Cadillac VSR

The other day I blogged about this cool computer rendering of a 21st-century hot rod. Yeah well, screw renderings–this one’s real! This car was designed for SEMA by GM Performance Parts and Race Car Replicas, and unlike the last hot rod I drooled over, this one is packing a proper drivetrain. Under that long sleek bonnet lies a 6.0 liter (most likely the LS2) putting out a modest 400hp. In my opinion it doesn’t look as cool as the Delithium, but real beats rendered every time. Carbon Fiber Roll Cage
By Ben Schaffer
The Real JDM
While browsing through some European magazines at a local book store I came across a company called Oakley Design (no relation to Oakley sunglasses) who was advertising some innovative products for the Porsche 997. This was nearly a year ago that I saw their advertisement but something really caught my eye…it was a carbon fiber roll cage.
Now at this point I’m used to seeing carbon fiber wrapped roll bars, strut tower bars, etc. But the extent of carbon fiber on chassis-reinforcement bars that I’ve seen has been entirely cosmetic and simply hiding the metal underneath a carbon fiber skin. More…

Bullrun Episode 4: Team Evo Gone… Dart Dead?
By Mike Musto
RideLust.com
Wow, season II’s fourth episode really kicked it up a notch. We had yelling and screaming (VW guys at Evo), new rivalries (Avalanche vs. Solstice), cars being totaled (Evo & Dart), loads of obligatory explosions, and of course, Steve from Team Corvette. Not sure if everyone caught the “Behind the Scenes” moment where Steve made fun of Team Ferrari and if you didn’t it’s too bad ’cause this dude had me crackalackin’! Bravo Steve! We also saw a little sporting rivalry between Goldberg and Bear from Team Avalanche in regards to a Georgia shirt that Bill made him wear and that Bear eventually turned into an oil rag and tire cleaner.

The new Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA is pretty cool, but I still prefer the original.
Dump-Truck Wheelie Fail

Let’s say you’re a dump truck driver. Let’s say you’re in a hurry. Let’s say you forget that the dump body is up and you’re on the highway. Let’s say you probably don’t have a job anymore.
This photographic gem came to us from a local buddy. As you can tell by the signs, it happened in Connecticut. Pretty amazing that the sign and post held up as well as they did.
Imagine being the guy in the truck and having to radio this one into dispatch. We personally like the photo of the ladder truck with the ladder extended to fish out the driver. See the rest of the pics at BangShift.

Toyota Truck Recall Fiasco
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Tsk tsk, Toyota. According to this NBC report, the automaker is being sketchy about a defective steering relay rod–which connects the pitman arm to the steering center link, so yeah, kind of essential–on about a million of its light trucks and SUVs manufactured between 1989 and 1998. Apparently the rod has a tendency to snap while the vehicle is in motion, causing a total loss of steering and, likely, a catastrophic wreck. Though Toyota was aware of the problem, they dragged their feet about issuing a US recall, and deep-sixed incident reports involving relay rod failures. As is often the case, it took the death of someone’s kid and a big fat lawsuit to bring the whole thing to light. While Toyota eventually issued a recall, they were apparently pretty passive about it, and to date have only successfully brought 32 % of the affected vehicles in for repair. Factoring in those that have likely been wrecked or junked, that equates to roughly 500,000 Toyota trucks on US roads, right now, that are still running the defective part. Real nice, guys! It’s dark, but not too dark to tell there’s a lot of nice cars getting wrecked. Thanks to Brad Jolly for the tip on this one!

Check out the polished version of that on-set spy video we showed you last year. The GPS presence is kind of a goofy addition, but I guess that’s unavoidable nowadays. Enjoy!
