2009 Viva Las Vegas Car Show
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
As promised last week when we posted this gallery of 66 retro custom cars, BangShift.com spent Saturday in Las Vegas for the 12th Annual Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender. The event is now held at the Orleans casino and is mostly a music fest, but the Shifters of So-Cal host a retro car show in conjunction with it. We were disappointed that so many of the retro rods and customs seen there were powered by small-block Chevys as we were hoping to get photos of a bunch of Cads, Olds Rockets, Hemis, and Nailheads, but there was still some great junk to see. Check out 159 photos from Viva Las Vegas!

On eBay: '66 Impala, Cattle Not Included
Bick66
This auction gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “put out to pasture.” With my Impala rebuild well underway I can’t help but feel for this poor car left sitting out to rust. Come on, basket-case rescue anyone?
More pictures after the jump and check out the eBay auction here.

They had one of these amazing supercars at NYIAS. It was kind of hard to photograph, but I figured you guys would want me to post the pics anyway. More after the jump!

Racing Lancer

This bad boy was over in the Mitsubishi booth at NYIAS. Featuring carbon fiber body panels and a 3.0 liter V6 turbo-diesel, this Lancer Sportback was designed to be a serious contender in the Dakar Rally. More pics after the jump!

This is easily the silliest thing I saw at the New York Auto Show. More pics after the jump!

This is a picture my grandpa had of his first car! My grandpa believed that shell gasoline was the only gasoline!

Fuel Leak
Atomicalex
Every year, I pull the Rabbit out of the garage a few days before the insurance goes live, just to see what I am going to need to attend to immediately. This year did not disappoint. After firing up perfectly on Sunday afternoon (Easter Bunny?) and running in the driveway for a few minutes, I hit the neighborhood roads for a quick tour. I made it a grand total of six blocks before experiencing catastrophic failure. You eventually know exactly what the mode of failure is when the car dies just by how it dies, and as you can see, I had a collosal fuel leak right after the pump. I managed to leave a 150-foot-long trail down the street I was on, too. I guess I know what I’m doing next weekend!

What's Next: Mopar Introduces New 3.6 Liter V6
By Rob Einaudi

Jim Press mentioned this new motor briefly during the introduction of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee at NYIAS, but I didn’t see any details on it til now. The current 3.5 V6 is ancient, and is finally being replaced by this all aluminum DOHC V6, which produces 33% more power and 11% more torque while delivering 11% better fuel economy. It can run on E85 if necessary, and will contribute to a 2 mpg increase in Chrysler’s overall CAFE by 2015. And if the deal goes through with Fiat, it could even end up in some Alfas. Crazy, huh?

What Did You Do This Weekend?
By Jen Dunnaway

Since I got new tires for my AMC Concord last week, I figured it was finally time to give my daily driver the thorough going-through that it had been going without. I replaced a passenger-side ball joint that was close to falling out, and I swapped out the clapped old shocks for new KYB’s all the way around. I threw in a set of platinum plugs, installed a new cap and rotor, and replaced the crusty old plug wires with 8mm Taylors. I changed the oil and swapped in my new K&N air filter. The Concord totally purrs now, and is a tight-sprung handling machine to boot. Tomorrow I’m taking it for alignment.
How about you? What did you do this weekend?
