Chrysler Files Chapter 11, Will Partner With Fiat
Atomicalex
I am old enough to remember when Chrysler paid back their government loans. Today, they won’t get the chance to do it again. This is a sad day. Not sure what will happen here—no doubt Jeep will be saved by FIAT, but the rest of the rest of the platforms have less going for them. Local Chrysler workers are angry—with the UAW and CAW meeting demands in talks, it’s looking like Chrysler staff are going shoulder the pain here. You know, I don’t know which “end” is less dignified—the abandonment of Pontiac, or the financial destruction of Chrysler. But on a positive note, it is nice to see the government put the auto industry’s needs above the banking industry for once.

dragorphan, you’re a fucking idiot. This is a LOAN, not free money. The last time Chrysler took a loan from the government, they paid back every single cent–with interest. So I guess that proves that they can “shurly” make a cent, huh? That’s right, the government made money on that deal.
.
As for not making a good car, I guess all those 300Cs and Chargers you see on the road are driven by morons that buy bad cars. Oh, and the new Dodge Ram has won quite a few awards already, and it hasn’t even been out for a year.

dragerphan – a bailout isn’t free money, its basically just a loan so they have to pay it back, and as far as i know taxpayers don’t have to pay a cent, they keep most of our tax money anyways since we don’t get back 100% of the tax money we pay them, so i’d rather them use that tax money we don’t get back to help the auto industry than them pay people on welfare that won’t even look for work because they’re to lazy, i know not all people on welfare are like that but most are

why should the tax payers support a company that time and time again has proven that they can`t make a cent. they shurly can`t make a good car. never number one for a reason. let them die and keep the money.

im with chevyman, im a GM guy, mainly chevy and Mopar comes in 2nd with me but i don’t want to see chrysler go, i think both chrysler and GM will be alright, and im with chevyman to, ain’t no way im buying one of the “green cars”, i like my V8s, fuck that little electric shit, i want to be able to pass someone on the interstate when i need to and it not take a mile to do it
>>>>>>>>>>>
thing is that some people want to say the “big 3″ just make crap and thats not true, anything can last 300,000 miles as long as you maintain it like you should, all it is, is that people get brain washed thinking imports are better, i mean if some people like imports better then so be it thats them but some people just get told certian things and believe it, or some people have a bad experience with one vehicle and think the whole make is crap, kinda stupid to think that, but people got to look at what started this whole bullshit, the war in Iraq, didn’t have all the economic BS until that shit, trust me i understand wanting to go over there and kick ass but he saw what it was doing to the economy and still let the soldiers stay over there when they couldn’t find Bin Laden, but Obama should fix everything in the long run, nobody better not vote for another Bush lol

im a chevy guy first off but i gotta say if chrysler and gm gotta do things this way from what i get from it is that they are depending on cleaner running cars that must mean goodbye to anymore cool cars with real power and stylin instead only power will be from electronic shit and other gay ways and even then it wont be considered power to a true car guy and not to mention they will be tiny wierd egg shaped things and before anybody wants to hate and call me a stupid redneck i understand the financial reasons but to say clean cars are gonna help things is just part of (THE PLAN)and dont ask what i mean cuz i know better i just hate to see the car culture go to hell! there is also too many of us red blooded americans out there who wont buy this shit. dont get me wrong i want to see the economy get better for the rest of us and the auto industry but they try fixin it in stupid ways. I dont know i guess everythings just goin to hell and i mite not ever buy a new vehicle because they will probably be cheap pieces of shit.

This can be a good thing! It forces Chrysler to reconstruct and reorganize its whole car building company!
Otherwize they would have taken our tax money temporarily fixed their system, and a few more years down the road crash into debt again.
Good Luck Chrysler!

Other than fortyfordsedan, you guys don’t really know what you’re talking about (especially you, Katherine).
.
This is actually a very GOOD thing for Chrysler. This forces their creditors to strike a deal with Chrysler and enables the company to restructure itself.
.
Fiat does not control Chrysler per se; a large part of this agreement is that Fiat gets to sell cars in the US using the Chrysler brand, and Chrysler gets to sell cars overseas using the Fiat brand.

Basically Fiat is running the show now. They have the technology and know how. Know all we need to learn is how to say Hemi in Italian?
Not really, the UAW owns 55% of Chrysler.

Its not necessarily the end. Chrysler is expected to be under bankruptcy protection for less then 60 days and come out with Fiat having 20% ownership at the start and 35% eventually. http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/2009/04/detnews-bankruptcy-terms-announced/
