By Ryan Porter

Have you checked out this week’s showoff of the week?  Rob blogged about one of S_Kartuzoff’s other Ladas this weekend. But there is literally so much craziness that I don’t know where to start.  What’s your take on this crazy ride?

Ford Cleveland Engine Plant 1 Goes Live (Again)

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

It’s official! Ford’s Cleveland Engine Plant 1 is making engines again. The plant, home of the famed Cleveland engine series, was tapped to build the 3.5l EcoBoost V6. The EcoBoost is the first direct-injection twin turbo engine to be produced in the US, and Cleveland is the first plant to build EcoBoost engines. Ford has big plans for the engine—it will eventually show up in nearly every platform. When I was a kid, I knew this plant as Brookpark Engine, and had more than a few relatives who worked there.

Nismo: Renting Tuning Parts!?

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

In Japan, Nismo just announced an aftermarket ECU upgrade for the R35 GT-R. The ECU offers increased performance and an increased top speed while being fully authorized by Nissan to retain the factory waranty.

Where it gets interesting is that Nismo will not sell the ECU, they only rent it! To customers in Japan, they would pay Nismo approx $3000 USD to rent the ECU for 2 years after which point they need to return it to Nismo.

I’m sure Nissan has something to do with this madness of renting tuning parts with no option to own. I just find the topic really interesting and absurd! Found at our friend Kris’s blog

Mopar’s Winged Wonders

Mopar’s Winged Wonders

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

While it seems perfectly normal for a collector car magazine to feature the Daytona and Superbird nowadays, it must have seemed a little jarring to readers to crack open Special-Interest Autos #45, May-June 1978, and find an article by Richard Langworth discussing eight- and nine-year-old cars. It’d be akin to putting a 2000 model year vehicle in HCC. Yet a club had already formed (the Daytona and Superbird Owners Association), and all of the people involved in producing and racing the cars were still alive and available for Langworth to interview, thus an article that un-self-consciously looked at a relatively late model car as a collectible. Daytona Coupe Le Mans Edition

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

Ok, I’ve found destiny, I am LOVING this car. As some of you know I built up a FFR Cobra roadster, but I’d sell that, and my soul in a heartbeat for one of these. Exotic Auto Restoration in SoCal have taken a Superformance Coupe and modified it to produce a limited run of very special Daytona Coupes. Superformance cars are authorized by the man himself Carroll Shelby as ‘legit’ replicas (an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one), so a Superformance Coupe is as close as you’re going to get to owning a Daytona coupe for less than a few million dollars. What Was Your First Car Show Like?

By Austin Knight

Gotadime

Not too long ago, I participated in a car show for the first time. It was a great overall experience and I even got to meet up with my CarDomain buddy Robb. They ran out of participation ribbons, but Robb was nice enough to give his up for me. Yes, a small gesture, but something that I’ll never forget (it’s proudly displayed on my wall). I’ll never forget how beautiful the day was, I’ll never forget the stunning ’70 Boss Mustang that showed up, and I’ll never forget the high that I got from finally participating in a show. So, what was your first car show like?

What Cars Do You Own in 1/64 Scale?

By Steve Neill

Steve Neill

I’m always taken by Rob’s 1/64 Hot Wheel’s posts, which are always surprising, and it’s always nice to see someone collect the cars, even after their youth. If you had or have a prized collection of 1/64 cars, what are they? What are your top ten favorite 1/64 cars? I have a full collection of Nissan Skylines, as shown here. Missing from the picture is my KPGC10, My 1984 Nissan LMP Skyline Turbo C, My 1985 Nissan LMP Skyline Turbo C, and my 1984 Skyline R31 GTS-R. In total, all these cars cost me a heck of a pretty penny, but I invested in them because I love the cars, and owned an R32 GT-R.

Do you have your car in 1/64? Do you have your dream cars in 1/64? And what brands are your favorite? Are you a simple Matchbox/Hot Wheels fan, or do you prefer the ultra detailed Kyosho, or Tomica Limited models? Let us know!
