Hot Rod Garages by Peter Vincent

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

The kind folks at Motorbooks send me a lot of books. I don’t always have time to read them (heck, I don’t always have time to read half the stuff in the CarDomain Blog), but I always flip through the books to check out the pics. And this one has some of the best pics I’ve seen yet. Motorbooks also sent me a bunch of photos from the book to use in this post, which I’ve included below the jump. These are from the shops of legends like Pete Eastwood, Rolling Bones, Roy Brizio and Vern Tardel. Enjoy the pics, and be sure to check out Hot Rod Garages at your local bookstore.

See the Tjin Edition Pontiac G8 CST This Week at Spring Carlisle

By Rob Einaudi

I got a chance to check out Neil’s G8 at SEMA in November, where it won the GM Design Award of Excellence and the Dunlop Maxxed Out Tire Award. Since then, he’s made a bunch of updates, including the Vortech supercharger, Air Lift suspension, carbon fiber Status Racing seats and a custom MagnaFlow Exhaust. You can see it at Spring Carlisle this week. And of course you can see all the latest updates on his ride page.

Road Trippin'

By Jen Dunnaway

Well, it’s not like it’s summer yet on the West Coast, but we’ve had a few balmy days and enough sunshine to make anyone want to hit the road. Last week I did just that, since I was dying to put some miles on my Concord‘s new tires–so I took a quick trip up to Vancouver, BC. Not exactly a long haul–Vancouver’s just a couple of hours away from Seattle on the I5–but I hadn’t yet taken the Concord on any kind of out-of-town trip since I’ve owned it, and I was curious to see how it would behave on its new meats and all the upgraded suspension parts I’ve put on it over the last couple of weeks. As it turned out, the mini road trip was lovely and the Concord drove like a dream. And there’s nothing quite like getting out on the open highway to spend some quality time with a car you’ve put some work into.

How about you–has road trip season started for you yet? Where’ve you been so far this year, and what did you drive?

UW Red Square Charity Car Show in Seattle

By Weston Henderson

Over the weekend Ryan and I hit up the NorthWest Auto Salon Charity Car Show at the University of Washington’s Red Square. The turnout was good and included some amazing and rare cars. CLK DTM, Scuderia, and a Lambo LM002 just to name a few of the rarest cars on hand. The show helped raise money for the treatment and prevention of child HIV/Aids , so all of the proceeds went to a great cause. Other then that, I will let the pictures speak for themselves! Tons more after the jump!

Concours d'Lemons

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

For many, the most eagerly anticipated automotive event of 2009 is the first annual Concours d’Lemons to be held at Toro Park, Monterey on August 15. From the official website:

Brought to you by the same miscreants behind the 24 Hours of LeMons and Billetproof, Concours d’LeMons lowers the tone for the Monterey Weekend. Tired of paying $150 to see 150 identical Ferraris? Concours d’LeMons costs 20 bucks and has 20 Pacers and Pintos. Bored with the same old collector-car canon? Our Warsaw Pact Class should be shot from a cannon.

From mint-condition shag vans to Honey Bees, Bricklins, Skodas, and Edsels, Concours d’LeMons is all about stuff that you haven’t seen every damn August! The fact that we actually know our cars suck is just gravy. Lots of free parking means no shuttles out to East Jabib. Optional “Small-Wiener Corral” so your Maybach won’t have to sit near a Yugo. Easy back-road directions to bypass Laguna’s grand Cluster-F.

Monterey County-Mandated Warning: No wine, cheese, straw boaters, silicone-augmented cougars, or watercolors of pre-war Grand Prix races are sold at this venue.

One car headed to the Concours d’Lemons is this Olsen Eagle. Is this thing hot or what? More on this ride over at Jalopnik

Heinz Comet

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

I’ve never concealed my love for beer trucks, especially the streamlined art deco ones that emerged shortly after the end of Prohibition, but this one’s new to me – a ketchup truck. It seems that Rust Heinz, of the eponymous condiment company, planned and commissioned such a truck in 1938 and envisioned an entire fleet of them hauling around his company’s products. Or so he told the magazines of the day. Continue reading at Hemmings

Powertours

Car Culture At Large

What better way is there to experience the broad variety of the Japanese car scene, than to be dropped right in the middle of it. This is precisely what Andy at Powervehicles is trying to do with Powertours. The idea is to offer the tour of a lifetime to those wanting a real taste of JDM life. Imagine coming to Japan and being able to drift at Tsukuba or Ebisu with a specially tuned 380+ PS JZX90 drift car. Continue reading at Speedhunters
