Basketcase Rescue: Robert's Civic Hatch
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
This basketcase rescue actually involves a whole bunch of cars that otherwise would likely have been junked. Robert started with a 300-dollar Civic that had been run into a fire hydrant. Then he picked up a VTEC and 5-speed for $200 from a friend who’d wrecked his own Honda. Then to fix the mangled front clip, he got forward sheetmetal off yet another Civic that a guy was parting out. Then he picked up a junk Integra for 200 bucks, changed his mind about the Civic’s nose, and is in the midst of swapping over the Integra’s front clip. When Robert’s ride is done, it’s going to be a great example of built-not-bought. Cool project! Don’t forget to check out his page.

The pic below is just a rendering, but Rob has done a ton of stuff to his 1998 GMC Sierra 4×4 shortbox extended cab. Check out his ride page and let him know what you think! He’s got more renderings on page 6.

ISMA Challenger on CarDomain!
By Rob Einaudi

I wrote a blog about this mean Mopar track car back in December of 2007. Well guess what? It’s on CarDomain now, entered into the 2009 Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge rating category! Somehow I have a feeling Glenn will get invited… Be sure to check out his ride page for a bunch of pics, and some awesome in-car video of the Challenger at VIR!

Incredible SHO
By Jen Dunnaway

The Ford Taurus SHO was a pretty cool sleeper car to begin with, but there’s nothing that’s inconspicuous about Ramon’s ’94. Check out his epic ride page (21 of them, actually), in which he documents the entire build. As usual, I’m a fan of the paint booth sequence on page 9 and 11. But the custom interior build and the engine compartment refresh are pretty cool, too.

So far I’ve driven most of the big guns in Chrysler’s SRT arsenal, but now they’ve surprised me with a little pocket rocket: The Caliber SRT-4. Check the blog early next week for a full review.

Fremont Day Five
By Ryan Porter

You guys are probably thinking that day five in the CarDomain Fremont headquarters is going to be all crazy and you know what, you’re kinda right. We’ve got tons of cool contests we’re working on, and we’ve got water leaking through the roof–some worker guy with a hose caught major hell for that. In unrelated news I scored a sick parking spot today that’s protected in between two driveways. To top it off, one of the driveways belongs to one of our developers!
Oh yeah, I was tired of the van so I stole my girlfriend’s new ride and drove it in today.

327 on 3/27
Bick66
When I looked at the calendar and noticed today’s date, I couldn’t help but think of my all-time favorite Chevy small block: the 327. This predecessor to the all-too-well-known SB 350 was only in production for eight years, but became an icon of GM’s muscle era. The 327’s 4-inch bore is perfect for big-valve heads and has a fairly short 3.25-inch stroke. For its time, the little workhorse had one of the highest hp per cubic inch ratings of any small block–even in its stock form, a Turbo Fire 327 would put out 350 hp. Since these engines are hard to come by, I’ve never owned a complete 327. But recently I was excited to find a set of 1966 327 heads, with all the hallmarks of a racy small-block build: decked to the nines, with tiny combustion chambers and huge valves–just the thing for my high-compression 383 stroker build.
How about you: what engines do you hold near and dear, and do 3-digit dates and times make you think of them?

Genesis Beats the MKS on CarDomain

This weeks Showroom Showdown ended up being a bit closer than I thought it would be, but the Genesis still won, with 57% of the vote. Looks like RWD and horsepower carries the day on CarDomain. Anyway, stay tuned for another match up next week, and keep those Showdown suggestions coming!

The Ford Fiestas that’ll be loaned out to a lucky 100 for a 6-month test period as part of the manufacturer’s Fiesta Movement campaign were seen rolling onto the dock yesterday at Oxnard, CA and Baltimore, MD. Coolpacer, I think I see the car that you’ll be blogging for us…
