Mike and I Just Drove the Camaro SS in Manhattan

Chevy tossed us the keys and let us play with the new Camaro for a good thirty minutes. Of course, we immediately got stuck in traffic, but we still managed to have some fun with the thing. It was an automatic, but they are giving us one with a 6 speed for a full 24 hours tomorrow. Hmmm, what should we do with it?

Impressions? It doesn’t seem to have the low rpm grunt of the Hemi Challengers we’ve driven, the exhaust note is fairly tame, and the brakes seemed a bit soft. But otherwise it is a sweet package. We’ll have a lot more to say on Friday, so stay tuned. More pics after the jump, along with a quick in-car video.

Man, The new Camaro look’s Wicked awesome. I have never seen one in person. I’ve only seen photos of the new camaro. I bet it’s loud as hell. Wish I had the money to buy one of these.

Don’t dis the Camaro till you see it in person. I like it better than the Chally, all things being equal. But if I had the money, I’d have to test all three to know which I like better. Methinks a Joel Rosen-modded Camaro would be right up my alley! Or, perhaps, SLP modding the Camaro to look like one of those Firebirds I’ve seen floating around the Net.

college sure is going to PAY off..lol I’ll be getting one. Black SS version like the one you are driving..then i’m gonna have custom Rally stripes over the top, White of course….and the license will say Skunkd. Camaro FTW

Wow, I am completely unimpressed with this car. It’s hideous outside and the interior made me dry heave. The Challenger interior is way better looking than that, and it’s ugly as shit inside one of them. Looks like I’d be buying a Mustang if I had money for a new car.

well it does suck that the exhaust isn’t at loud but i guess that just means its one of those silent killers that comes in under the radar and then beats you lol, plus anybody that gets a new camaro and wants it for performance will change out the exhaust anyways, only thing i don’t like about the new camaro is the bottom half of the rear bumper

Man that thing has a lot of plastic under the hood! Too bad it was fairly tame to the ear. Hopefully the 6 speed will have some more burl to it…
