The Governator Does SAE

By Katherine Helmetag

The Society of Automotive Engineers is meeting in Detroit this week, and they invited the Governator to give the keynote address in keeping with the green theme. Schwartzenegger’s comments caused an uproar when he claimed that CARB was setting emissions standards because somehow Cali folk know what is best for the rest of us. He did stress that a unified and complete energy policy was critical to the success of the US auto industry, but did not comment when asked if the Left Coast would consider compromise with USEPA. Arnold also announced that he will star (for free!) in any ads for “American cars, cars built in Detroit.” So which one of the Not-So-Big Three will step up first? You tell us!

He is discussing how the brownies have taken over the California and then he talks about Jaime Lee Curtis having a vagina and a peckah!

Someone really should turn that Schwarzenegger pic into a caption picture….

I’m here to nit pick, it’s Schwarzenegger not Schwartzenegger. Just so ya know I was really tempted to do a Grammatik-Polizei joke.

I agree. Automobiles account for a small percentage of pollution and carbon emissions. And just because Congress mandates new CAFE standards doesn’t magically create 50-mpg cars. (A little thing called “thermodynamics” gets in the way.)
.
The government needs to stay out of regulating vehicles to this extent.

I see where you are coming from Biggunna, but you have to admit that there are many other things politicians could be doing to help the environment or the economy.

I disagree green technology has actually improved performance over the years. The fuel efficient cars in the 80′s were the direct result of the gas crunch of the 70′s. It’s just a progression that will continue until we are able to maximize the potential of the combustion engine. As far as CA being the standard I don’t know about that, I know it’s always been the most strict of all the states when it comes to vehicles, but at the same time go to downtown LA on a hot smoggy day and you’ll realize why we these standards are in place.

I don’t think he will star in any, he in a way, is their enemy. He is the type of politician who is pushing for all the “green” technology, which is making it harder for the Big Three to produce automobiles that meet these “green standards”. I mean there’s a lot of crap that truthfully don’t need to be on cars(safety and emission stuff), look back to 1980′s cars some of them got 40 and 50 MPGs. Politicians and many other people need to realize that cars aren’t the only things that pollute, and need to leave the automotive industry alone. There are exceptions to what I’m saying, but look at the big picture…A day doesn’t go by without hearing how bad the Big Three are. All I have to say is that we need to give them a little more respect than what they get FORD, Chrysler, and yes even GM.
