on a rat rod its cool, but them are really old cars. over time they became like that. that bmw is not old enough to have a lot of rust on it to start with. also the hot rodders back in the day didn’t have a lot of money, but i am sure this bmw has plenty of cash dumped into it. the bimmer would be nice with a nice shiny paintjob tho.

I know this style has a long history, but that doesn’t necessarily mean everyone automatically has to like it. I myself am not into the whole rust scene, yeah it might be “original”, but you couldn’t touch the car without getting covered in rust. And how do you get bird crap off of it? I mean do they still wash it if the point if for it to look like a pile of junk? IDK Not my style.

Hahaha. Go figure, a JDM Acura douche raggin’ on a Euro trend, yet I’ve seen a whole lot of Honda boys cruisin around with hoods rusted. So, as you are entitled to your opinion, I wont completely chastise you for it. But however, by saying it has “0% pussy appeal”, you’re just being an idiot, because I’m not sure how much you know about cars, but Rat Rods score quite the crowds of females, and a modern Rat Rod is not much different, trust me, I’ve seen it. Now they might not be the 30 y/o Asians in plaid pencil skirts that are trying to be 18 y/o school girls that you JDM boys are used to, but the turn out of females is still quite excellent. Maybe we should not be so quick to judge…

Suits these old Hot Rods..i`ve seen a couple where old car bodies are taken and converted in Hot Rods,without painting them or doing anything to the body surface,but then they still look better than this rust bucket..no wayz!..the rims make it look better,but other than that it looks like a car from the scrap yard..is good enough for the Oval track where everybody bumps into one another…

I know what the whole purpose has to be. They can’t afford soap!! Just let it rust, and never wash it! As the owner of what I like to call a ratrod surfer van, I don’t even get it. Mine has suede paint and bamboo and stuff, but I still like to keep it clean and rust free. BTW, if my van does get rust, I’ll fix it and cover it with more satin black!

I just canNOT force myself to like nor respect this new form of car modification. To what real benefit does this offer ANYONE? It’s the complete OPPOSITE of functional, it has 0% pussy-appeal, and to the untrained eye it just looks like a junkyard runaway.

I’m all about pushing the limits and daring to find the next big thing…but this is like a special ed kid discovering his tongue…again…good for you little buddy, but it ain’t nothin’ special to the rest of us.

I hope for the respect of the tuner world this trend dies out like the chameleon paints, lambo doors and underbody neons before it’s time. Hopefully that time comes before the rust eats these things whole.

Gee….Based on the previous articles (especialy the Rusty Hoods) It seems that this is a new catagory in mods. The Rusty Hoods showed what looked like flawless paint on some of the rides ‘cept for the hood. I scratching my head still, but if thats a new trend then….what the Hell? Why not? Get a good rust pattern going then lock it in with a laquer. Or not….
What ever, this looks intentional. Even that old Plymouth they pulled out of the *time Capsule* didn’t have this much rust on it.

1. rust alters system grounds. Dark places once flowing peacefully, can attract lightning and kill you.
2. Couldn’t they just make the rockers as thick as a bridge then let the rust shine there? There is an element of earth that makes it trustworthy pleasant not to bother anything.
3. pretending the car is as durable as an 80s subaru with rust unearned causes carpocalypses.

the origonal rat rods as the street rod crowd called them were the owners best effort on small budgets. they had rust due to age not because it was cool. they wanted a classic hot rod not a rust bucket. now that they are main stream and rich guys are spending a forutne having a rod shop make their six figure cars look like they were built in a shed by a young guy or gal learning as they go on a tight budget there seams to be a growing number of people that think any rusty pile is cool. rust is the enemy of anyone that is a real gear head. removing every trace of paint so your car will rust is just stupid. when the fad is over all you will have is a pile of useless parts. the origonal old school hot rodders that started this fad by accident are making their cars better every chance they get. the black primer fad was the next evolution for their cars and many of them are now painted.
