What Did You Do This Weekend?

By Weston Henderson

Weston Henderson

My week was jam-packed with car stuff. Lets see, where do I begin? Saturday morning Ryan and I washed our cars and met up at Griot’s Garage Company in Fife, Washington for a tour of their facility. Just so happened that we rolled in during the “Italian Cars” group tour and spotted this ultra-hot Alfa Romeo. More…

Watch Out, LeMons!

By Katherine Helmetag

Just when you thought the 24 Hours of LeMons couldn’t get any weirder, you were wrong: I’m fielding a team for the Midwest run in 2009. We had our first meeting and buy-in yesterday to try to get ahead of the game. Our name is Team Doing Community Service and the car is MkI VW Jetta with the venerable JH 1.8 litre engine. A pretty bulletproof combo, and our top choice because we collectively own about three cars’ worth of parts for it. Clearly, we’ll be needing a new horn–I doubt the squeeze bulb under the dash will pass tech.

Trouble With The Wife?

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

Have a look at this ad that has been doing the rounds. I don’t know if it’s real, but it did put a smile on my face. It reminds me of numerous stories I have heard of people catching flak from their spouses for bringing home an impractical or “unauthorized” vehicle. Ever had this problem with your better half?

Cool Build: Stone Racing Time Attack Civic Type R

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

Not too many of us would consider an EP3 Civic Type R to be a competitive option in a Time Attack series, considering the likely opposition of Lancer Evolutions, Imprezas, Skyline GT-Rs etc. With “just” two liters of normally aspirated power going to the front wheels, the EP3 would already be at a disadvantage to the more powerful four wheel drive competitors. Unfortunately for this year’s Pro Class competitors in the Irish Time Attack series at Mondello Park, Stone Racing is planning a few upsets. Check out the build at Speedhunters!

Tire Slice'n'Dice

By Katherine Helmetag

Add this to the list of good reasons to roll your fenders when you lower your car. I saw this unusual tire wear on a set of take-offs from a car with a collapsed rear coil spring. Fortunately, the driver noticed it (how could you not notice your rear suspension collapsing?!?) and stopped driving before the fender completely sliced through the tire.

Total Tweaker Car

By Jen Dunnaway

I don’t know who to feel more sorry for: the 2nd-gen Camaro, or the C4 Corvette. It’s a Brundlefly-like merger that might’ve even been cool if it had been done right, though I’m not sure I even know what “right” would’ve looked like–the proportions of the two donor cars are just too fundamentally incompatible to make this Franken-marriage work. The result kind of reminds me of one of those freakishly overbred lap-dogs with the massive heads. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s riff, and if I were a more tactful person, I’d just chalk this up as a work-in-progress. But clearly, what happened here was that someone got way too high one night and decided to break out the blowtorch and the adhesive silver mylar. The gauge taped to the outside of the windshield is a nice touch. More grisly carnage and psychadelic fiberglass bodywork below the jump.

Ferrari Torn In Half, Claiming Life of MMA Star

By David Clarke

highspeedhijinks

We bring you guys lots of pictures involving wrecked cars, so it’s occasionally inevitable that one of those pictures will be attached to a tragic story. On Wednesday the 11th in the early morning hours, Charles “Mask” Lewis of MMA fame died when his Ferrari 360 struck a white Porsche. The impact was so hard that the Ferrari was split in two, ejecting his female passenger into the street. The Newport Ca. police department thinks the two cars were side by side when the accident occured, but are still unclear as to whether they were racing. The driver of the white Porsche and his female passenger did flee the scene, abandoning the car on a side street. They were later caught and the driver, Jeffery Kirby, is being held on drunk-driving charges with bail set at 2 million dollars. For more on the story click here.

2011 Plymouth Road Runner

By Rob Einaudi

Yeah, Plymouth is long gone, and who knows if Chrysler will be around in two years. But we can dream, right? I saw this rendering by Austrian artist Michael Leonhard in the new issue of Hot Rod. It’s not on his site yet, but I found it on his MySpace page. He did a Superbird, too. So what do you think? Hot or not?

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot – The 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and have some fun in the process. There was some very heated debate about the last Grand Prix I featured in this series, so how about another Pontiac? During the 80′s, the Muscle Car was in the early stages of making a comeback. NASCAR racing was also on the rise at this time, and there was a resurgence in NASCAR-inspired specials–while built for use on the street, they could double as track cars with little or no modification. One such car was the Monte Carlo Aero Coupe, and the other is the subject of this installment: the Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2.
