The Kettenkrad

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

We’ve been hung up on the military vehicle genre, but that’s because there’s so much weird and cool stuff out there to look it. Here’s one more: the German Kettenkrad, or as we like to call it, the doomsday motorcycle. This is what you get when you cross a tank with a trike.

The vehicle was originally intended to be a light tractor for troops to use for pulling cannons or other guns through tough terrain. Its major design feature was that it would fit in the cargo hold of a plane and could be transported with relative ease and dropped into remote locations. Continue reading at BangShift.com

Hater Fodder: Red and Gold Mercedes SLR

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

Switzerland is responsible for this gaudy addition to our Hater Fodder section of the blog. Below you can see the base SLR they used, and after looking at the guy in the picture you can almost guess where this project is headed. So what do you get when that guy designs a SLR? Find out after the jump!

StreetFire member b00st3dmx5‘s motor was shot so he decided to finish it off for good. I think David Wallens is crying right now.

Doheny Woods Woodie Meet

By Rich Truesdell

Automotive Traveler

What better way to celebrate one of the icons of California’s surf culture than to head to Doheny Beach State Park in Dana Point and take in more than 200 woodies of all stripes and types. Although dominated by more than two dozen early postwar Fords–Ford’s breakthrough car introduced in 1949–there were many different types of woodies on display ranging from hot rod woodies to the wonderful and rare examples like a 1953 International Harvester R-140, quite possibly the largest woodie ever built, in this case, a special build for the US Army Corps of Engineers. Ryan's Ford Glass-Top Bus

By Austin Knight

Gotadime

Every now and then, you come upon a true CarDomain gem that’s waiting to be discovered. Ryan’s 1946 Bus is without a doubt one of those gems. This glass-top bus, number 27 of approximately 44, is one of (if not the) last 1946 Ford glass-top buses in existence. Ryan’s dad managed to get his hands on it for a mere $400 back in 1984. It has since been fully restored and has been featured in shows such as “Jake and the Kid.” This thing truly is a piece of history. Make sure that you stop by his page and take a look!

Gotta Love a Swap Meet

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

Sunday was a great day for me. My friend John and I went to check out the Sandown Swap Meet held at Sandown Racecourse. There were a lot of cool cars in the display area and despite vendor numbers being down there were plenty of bargains to be had. I was really pleased when I picked up a Plymouth Superbird for my model collection. It was a lot cheaper than buying it in a store or on the Internet. So what’s your latest swap meet find?

Ok, so maybe the G8 is history, but apparently US police departments are looking seriously at buying Chevy-badged Holden Commodores. How cool is that? Via Autoblog

Speed and Beauty on Display at the 2009 All-Italian Show

By Sam Barer

Sound Classics

Coming of age in the Pacific Northwest during the Ford, Carter and Reagan administrations, exposure to Italian cars came in small and sporadic doses. Sure, there were the less-than-rare sightings of Fiats and Alfas, but the only Lancia I remember was my third grade teacher’s blue Beta Coupe, there was a kid at school whose father had a grey Ferrari 308 GTS, and I once – just once, I saw a white Lamborghini Countach driving up Clyde Hill driving home from high school.

This makes the phenomenal turnout at the Fiat Enthusiasts Northwest club’s annual All-Italian show at the XXX Rootbeer in Issaquah, WA more amazing. With 100 beautiful Italian machines congregating in one Seattle-area suburb, it’s proof that world has changed drastically in just a few decades.

Fiat, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, De Tomaso, and Lamborghini were all well-represented. Ferrari had the best showing with nearly a third of the total field wearing a prancing horse badge.

And, of course, the color of the day was Rossa Corsa. Between the cars and clothes, there was more red at the show than in all the Tarantino movies combined. Continue reading after the jump!

Rolls Royce Not Happy With Geely

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

It has been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. This, however, is not a view that is held by Rolls Royce. What has riled Rolls Royce is the latest concept limo to come out of the Geely Automobile camp. The Geely Excellence has a lot of traditional Rolls Royce features, and these features have attracted the attention of the Rolls Royce managers and their lawyers. Get the full story here. Personally, I think that if you are going to release a new limo you have to come up with a better name than the Excellence.
