The 2010 Scirocco Is So Fresh! Too Bad We Don't Get It
Weston Henderson
Rob pointed me to a thread on the VWVortex about the new Scirocco. This thing is pretty sick if you ask me, but VW decided it was a better idea to keep this one to themselves. Long story short, we won’t be seeing this sweet ride stateside.
There are mixed reviews about this car, but the majority of VW fans seem to love it, including me. The chassis comes with the VW/Audi ever popular 200 hp 2.0 liter turbo engine, so it has some decent power. It’s 3″ wider and 2″ lower then the GTI and apparently slightly lighter. There are plans to generate an R20 version of this platform that will produce hp in the range of 230-240 at the wheels, but once again we wont get it.
What do you guys think? Did VW make a mistake by not releasing this chassis in the States?

You guys all know I hang out at Moparts a lot. I also like to check out The Car Lounge at VWVortex (an awesome place to find caption contest photos). Stangnet, NASIOC and LXForums are pretty cool, too. How about you guys? Where do you like to hang out? (Besides CarDomain of course…)

Samurai Speed Tuning GT-R = Nitrous Fail
By Steve Neill
Steve Neill
Watch as the team from Samurai Speed Sports Tuning pumps in a 150 horsepower shot of Dry Nitrous (the wrong kind for a turbo setup) into their 600+ horsepower Nissan R35 GT-R. If you can guess the next part, you must have common sense (unlike these guys).
Rental Review: Dodge Avenger
Atomicalex
I always snicker at Chrysler’s choice of name for this car, because there’s no avenging the sin(s) of the Sebring. The Avenger I rented this week for a trip to Cleveland was beat up inside and out and showed every one of the 37,000 miles it had already survived. With a plasticky interior that’s a step down from the Caliber and exterior styling that’s several steps down from the Charger, you’d think I plan to pour some hate on this snub-nosed and ugly little runner. But you’d be wrong - many of the things I love to complain about in rentals were right in this one. Most importantly, the switchgear was easy to find and clearly labeled and I didn’t have to struggle to keep the car in line or worry about stopping. The Avenger was screwed together tightly and aside from poor rear visibility thanks to the fugly blackout panels on the rear doors, was easy to drive with a decent powertrain (rough in idle, but better than the G5). Add in a capacious trunk and modest-but-capable handling and brakes, and you have a decent pick for the one- or two-person road trip. Looks like Rob liked the Avenger he rented last summer, too.

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday. What happened? Anyway, we got over 400 entries for this one. But we’re giving it to bigfazolie for “It looked so much easier when the squirrels did it…” Stay tuned for another caption contest tomorrow!

VW Bluesport Concept?
Weston Henderson
VW has been toying around with the idea for a two seater convertible. The Bluesport, unveiled in Detroit in January, has a slightly awkward look from some angles and can look a little feminine from others, but overall I have to say I like this car a lot. It would appear from the pictures that they are taking some design queues from the Audi R8, but I could be wrong. First mods : debadged, slammed, exhaust and rims. Interior is drop-dead sexy, so I wouldn’t touch it. What do you guys think?

FIAD
Atomicalex
That’s Fabricci Italiano Automobili Detroit, and it’s what Chysler might become if the bosses at FIAT have their way. It sounds like the UAW and CAW will get behind the talks leading to a joint Chrysler-FIAT agreement, and today we heard that the head of FIAT is willing to purchase Chrylser’s assets if required! Say what? More to follow when I hear it….

Your Wrong

I had an argument today about the Nissan Maxima on a public site (I won’t name names here). Usually I’m not one to gloat, but this so-called “lover” of cars, was so out of context and incorrect that I had to tell him off. He kept arguing with me about a Nissan, and after the years of mistakes I’ve made in learning about Nissan/Datsun/Infiniti, I’ve finally gleaned some useful things, and I think it’s safe to say I know quite a bit more then most other enthusiasts who only focus on one brand (gloating time now over).
But this person was completely adamant about his knowledge, and wouldn’t let up at all, when I clearly knew what I was talking about. So that begs the question: have you ever run into a know-it-all?

David Freiburger Owns 36 Cars
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
There’s a pretty good discussion going in the comments on the blog I wrote yesterday—Do You Care What Cars Automotive Writers Own? In my post I said that David Freiburger probably owns 10 or 15 cars. Well, David piped in and said he owns 36 cars. Freakin’ awesome! The car below is his 1970 Super Bee, which he purchased in 1983 for $1,800. You can read all about this car and see tons of pics over at BangShift.com
