SVT Raptor Beats the Grand Cherokee SRT8 on CarDomain
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Some people were pretty annoyed with me for this week’s Showroom Showdown. But hey, it’s all in good fun, right? The idea was to put two closely priced vehicles with no real competition up against each other. And the Raptor won, despite the fact that the CherokeeSRT8 forum got in on the act. Nice going Ford. Now Chevy and Dodge have to step up and give the Raptor some competition.

i take it back curb weight of a SVT Raptor is (as tested)5957lbs, the jeep is 4606lbs so ford mastered fuel efficiency on that one. One more mile to a gallon along with hulling 1351 more pounds. If anything the Raptor most likely has less features then the jeep and in comparison to other trucks on its performance for hulling ass for instance the Chevy Silverado 09 with a 5.3 v8 that has 367 horsepower with 338lb of torque and a fully loaded Silverado is just over $40,000. the only reason the Raptor would be a better choice if you are a real “handy man” and you need the extra torque. The mpg of the Silverado (the claim)is 14city 19 hwy which is better then the Raptor and the Raptor is roughly the same price $38,995 MSPR spend a few more grand and you got something better then the ford version of a Dakota. Like i said earlier the fifth best sports utility in the world… From Car and driver 4 suv’s in the comparison my b and it scored 4th in overall performance and the cheapest ones in the category were over $70,000 so the jeep is a well worth buy

Ok sorry about the typos the 09 sr8 is 11 city 14 hwy and the svt is 12 city 15 highway for the 5.4 v8 smaller engine 100 less horse and only one mile per gallon. True so its a gas saver but these days a mile is almost nothing and also true that the raptor is a more durable car and a car you can “beat up” but the SRT8 with only one mile less per gallon makes that up in HP and in the fact that it is #5 best sports utility in the world and it stands next to other v8s and v6 that are turbo or supercharged and yet its in the top 5 with no adds of a supercharge or a turbo.Good old American muscle… So tell me what Awards or ratings have the SVT Raptor made? O and one more thing if you slap some pipes on any car you can hear the v8 roar so why not do it with a car that actually can back it up?

Ok i don’t understand why people are talking trash about the off roading for a jeep grand Cherokee. I’m pretty sure the grand Cherokee was the model to be in urban areas such as a “street car” and also with the compass to be popular selling vehicles of jeep. If anyone here knows about jeep the Rubicon now my turn on the say of the SVT raptor it is a truck most likely weighs more then the jeep and about the mph the raptor gets one mile of gas then the jeep highway and city but 100 less horse… The 0-60 time of 2009 SRT8 jeep is 4.5sec and the raptors is 4.7sec now the 1/4 mile of the jeep is a 12.3-13.3 and the raptors is a 13.1-13.6 now for an everyday car the raptor would get a mile per gallon over the jeep this is better but im a dodge guy and the raptor won probably cause the capability it has but i would prefer the jeep because of horse power and of the style looks better so I don’t know where these people got their numbers but to me this sounds fishy a car like the raptor to me could only out perform a jeep in torque but i guess ford failed at that… Probably why they made a 6.2 L v8 to keep up with the jeep and maybe put it into a mustang… sure as hell could keep up with the Camaro and Challenger

lejour – my point to him was just that he’s saying the SRT8 would make for a better daily driver, but the raptor actually would since i’d bet my life that the raptor gets better gas mileage, especially since the SRT8 is a Hemi and AWD, also it would be better since its more usefual and vesital than the jeep SRT8, and i do agree about the truck being a daily driver because i’ve always had full size V8 trucks, the one i have now is a 98 chevy silverado Z71 and well the way i do haul ass eveywhere im lucky to get 11-12 mpg in town and maybe 14 mpg on the hwy, and i really don’t complain even when gas was $4 a gallon and i still drove my truck as much as i did before, so i don’t care personally for what mileage i get, if i did i’d have a little chevy S-10 ZR2 lol

whoa whoa ladies. calm down. these trucks don’t “guzzle” gas. A 500 cubic inch caddilac sucks gas. these trucks are perfectly fine on gas if you dont haul ass everywhere. This is coming from a guy who drove a silverado while making $150 and 500km (hwy) per week. plus who wouldn’t want a truck as a daily driver. You slap some pipes on it and you can cruise around listening to that sweet sweet V8. I think the Raptor would be great cause you can beat the crap out of it

thats weel and good, just my point is that you made it sound like in your first comment that you had to live in the country to take it off-road, and also ya i haev a full size 4×4 truck and don’t use it for work all the time but i don’t mind using it to haul or tow, i love using my truck as a truck, also i almost jump on it when someone ask me to help because i have a truck, i like the fact i don’t have to go asking someone else to use their truck, oh and looks like to me the raptor is a stock 4×4 height no added lift on it and if it is a lift its no more than 2 inches, also the tires aren’t mud tires, they’re good for mud but they’re good off-road tires in general and they’re also good road tires for the street, i had a set of those on my truck before, only reason i don’t have them on my truck now is because when i gto new tires i didn’t have the money for those BFGoodrich All-Terrains since they were 150 each to 600 for the pair and they’re even a little more now, but of course im not getting on you cause i know everybody has their opinions and thats fine and i don’t get mad if you disagree like some people on here do, just in your first comment you made it seem like you had to live in the country just to get it dirty, but also you do say whats the point of having a truck as a daily driver, well whats the point in having a gas guzzling jeep GC with AWD as a daily driver, a Hemi already guzzles gas and then it being a 6.1 makes it guzzle more gas and it being AWD makes it even worse since the engine has to power both the front and back, so the SRT8 is faster but the Raptor i bet my life that it gets better gas mileage and then you can use it for towing and hauling when you need it to, i usually don’t care about gas mileage and i still don’t im just making a point that the SRT8 guzzles gas worse than the raptor would so it would be a worse daily driver, but again not getting on you about your opinion just letting you know thats all

i would never use a truck as a daily driver, just not the way i am….the only way i would consider buying a truck is if i lived in the country(farm land) or maybe if i was in the contruction business so i can haul shit and use it for work, i just dont see the point in having a truck when all im going to put in the bed is groceries. and i know its not just for offroading but whenever i look at those tires and that lift i get a itch to find some mud

so just because you don’t live in the country don’t mean you can’t use the raptor, can still use it for work and also there’s country around you

whtfocus – the raptor isn’t made jsut to go off-road, its good to use as an actual truck to as in for towing and hauling stuff in the bed, so the raptor is just more versital than the SRT8, i mean ya the SRT8 is a lot faster and i love speed but if i have a truck or SUV im going to want to use it for more than a daily driver, im going to want to put it to work to
