An Unspeakably Defiled Nova on eBay

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

We love ’68-’72 Novas around here. They make great drag cars, look killer in hot street trim, and will swallow whatever nasty motor you have designs for. We’ve seen plenty cut up and raced, and even more that have rotted so badly that they’ll never see road use again, but this one…this one makes us sad.

The car looks to be clean and the floors appear to be rust free in a couple of the sellers’ admittedly rough photos. What possesses people to do stuff like this? A BangShifter needs to buy this trar, kick ‘er on down into low-range and drive through this fellow’s trailer. That’ll learn him. Look here, if you dare.

A Rare Look at Chevrolet’s Hidden-Away Display Engines

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

We had a grand time looking over the engine displays in the GM Heritage Center last year, but that’s not what prompted Greg Steinmayer to write in. Greg, who previously has shared with us some excellent photos of Warhoops Junkyard and the transparencies he inherited from his grandfather, happens to work for EEI Global, a Detroit-area company that restores and manages show displays for GM. Twins Turbo Shop Tour

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

A few hours after I got back to Long Beach, from Pomona and the SO-CAL Speed Shop, I went out with Marc and Eric from Twins Turbo Motorsport to taste some fine local cuisine at their favourite Korean restaurant. The Twins are rather clever, politically minded people, and the conversation is always quite spirited and interesting… So unless you have some debating skills in your arsenal, it’s perhaps best to keep the subject on cars! Source Interlink Files For Chapter 11

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Hey, how about some more bad news? Source Interlink, publisher of just about everything from Automobile to Vette, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptsy. What does this mean exactly for these magazines and their readers? Dunno, but you can read the spin that Interlink is putting on this news here. As a long-time subscriber to Hot Rod, Mopar Muscle and Bike, I’m hoping the folks associated with these fine publications make it through these difficult times. Ever Had a Car Project Not Go As Planned?

By David Belau

dartslantsix

So, I decided to do a little weekend project on the Slant Six. My dad picked up a 2bbl manifold and carburetor known as the “Super Six” package. I spent a couple nights rebuilding the carb and painting the manifold. After that I was ready to install it and fire up the car. It’s the kind of project that should only take a couple hours.

But the Gilligan complex overtook my car. What should have been a three hour tour turned into a never ending project from hell. I gingerly removed all the nuts holding the intake on and when I got to the last one, it gingerly broke off. That’s right, I broke off a stud down inside the head. At this moment, little horns grew out of my head and my eyes burned red. My voice dropped into a lower range than is humanly possible as a guttural growl emitted from my throat. My wife popped her head into the garage when she heard the noise, but she retreated when she smelled the burning sulfur and saw the savage beast under the hood of the Dart.

So tell me, have any of your projects not gone as planned? A full write up on my Super Six conversion, complete with colorful adjectives, is coming soon.

1967 Mustang with Retractable Hardtop on eBay

Not sure I’d do this to a vintage Mustang, but still, it’s fairly impressive. A few more pics after the jump, or check out the eBay auction for a ton more pics. Via Autoblog

New Audi A4 TDI: 51 MPG Arriving Everywhere but USA

By Austin Knight

Gotadime

The new Audi A4 TDI is equipped with a nice little 2.0-liter four cylinder diesel that has the ability to achieve 51 mpg! The only problem is, it’s not going to be showing up in the US. The diesel is expected to push about 136 hp and still hit the 51 mpg mark. Not only can it do that, but if you sacrifice 2 mpg, you will have the option of getting one with a 6-speed manual transmission. It will also be available in the Avant format. So, my only question is, why can’t this German miracle make its way to our soil?

Fiesta Movement Winner Can't Drive Stick

By Rob Einaudi

Intrepid VWVortex member chucchinchilla spotted a red Fiesta chugging across an intersection in Pittsburgh. He followed the guy around the corner and snapped this pic with his cell phone as the guy ground the gears trying to park. The Ford contest clearly stated that the cars would come with manual transmissions. But apparently, several Fiesta Movement winners like Bobby Fiorentino can’t drive stick. Doh!
