NYIAS: The GMC Terrain

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Another small crossover SUV was introduced at the Buick/Pontiac/GMC press conference–the GMC Terrain. While it shares the platform with the Chevrolet Equinox, the sheetmetal is entirely different, with more upscale features that you expect from a more expensive Chevrolet. Continue reading after the jump!

The base model engine is the fuel economy leader, featuring a direct injection 2.4L four-cylinder engine with 182 HP mated to a six speed auto delivering 30 MPG in front-wheel-drive only trim. The other engine option is a 3.0 liter direct injection V6 rated at 264 HP.

Some of the standard features include: standard rear vision camera, programmable power rear liftgate, Bluetooth hands-free phone capability, MultiFlex sliding rear seat that increases passenger comfort or provides optimal cargo space, remote vehicle start, USB audio connectivity; MP3 playback, seven-inch touch-screen navigation system and a 40-gigabyte hard drive, DVD-based rear-seat entertainment system with two independent screens, standard OnStar and XM Satellite Radio, and more.

Will this help GMC sell more units? GM seems to think so. This is in all reality a replacement for the unloved Pontiac Torrent, since GM has downgraded the Pontiac line to a “niche” line.

It look’s like a Lincoln Navigator. Those Side fender’s are pure ugly.

At first, I didn’t like the way the Terrain looked, but after looking at all the pictures that are on Autoblog, I am starting to like it. I think it looks like a little brother of the Acadia than a Yukon. I would drive the Terrain or the new Equinox.

Well, at the very least it’s not an Equinox with a GMC badge slapped on it. I’ll give GM credit for actually giving some free reign to the design department. It does somewhat look like the Yukon if you squint really hard.

it is fugly… but its alll competition. GM prolly saw ford and dodge make good looking crossovers ( journey and the flex) so there like we already have enough suvs and vans in all are other companies lets make a gmc crossover and voila! the GMC Terrain is born.

thats how i think it happend haha

SouthernGuy8503, I understand that one car itself cannot save an entire company the size of GM, but when your in a position like GM is right now, you cant risk it on anything, especially when you have under 2 months till Chaper 11. I dont know the exact numbers on sales of the Equinox however I feel this will be another one of GM’s neglected models like the Pontiac Torrent

nate, not one vehicle can save a whole company, be real, not one vehicle alone could save GM or chrysler/dodge or any big company, and its not ugly to me though, its just another smaller SUV, its not like this is a whole new concept, its just the GMC version of the chevy equinox so they didnt’ waste a lot of money on it, just making the different sheet metal

IH-international, Im sure we could all act civilized here. But seriously think about it. Will this be the vehicle that will save GM? not even close.
