Are You Into Imports or Domestics?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
When I first joined CarDomain three years ago, everyone told me it was a tuner site. Well, for a tuner site, there sure were a lot of full-sized trucks, Jeeps, Mustangs, Camaros, Mopars, etc. So when we started the blog a few months later, I tried to include a healthy amount of domestic content. And honestly, that’s what people seemed to respond to the most. So are the import folks here just quiet or what? Or have I scared them away? I like imports and domestics, but if I have to chose, I’ll always pick domestic. How about you? Oh, and I decided not to include an option for “both.” Take a stand, people!

I love all kinds of cars. I don’t see why people are so stereotypical between imports, domestics, and exotics. When properly maintained and taken care of, ANY car will last a while. When properly hooked up, ANY car can be fast and handle well. I guess really it should boil down to how a car looks and how it performs out of the box.

well your domestics aren’t australian, so the only really aussie cars are some of the fords (australian designed) the holdens (also known as the pontiac G8 and current GTO’s etc.) and smaller brands such as Redback, Elfin and Bolwell

no option for both is going to have 12 inch prius wheels and a monster truck on the same highway. that quibbling babble is done about what to choose…and I have chosen summit racing to hack my 87 subaru. Put that together in a vote and see what happens next…

Toyotagoose, I am thinking they mean where they originated from. You’re trying to be a little to technical here. If you’re into Toyotas you are obviously into imports. I like Fords so I like domestic. Problem is you compare say a Ford Fusion with a Toyota Camry, the Camry will about bore you to death just looking at it or in it. At least the Fusion isn’t boring as hell. Imports today aren’t NEARLY as good as they were 10-15 years ago, and domestics aren’t nearly as bad as they were 10-15 years ago. Its like they did a flip flop.

cardomain has a huge reputation for being a “ricer site” filled with riced out civics…
i don’t see it, as the blog is mostly domestic stuff. LOL.
i voted import because all the cars i have are imports.

i voted domestic of course, im a chevy guy but i’d take a ford or dodge over an import any day, but for the people saying nothing is domestic anymore, thats true but you can say “american based automaker” for a domestic since america is where the company started and they centralize here in america, so they’re still considered domestic just not the same definition i guess lol

I’m a GM guy myself, my first car is GM, and my next car will probably be GM. So many brands, so many cars to choose from, and similar parts for cars that share frames makes it that much easier to keep my car “GM” like they say on the stickers

I drive a domestic and voted domestic but i like Japanese imports too not so much EURO trash with high repair costs and horrible retaining pottential when it comes to the value of the car not to mention reliability and you cant argue that its just a fact read a newspaper or a magazine like Car&Driver or anyother periodical that studies the reliability of consumer products like Consumer Reports.

I prefer domestics for myself, but occasionally I’ll see an import that I can appreciate. I’ve seen a few interesting older VW Beetles recently, and there’s a car I’m not even sure I can fit in–I knew a guy in college who had one and when I sat in the passenger seat my knees were against the dash.

No such thing as “domestic” and “import” anymore…both are built by so many different spots…everything is “import” now…just pick the best car for your needs
I’d love to say go with domestic as a choice, but i’ll buy a car from the company that keeps jobs in america…regardless of big 3 or rice burner…if gm wants to keep closing down plants in favor of canadian or mexican plants…then they won’t get my money…id buy from one that opens a plant here in america…

Well, unless you count my Aveo. It’s a Chevy, but it was built in Korea by Daewoo, so does that count as an import? If so, what about all the cars and trucks built in Mexico and Canada for the big three? Are those imports too? Lol, I probably just started a debate. I’ll check back later to see how many people argue over that.

Lol, before I read the description I was thinking, dang, there needs to be a choice for people like me that admire both. Then I read it. Since I had to choose I went with domestics. I have to admit, as much as I love a good Supra, or nicely done Civic, there is just no replacement for a good old fashioned muscle car!! Like I said, I admire and respect both, but go look at my ride page… it’s full of American cars and trucks. My only import is my Isuzu pickup that I haven’t created a page for yet. I need to do that one day…

Domestic, cradle to the grave.
