Chevy Camaro vs. Dodge Challenger vs. Ford Mustang vs. Hyundai Genesis Coupe: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Let’s settle this right here, right now. Fans of affordable RWD muscle have more choices now than they’ve had in a LONG time. We’ve got a major pony car war from the big three, and I’ve decided to throw in the Genesis Coupe to make it interesting  (and yes, this is our first four-way Showroom Showdown). The Camaro 1SS starts at $31,040. The Challenger R/T starts at $30,945. The Mustang GT Premium starts at $30,995. And the Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track starts at $29,500. Which would you choose?

Camaro you can’t beat the price for the HP you are getting, they are all nice cars but.

it depends on what you’re looking to get out of it. If you want power, speed and control…the Camaro, but personally, the new challenger makes me cream my pants and I’d take one of those over the camaro if I had to choose. Considering I have a 68 z28 clone built from SCRATCH..and a 69 chevelle, I’d love to throw a challenger into that mix. That’s a match made in heaven and I’d be able to die happy at 21

3 american cars and 1 import?? no comparrison…I’d personally pick the import cause I’m not an american muscle car guy and dare to be different…, no way a genesis could win with the “popularity poll”? everyone knows there are more american muscle fans in the world than tuners,…. pit the genesis against other imports available in north america in the same price range, then we have a fair contest!

I’ll have the Challenger please!

Legacy_camaro
May 8, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Challenger definatly takes the best looking old school muscle style trophy, but overall i would take the Camaro SS. It has superior performance BY FAR. And it is one of the best looking cars of all the choices. i mean, come on, look at the genesis. Its a plastic fart in a can blob of wanna be aston martin! The V8 Camaro would smoke the genisis in just about EVERYTHING.

Paulie_Batters
May 8, 2009 at 12:34 pm

In a perfect world I would got with the camaro. Of the three american cars the chevy provides the best value in terms of performance per dollar. In the real world I am not able to choose any of the cars here because of my height. They don’t make performance cars for people of a taller stature, and I’m talking about all brands in the auto industry. All seem to be solid cars so choose your rides and go have fun.

MiamiMiataGroup
May 8, 2009 at 12:20 pm

Genesis for me please, Light weight got over 300 horses is better put together than any American muscle cars plus it will smoke all those American horses when the road get a little twisty, just a look at the cheap interiors in this so called muscle cars and it hits you damn it man a good interior is important, that’s where I spend my time when I am driving can’t drive on the roof right?. Not 2 mention something so simple as a power window most ford power windows stop working well before 100K and in some cases even before 50K examples quite a few ford aerostar, an 04 explorer with less than 50 and all 4 motors had burned out FORD ELECTRICAL IS A JOKE, How about the barbecue company of America more fords cars burn than any other manufacturer, sorry ford, I am all for quality, making power and saving gas in the process as this muscle cars weight 3 and 4 tons and love 2 eat gallons of gas, if anyone thinks gas prices won’t go up you are in for quite a shock after 2012 cafe standards all this American rolling iron will be history and if this happens the Genesis will outsell the others with its 2.0 L turbo charged version. This is a great country but i just wish they made better cars god bless America but not it’s cars.

Challenger no doubt. The genesis coupe is a great lookin car but it doesnt belong in this comparison. The camaro is my close second choice – i just cant say no to the hemi and im a dodge guy. EVERYONE has a freakin mustang…..ford should never have come out with those gay ass little engine options….i feel like the mustangs are just too common and too easy to get a hold of. They are also good poser cars because they v6 models look like a “bad ass muscle car” when really they dont have the horsepower to back it up

1. Camaro looks nice and is the fastest of the 4. But poor fit and finish.
2. Dodge Challenger looks nicer than the Camaro. Looks similar to the 1970-1971 look which I prefer. But again fit and finish lacks.
3. Genesis- Nice car but I don’t classify that as a muscle car but a Asian/ euro sports car. Very nice looking by the way.
4. I hate mustangs. Overrated and everyone has one. Not a fan of them and never will be.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe of course.

May 7, 2009 at 9:07 pm

I have no idea why the genesis is up there but you gotta go with the mustang.(Honestly, if this was the first time ever that they came out with the new mustang body style then I would go with the stang but since its been out a while and just been changed moderately between the 05 and 2010, I want to go with the new camaro since its the first of its body style.)

#1 Camaro (chevy guy)
#2 Challenger
#3 Genisus Coupe (even though i dont think its in the same class as these others for muscle
#4 Mustang dont really like the looks of the new ones as much

and i would have to say chevy and dodge did the best on bringing the oldschool muscle look back to the camaro and challenger but kept them sleek and more with today

M-U-S-T-A-N-G-!!!!!!!!! I just dont think the Genesis belongs in this showdown, the Camaro has alot to prove to us yet since it hasnt been around in awhile, the Challenger is sweet 4 sure, always gotta appreciate a Hemi, but only in a straight line, to heavy of a car for the corners, the MUSTANG, been around for over 40 years and has proven itself very well, always had a Badass look no matter what design and year it was, in my opinion the only competition here is between Challenger and Mustang, and I give the decision to M-U-S-T-A-N-G!!!!!!!

May 7, 2009 at 1:10 pm

1. Challenger (w/ 6-speed in Vanishing Point white)- styling is amazing; a bit big, but I can autocross a Grand Marquis, so it’s not an issue.

2. Mustang- Out of the Big Three, I’m a Ford fan, but American cars all around; styling has yet to really grow on me; I’ll wait for the 5.0 with 400 HP.

3. Camaro- Massive power is sweet; Zeta platform is great for handling; styling is a bit too much of a caricature.

4. Genesis- I’m sure the V6 is good on gas; there are other cars that could pass for a better muscle car than this, i.e. Crown Victoria, Buick Lacrosse Super, Charger, etc.

02sierraWT – the new camaro wasn’t supposed to look exactly like a 1st gen camaro, it was just supposed to have some of the same stylings of a 1st gen camaro, and it does, the grille isnt’ exactly like the grille of a 69 but its similar, the new camaro’s grille is just more of a V shape and the 69 is straighter but its still the same basic design, as for those fake vents on the rear quater panals, a 69 camaro has those same vents, also look at the body line going down the side of the new camaro, the 68 had that same body line going down the middle of the sides, so like i said, the chevy designers wasn’t trying to make it look 100% exactly like a 1st gen camaro, just use some of their stylings

dic51
May 7, 2009 at 8:42 am

Hyundai isn’t trying to make a “muscle car” and that is why I don’t beleive it should be in this comparison. It should be compared to cars like the Infiniti G37 but since it is priced closer to these cars, that is what it gets compared to. As far as Katakuna’s comments…after owning it for seven years you will need another one because the thing will be on it’s last leg. And the reason the styling is like the cars you mentioned is because it’s sports car. A big box is not very aerodynamic! I’m sorry that poor management and overpaid employees ruined the American car market but just refer to what 02sierraWT said. Chevy has to cut corners somewhere to make up for the high overhead and the cheap interior reflects it. I also believe that for a ground up start, the Genesis Coupe and Sedan are very well engineered vehicles and I’m sorry if the hard core bowtie fans are jealous that their company can’t build a better quality car.

Why do think there isn’t a 100,000 mile warranty on the Camaro? The car is hype and eventually the sales will reflect it. I really, really wish it wasn’t so….but the facts don’t lie. Hyundai is regularly in the top five on J.D. Power’s initial quality ratings…where does Chrysler, Ford and Chevrolet fall in these ratings? Ford is the only one with numbers that can even be referred to as respectable. Toyota and Honda have set the bar high and everybody else has been playing catch up for years, don’t get mad at me if Hyundai is reaching the bar while everybody else is still struggling..

I hope the Malibu and cars like it that are starting to roll out of Detroit can turn things around but I doubt it as long as the Union workers are unwilling to accept pay cuts to save their own jobs. Honda took a 10% across the board paycut due to the economy and the big three refuse even that. Good luck.

I think the Hyundai is just a sorry attempt from a company that used to only sell because of price. Personally, I think they’re trying too much to be like Nissan with their styling and powerplant choices.

I should have said it in my last comment, but I choose the Camaro, through and through. I’ve waited seven long years for it to come back, and I was completely satisfied.

02sierraWT
May 7, 2009 at 7:47 am

I work at a Chevy dealership and we got one of these “amazing” Camaros…i hate the damn thing, i drove it for like 10 minutes, couldn’t see out the back very well, the low roof line causes my head to rub sometimes, and the body has some odd things such as vents that are just molded in and are not cut out…granted its fast, but its not for me…personally I’m a fan of the gas hog challenger because it actually looks like the old muscle…the Camaro was modeled after a 68…my ass, clearly they’ve never seen one, and the mustang is straying further away form its original design of muscle as we go and everyone and their brother owns one, so whats the appeal of them, the Tiburon is just an oddball throw in, its got potential and for those who like that kind of car its great…but i would choose the challenger any day of the week.

May 7, 2009 at 7:07 am

With regards to 380GT’s comments, I’m afraid a good chunk of your argument is right but there are some misnomers. Remember, places like Japan and Germany have the benefit of their government taking care of the health care costs so the company isn’t burdened with that expense which is added on to every car. As for the employees here stateside, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota and so forth also don’t deal with that asinine UAW bull. The unions (especially UAW) have too much of a strong-hold and, if you are a genuine “American” as some of you still-living-in-the-60′s people like to tout, one of your values would be unfettered, free-market capitalism. Well guess what, the market determines that your work isn’t worth that much, and you are inflating it by strong-holding the companies you work for. Also, let’s not forget after WWII, we were the only industrialized nation remaining not working on gluing our teeth back in our heads so we, naturally, had somewhat of an oligopoly in manufacturing. Well, the effects of WWII resonated for much longer than anyone could have anticipated. The point is following. Chevrolet in its heyday had 25% of the market share; today, GM in its entirety doesn’t even have that. Yes, GM’s lack of market share can definitely be attributed to their lack of managerial foresight, but another reason for this is because as the effects of WWII began to wean off, more industrialized nations entered the global automotive market giving them a smaller piece of the pie each time. This in turn led American car manufactures to be really the only ones to have shrunk as time went on. This means they have this huge “legacy” payment of pensions and health care costs that burden them proportionally much, much more than anyone else. Now, to tack on American car’s quality: I can speak first hand that American cars of the early 2000’s are totally different than what they are now. A Fusion or Malibu in my opinion is right on par with Japan’s offerings. The Cobalt and Focus aren’t their yet, obviously, but we may be getting the new Focus already out in Europe and the Chevy Cruze looks to be GM’s first economy car that means business (save the German-engineered, Belgium & UK built Astra). Lastly, yet American manufacturers are shipping jobs oversees while foreign makes are building stuff here, but that’s just the natural part of globalization. Proportionally, American manufacturers still do more business here while Korean, Japanese and so forth still focus on their home turf more. Need proof? Google “Toyota City.” Also, before you praise Hyundai too much, keep in mind that South Korea has a HUGE tariff making our cars cost way too much in their market to be even remotely competitive. I have no qualms in buying foreign as I have done previously, but they are at the very least going to have to play fair before they get my business. All-in-all, the “ buy American!” people living in yesteryear and the pretend-to-be-forward-thinking “I’ll only by foreign” individuals are both, in my less than humble opinion, moronic. If you are a true American, you would let the free-market and competition do it’s thing, and it you were really forward thinking, you wouldn’t judge what American cars are today with your previous experience with the older stuff.

Some eloquent words by dic 51. He speaks the truth. Me formerly owning 2 different american cars. Both legends. One a monte carlo ss. And a classic 87 grand national. Then owning some asian cars as well. 05 g35 08 altima and 93 rx7. The drive quality are night and day. Interiors. America doesn’t even compete with GI Joe toys when it comes to high quality plastics. And that’s sad. I do luv america but I won’t buy till I see innovative designs and 21st ammenities in cars under 30k and no more CHEAP PLASTIS! THAT’S ANNOYING AMERICA. I inspect american cars and find a lot of. Low quality shortcuts. We still use suspension designs from yester year and charge high premiums on cheap parts cuz of a cool 45 year old design reincarnated? Please. We been doin retro cars for nearly a decade. With that pt cruiser and prowler setting it off in 01. Its boring and tiring. We lost pontiac. Dodge has been halp owned by 30 different foriegn car companies over the last 15 years. Ford is going to need a stimulus after all, hummer out the door. Saturn on the chopppng block, Z 28 canceled. Convertible cancelled. Saab going back to sweden. The sad part is. When they were leading the car market in the 70s and early 80s, they never invested enough into moving with the times. They thought with the hostile times of those days that no matter what crap we put out. America would buy it cuz who wants a pinko commi machine. But the middle 80s came. Commis became democratic socialists. And we learned the hard way they can build 2. And we still thought patriotism will sell cars. But when you work to support a family. Saving up 4 college tuitions pay a motgage and a slew of bills. Ur car has to last a decade of solid realtime use. America recently realized this in 2002. But its hard to fully catch up when you spent 20 years hopin patrioism will sell your cars. And rob america by pricing these cars so far above tru market value. Buy an american car. It depreciates 8000 bucks off the lot. Its our domestic.@why would they do that to us. Well in the end I choose the foreign car. Cuz while americans are closing plamts. Hyundai is bringing new plants to america so my people can have jobs. 1st in alabama. 35% Genesis engineering team is american. The hyundai design team is 75% american there new headquarters in california. While our companies are using canadians mexicans and australians for employment and shutting down american factories after taking the stimulus. (GM) that’s wrong.

1. Mustang (all around better car)
2. Genesis (damn close to best all around)
3. Camaro (big engine, loud noise – battery cable recall)
4. Challenger (big engine, heavy arse)

Man….if we were going by looks alone…this would basically be backwards…too bad looks aint everything…at least in car terms.

StickShiftRick
May 7, 2009 at 5:48 am

It’s unfortunate the Challenger is a lumbering piece of iron because it looks stunning. I hate to be the guy that magazine races here but since a good chunk of individuals here have a proclivity for it I’ll take the liberty to continue. The Challenger R/T is consistently the slowest around the cones, down the straight and it’s probably the most numb-feeling given that it’s an LX platform. Besides, it looks TOO big and at 4100lbs, it’s just ridiculous. I love what Ford has managed to pull of with the ’10 redesign of the Mustang; it’s more aggressive and leaner looking, even if they did pull of that eye-magic with a less-than-noble approach of replacing colored paneling with unpainted plastic down the entire length of the car at the bottom. Kudos goes to Ford for making it the leanest of the bunch! Not only is that what I think the ‘Stang should be, but it’s also what I would want out of the car anyhow. One final note, it seems to be a general consensus that the GT w/ the Track Pack actually yields a very tactile/visceral driving experience which is just win. My biggest gripe with it is that when you want to drive “spiritedly” on the street, a solid-axle would be my last pick. The Camaro seems to slot right in the middle in terms of size and driving involvement, but when it comes time to the numbers it trumps ‘em both. I must admit that I’m biased to GM’s LS motors so if it were me, I may just go with the Camaro. The 4.6L V8 is a lot better than non-Ford fanboys give it credit for and Mopar’s motors consistently yield some of the worst hp:displacement, fuel economy, and parasitic loss numbers so from an engine perspective, the Challenger is completely off the table. Now, the Genesis with it’s 210hp turbo I4 and it’s much more potent V6 is kinda cool; too bad they don’t put the sedan’s V8 in the couple — that would make it a more apt contender in my opinion! Alas, all this magazine racing and forum bashing is only good for so much. I think the only thing it really did for me was completely rule out the Challenger. I would have to drive both the Camaro and Mustang to really make up my mind; I just don’t think I’d be cross-shopping a Genesis w/ this bunch.

To all the folks bashing the Hyundai….let us put 50,000 miles on each of the four cars and see how they stack up. I doubt that any of the “muscle cars” will be anything more than a rattle trap or any of the control knobs still attatched to the interior. We aren’t even gonna mention how often any of these cars are going to have to see the techinician over that 50k miles or what kind of warranty they offer. And as far as “throwing” the 370Z into this camparison…not only does it not have a back seat, none of the above mentioned cars can perform near as well as the Nissan. If the American car manufacturers want to compete in today’s market they are going to have to try a little harder to produce a quality vehicle. While I do agree that the 3 American cars are good looking, is there a one of them that didn’t have to get its design from previous models? Even though this rant doesn’t sound like it, I am an American and I love America but let’s face it, the Detroit auto makers are struggling for a reason. For my money I’m gonna have to choose the only car that will still be in drevable condition at 100,000 miles….Genesis Coupe FTW!!!!!!

THA CAMARO NO DOUBT IT WILL OUT PERFORM EACH AND EVERYONE OF THOSE CARS (426 HP) AND LOOKS GORGEOUS.
THE DODGE RETRO STYLING IS PERFECT BUT WOULD GET LEFT BEHIND GOING AROUND TURNS.
THE STANG I THINK SHOULD HAVE MORE ALL MOTOR POWER INSTEAD OF HAVING TO PUT A SUPERCHARGER ON EVERYTHING JUST TO KEEP UP.
THE HYUNDAI I CANNOT STAND THE FRONT OF OR ANY OF THE LIGHTS I DONT THINK THEY PUT ENOUGH EFFORD IN IT, LOOKS CHEESY… THE FOUR DOOR LOOKS STUNNING BUT THE COUPE JUST NOT A FAN.

OMG this is such a hard decision, there all such great cars. The Genesis Coupe Looks amazing but I dont think it’ll keep up with the V8 power of the other 3, The Challenger looks amazing and has classic Hemi Power but its probably Blandest looking of the 4, The Mustang is an all around good choice, reliable, Fun and has great power but its suspension is pretty outdated compared the the rest save for the Challenger and the New Redesign looks awesome. The Camaro though is probably the best handeling and fastest of the four but I don’t like its looks nearly as much as the rest. All in all its way to hard to just pick one

Alex Vickers

sandiego74
May 6, 2009 at 8:38 pm

After seeing the new 2010 Camaro today in person, and doing a good inspection of it, I’d take it over the rest. The Challenger would be right behind. The new Mustang looks dumb, especially the rear-end. The 2005-2008 ones are great, but not the 2010s. I don’t know much about the Genesis, other than that it can beat a 330i, so I’d take that last.

dodgethiz12
May 6, 2009 at 8:36 pm

hold on a sec. why does that picture of the Genesis look wierd? Take a close look at the elongation of that hood, it totally doesn’t look like this one: http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/0/e/F/1/10_hyundai_genesis_cpe_ny.jpg

But anyway, I’d rather have the CAMARO..I love the design, and unlike many people I also like the interior.

CBRA_MYK
May 6, 2009 at 8:20 pm

mustang hands down…..camaro looks like crap to me, the challenger is waaaay too heavy, if you wanna know what it feels like to drive a challenger go take a ride on a sail boat. the genesis is a nice car from hyundai but its still a hyundai.

daemonrayne
May 6, 2009 at 8:11 pm

i’d go with the 370z, then the stang, then the challenger…

the camaro doesn’t really do anything for me visually, and i’m waiting a little longer for the genesis… hyundai need to prove themselves to me again, i drove a jazz once, never again a hyundai until the genesis proves to be a decent tuners car…

I would like to go with the Chally even though I’m a diehard Mustang fan because the Chally has more retro cues, but it also has extra weight and less horse, so for now I’ll be sticking with the Stang. Gimmie a GT500. How could you say no to 540 horses? For time being, it’s still the most powerful factory pony car ever produced, and skeptics can say what they want about the rear axle, but it will still out handle some IRS systems.

Its a tossup between Camaro and Challenger, i love the looks of the challenger but the performance of the camaro is unmatchable, next would be mustang, and genesis

mustang_lover66
May 6, 2009 at 6:21 pm

As much as I LOVE the Genesis Coupe, Challenger R/T, and ’10 Mustang, I must say, the Camaro is easily the best way to go. How could you say no to 426hp? I’d get mine in yellow with black racing stripes, like BumbleBee :D
So, 1) Camaro
2) Genesis Coupe
3) Challenger R/T
4) Mustang GT

Juggalo13TIB
May 6, 2009 at 5:51 pm

Yea, I kinda figured I might be off a bit on those numbers, It was a quick search on google. The numbers I saw seemed pretty close and that is also why I used the tilde(~) meaning “about”, because I am no where near expert on the subject.

I agree the Gen coupe can not be properly compared to those 3. First off being an import, and more importantly, a Hyundai import. Because as most close minded individuals have imprinted in their head, that once a ‘failure’, always a failure. Also, another huge difference: import is about condensed, tuned power, and “american muscle” is all about bulky power.

Don’t think that I am all about imports just because of this. The first car I learned to drive was a ’97 mustang cobra soft top. I loved that car more then anything. (excluding my current Tib)
Plus my dad owns a SRT8 Charger, its a fukin Beast!

Either way, I am all for the Genesis Coupe!

my vote’s for the Challanger

FordRulesAll
May 6, 2009 at 4:56 pm

I voted purely on my own bias, and taste in style. Mustang won my vote because I think it is the best styled car here, and it won because it is built by the best automanufacturer. I didn’t vote on power ratings/handling/suspension etc.. How many of you have actually driven all of these cars.. I sure haven’t. In my opinion and personal experiences(from seeing all of these in person, and sitting in them) The Challenger is just too tall and fat for me, it doesn’t have that length the old Challlengers had(at least visually). While the proportioning is off the styling is dead on. That’s good and bad. the good news is that they got a good styling the bad news is that it’s not that hard to go back and copy an old design. The Camaro has way to sharp of curves in the front, then the curves get all soft in the back, it barely flows together. And upclose the front of the Camaro doesn’t look to well, I can’t quite describe it, but it just looks bad. And I won’t even say anything about the Genesis because I have absolutely no liking for that. So if you aren’t a die-hard Blue Oval, MOPAR, or Bowtie (and whatever Hyundai is) person. Take your time to vote, look at the cars and see what has the most innovation, heritage, and design.

Camaro. btw, Juggalo13TIB, the Camaro 1SS has either a 426hp V8 with a 6 speed of 400hp with the auto, not the 305hp V6. I will admit that the picture is that of a V6 camaro which you can tell because it doesn’t have the air scoop on the nose

nova_strife
May 6, 2009 at 4:28 pm

Challenger for me please! For me it’s just perfect. It’s big but not too big, it doesn’t handle like a school bus but it ain’t a Lotus either, and the sound of the HEMI just can’t be beat in my opinion.

Clippinblade

nova_strife

Mustang

Juggalo13TIB
May 6, 2009 at 4:21 pm

Ok lets brake it down by stock numbers:

Car: HP: Curb Weight:
Challenger ~375hp ~4041 lbs
Gen coupe ~306hp ~3389 lbs
Camaro ~305hp ~3913 lbs
Mustang ~300hp ~3575 lbs

And WTF is up with people saying the Gen Coupe is a “girl’s car”. Do you not recall the Mustang was originally developed to inspire interest in the female community?

The Challenger has over 70hp then the rest of the cars, though it also has between 100-650+ pounds more it needs to push with those extra ponies.

My choice with these numbers, and physical styling:
Hyundai’s Genesis Coupe 3.8L Track edition.

skiman88
May 6, 2009 at 4:03 pm

well lets put it this way, This is DUMB why is the Genesis even in this ? and if it is gunna be in it why isnt the 370z which is a better car not here as well? but out of the three cars that this should be bewteen I would have to go 1) challenger 2) Camaro only because All i have seen on it is numbers which look awsome by the way 3) Mustang but i would take any of them at anytime

wireracer
May 6, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Anything but the Challenger…Dodge makes low quality cars. Everyone I know that owns a Dodge has had problems with engines, transmissions, rear ends, etc. I would probably take the Camaro with a V6 because it gets roughly the same gas mileage as my Monte Carlo. Then I would throw a pair of massive turbos on so it runs with the V8s.

codylee6969

Camaro by a long shot!

AudiobahnV8SHO
May 6, 2009 at 3:25 pm

I know it won’t win but I say I want a Mustang. The Camaro and Challenger are overweight, the Hyundai Genisis is a girl’s car. Mustang remains the best bang for your buck.

NobiZero
May 6, 2009 at 3:25 pm

1)Camaro. Drop dead gorgeous, and one hell of a bang for the buck.
2)Mustang. For an aged design, even though it’s just been refreshed, not a bad looking car at all, but it’s aged, and it’s engines are a bit lagging behind the Camaro and Challenger, except for the GT500 of course.
3)Challenger. Something I could picture myself just cruising around all day in. Looks like it’d handle like a school bus, but gets my vote for “car I’d drive cross-country in.”
4)Genesis. It only has a V6, and it’s a Hyundai. They’re hit or miss as far as reliability, not saying the others aren’t but still.

MYIROCDAYTONA
May 6, 2009 at 2:59 pm

Southernguy- I wasn’t aware that they weren’t trying to make it look 100% like it, I just figured like Ford and Dodge that was the idea update the past, not create new. Taking that into consideration I still feel it doesn’t meet my expectations of what it was hyped to be. Although I haven’t see one on the streets yet so I will make my decision when that happens.

May 6, 2009 at 2:27 pm

The Camaro for sure.

lejourinator
May 6, 2009 at 2:09 pm

simple…

The genesis it great but hyundai-ish on the interior so it would be a good drifters toy and track car.

The Camaro owns all with proformance but seems like they over-did the styling

The Mustang is a 4.6L joke. Its just a badge now ( like a mini or new beetle)

Thus the only clear choice is the the challenger. Its got styling that traces back to its roots but its not over the top retro futeristic. It’s as if they came out with a facelift rather than a re-creation.

SouthernGuy8503
May 6, 2009 at 1:52 pm

myirocdaytona – the designers wasn’t trying to amke ti look 100% like the 1st gen camaros, its supposed to be a modern look with 1st gen styling in it, it wasn’t supposed to be exactly like the 1st camaro, but if you look at the new camaro it does have stylings from the 1st gen camaros, the front not so much but you can see the resemblance to a 69 camaro, not exactly but there is a resemblance, also look at the side, has a body line going down the middle like a 68 camaro and if you look on the rear quater panal in front of the rear tire you see whats supposed to look kind of like vents just like the 69 camaro did, so it wasn’t supposed to look 100% exactly like a 1st gen camaro, just take a few stylings from 1st gen camaros and i think they did a good job with it
