Saturday and Sunday’s KONI Challenge races. Our buddies at Grand-Am Road Racing have hooked us up with some beautiful shots from the track and the pits. Check out the eye-popping on-track action over in Events!
1971 Challenger Convertible 440 Six Pack 4×4 For Sale
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
I’m told this has been on eBay before, but it was new to me. The Challenger is sitting on top of a 1978 Ramcharger. The work was done 20 years ago, before E-body prices went through the roof, but this was originally a 318 car. Pretty cool, huh? Winches front and rear are a nice touch. Only $69,000!!! More pics after the jump and you can see the for sale ad here. (Don’t you love it when sellers can’t spell convertible?)

GT-R Driver Fail
By Rob Einaudi

Watch what happens when then this GT-R tries to follow an EVO down a curvy mountain road at night. Further proof that more often than not it’s the driver, not the car, that makes the difference. Via Jalopnik
Ray Farhner's One-of-a-Kind Vintage Corvette
Bick66
After seeing this custom Corvette on The Jalopy Journal I was immediately intrigued by its beauty. There are a ton of pretty radical custom-bodied ‘Vettes in circulation, and more often than not the workmanship leaves me feeling sorry for the car, like that stretch C4 with suicide doors that sold on eBay awhile back. But this car, on the other hand, has a unique appeal plus a history that doesn’t compare to many of the dime-a-dozen customs. Now owned by the Petersen Museum, it once toured the country as a promo vehicle for custom builder Ray Farhner’s car show business. He bought the car almost new in 1963 for $950 following a high-speed wreck that all but demolished it, and rebuilt it from the ground up with this uniquely asymmetrical body. Though its unusual lines won’t do it for everyone, for me, this custom just works. More pics after the jump.

Cobra Cousin Aceca On eBay
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Here’s one for the tweed-cap set. A nice example of the AC Aceca, the closed-cockpit version of the AC Ace on which the Cobra was based, has turned up for sale on eBay. This one had the the Ford 289 conversion back in the 60′s, so it’s basically a Cobra–just one with a cute bubble-windowed hatchback. Different!

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: The 1968-70 Oldsmobile Toronado W-34
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and to expand conventional thinking while we’re at it. A few weeks ago, I ran a feature on the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, and asked whether or not a FWD, V8-powered car could ever be considered a muscle car. The overwhelming majority of you said NO, so this time, I thought I’d reach back to the 1968-through-1970 time period. This was the true peak of the classic muscle car era, rife with fire-breathing HEMIs, Ford Cobra Jets, and at least four different GM big blocks. Let me introduce you to a true full-size coupe–but one with over 400 hp driving the front wheels. I give you the Oldsmobile Toronado W-34.

What Car Did You Ride Home From The Hospital In?
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
At one time, every one of us was a tiny, red-faced, screaming baloney loaf. And assuming that most of us were born in hospitals, there was some point at which we each took our first ride–in the car that brought us home. And what a scam that we can’t remember it! Rob made his way out of the maternity ward in a ’63 Coupe DeVille just like this one, which is probably why he went all mushball last week over the “fuzzy bunny” in the backseat. Ryan came home in a Vanagon, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was born in it too. Weston claims to have cruised to his new digs in a low, all-black ’40′s Studebaker with tommy guns on it–yeah right. I took my first ride in either my dad’s ’66 Fairlane or his ’62 T-Bird convertible–I can’t get ahold of either mom or dad right now to confirm which.
How about you? What car did you ride home in, and is it still in the family?

Cash For Clunkers Is Coming Again In California
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Talk about the thing that wouldn’t die. The recurring nightmare known unofficially as the “Cash for Clunkers” program to get old cars off the road is going to be reintroduced by CARB again soon.
Yes, this time it is California specific, but again, once these programs get a toehold it’s time look out, because we’re headed down the slippery slope. This is an “enhanced” plan that is even more evil than the last one as cars are no longer required to fail a smog or emissions check to be eligible. That means that anyone who wants some quick cash for their old car could turn it in no questions asked. At least before, the car had to be running like crap for you to be able to ditch it.
California is in probably the worst financial shape of any state in the country. It’s a recognized freaking disaster, yet they are still clamoring to spend the money of the tax paying citizens to buy other people’s old cars.
What a country. Start writing SEMA and hit the link here to read more about this junk.
