Leaner GM by 2010

By Katherine Helmetag

There will be no room for error with this new round of cuts, as GM will be close to the bare bones of having enough staff to operate. Overall, they are proposing a nearly 30% reduction in everything. I’m waiting for the list of plant closings to hit, and confirmation of the loss of Pontiac is a downer. The new plan builds on the planned cuts in the February 17th report. Read the new details over on the GM Media site.

They can restructure all they want but whether they live or die relies on their products, quality and their prices.

brett – obama won’t kill GM, just like evne if GM does have to file for bankruptcy they won’t be out of busniess, they’ll still be around, just like when K-mart filed, they’re still plenty of stores around, just not the stores that had that great of busniess

Oh and to AudiobahnV8SHO, blaming this on President Obama is just ridiculous.

It is a gray and somber day here in Detroit. While we knew it was going to happen to actually hear the official report of Pontiac going and the impending doom of the additional lay offs is gut wrenching. Once again we are holding our breath to see who will lose their jobs this time…hoping our name is not on the list.
